Maintainers Weekly Chat: September 19 - September 25
It's fall in the Boston area when all of a sudden the streets are filled with young students wearing college sweatshirts. It's invigorating. I do hope all those agile minds are thinking of solutions to the world's problems.
We're expecting thundershowers for the next couple of days due to two separate fronts hitting each other in our area. I hope we get some decent rain from it rather than just enough to get our clean cars dirty.
The cruise we're taking in May starts out in Athens and goes to many Greek isles except the one I really want to visit--Santorini. I hope I won't be disappointed. But we're meeting up with a couple from Boston whom we met on our last cruise. Just going with them will make the vacation great as they are really nice, funny people.
My son left yesterday for his senior year in college. It'll be interesting to see what he does after graduation. He's never held a job so I hope that doesn't hinder him in getting one. He is very good at following instruction, has all A's in college (except for one B+) and has had perfect attendance since middle school. That alone should help him.
That does sound like a great start to your day, Dagmar.
And, I agree, Bill. The fate of much of our future lies in the hands of the youth. Sometimes that discourages me, and other times I am encouraged.
Allison-- what is ds' major? I'm sure he will find employment. Has he ever worked for your company?
Overall a nice weekend for me. I challenged myself and did 4 bikram yoga classes between Saturday and Sunday. I was wiped out last night. My weight was down yesterday morning 1.5 pounds from the day before, but up a little today as I went out to a decadent lunch with my friend after we did our second class.
Dh comes home Wednesday. Hooray!!! It will be nice not to have the weekends to myself. We have plans this weekend and next weekend that I'm looking forward to. We have a very talented young teacher at my school that has a band. His band is having an album release party this weekend at a winery and we are going to go to that. Next weekend, I signed us up for a cooking school. It looks fun and I've been looking at it for months (told dh at Christmas it was his present but we were waiting for a class we wanted to take and a time he'd be home). It's Tuscany themed this night and we'll be making fresh pasta amongst other yummy stuff.
I started a journal yesterday. Hopefully I keep it up.... I already track my calories with fitbit and I have a planner, but I wasn't doing anything to track feelings, etc. I'm hoping it will be somewhat of a gratitude journal-- just to jot my thoughts of what I have to be thankful for, positive self-talk, etc.

Computer science. And he is on our company payroll and has done little odd jobs for us here and there but no real employment. I've told him to be sure to use the University's counseling and placement assistance at every turn.
Had their Moroccan salad with chickpeas, quinoa, almonds, red peppers, etc. and it was really tasty and super fresh. They supply the dressing and it was just the right amount. I tend to avoid buying premade salads at the deli bar because they are always really heavy on dressing and/or oil.
I have two more jars of salad - Greek and Cobb - and will serve them tomorrow and Thursday. I hope that we can continue to order from them twice a month and so increase our veggie consumption at dinner.
Could you manage washing a lettuce and having it on the table as veg with whatever you're eating? Or having it as a snack? When we have particularly nice veg or fruit I wash it and put it on the kitchen table on a big plate. No dressing or anything. People have some as they pass through and they're gone in no time.

I have fruit that can be peeled out in a bowl in the dining room and I snack from that all the time. Never thought of putting veg out as DH wants it washed before every use and stored in the fridge otherwise. He's quite phobic about e coli, pesticide, etc. on produce. And pet hair!
I might try putting some veggies that are whole - cherry tomatoes, baby carrots, etc. - out in a bowl during TV time. Those can be put away, taken back out and rinsed several times. Thanks!
Dagmar, heaven knows how I did this as Pets are a key part of this thread but I forgot about the animals. Your plan sounds doable, though. Celery sticks? Bag of watercress instead of crisps/chips?
