Default Clothes

Megwini asked about a picture regarding gothic clothing in the "Do you EVER feel thin" thread, but I didn't want to derail said thread with this, so I'm opening a new one here, and, uhm, let's say you can all use it to show off your new clothes, or the ones you like the most, or whatever? (Feel free to move it or stick it to another thread if it's not appropriate, though.)

In other words, show-off time for everyone!

So here goes my picture with that 'gothic-lolita' dress. Actually it's far from being the most hardcore thing in that particular style, but I wanted to try something close to it once in my life, before I start looking too old for that kind of things. Nor can you wear it in everyday life, although I've been dared yesterday to wear it at the uni on Tuesday, and silly as I am, I'm very very tempted to do it.

If anyone's interested, the brand is Phaze. I had to take a UK size 12 (I think it's like a US 8/10?), but it's quite comfy, in spite of the two whalebones on the sides. Basically I didn't dare to order one size down because of the boobies; in hindsight, I wonder if it was a good choice. Oh well.

*just happened to see your thread* ...

this is AWESOME Kery! I would LOVE to be in something like that!! Do you think you should have gotten a 10 because of the boobies? I think it's quite perfect on you!

Yeah, somehow, now that I see my profile in it, it kind of looks like there's more than enough room in there. But then, perhaps a size 10 would have been too small in other parts, so I went with the safe option here.

Thank you. ^^

To think that it took me almost 30 years to realize how interesting clothing matters could be, though... Grmble.

Kery, you are just the cutest little thing! And you look so tiny and pulled together.

I've been doing way too much shopping lately but hey, it's economic stimulus, plus when have we ever had sales like this before?? My big change this year is branching out into color and especially colors I'm not used to wearing, like green, an orange sherbet-y color, coral or even yellow. It's gotten so I wouldn't even look at black, which of course used to be my wardrobe staple because we all know that black is slimming. I have all my jackets arranged by color in my closet (compulsive, no?) and it's a rainbow in there now.

Clothes are definitely one of the things that keep me on track. Often, if I'm tempted by something off-plan, all I have to do is think about my cute little clothes that won't fit if I gain weight and somehow ... the food isn't quite so tempting!

Definitely NOT tempting at all, especially if there are no "fat clothes" left to fall back on.

A lot of my clothes is still black, though, but then I like the gothic style, so it's probably normal. Besides, it's one of the colors I wear best (I'm just one of those people who wear 'cold' colors way better than 'warm' ones; I look crappy in warm yellow, orange and the likes).

And yeah, it's, uhm, economic stimulus. To help the economy go through the crisis. And all that. And who needs justification, anyway.

Truth be told, having no clothes in a bigger size is another great appetite killer when temptation arises. After my knee replacements, I started putting on a few pounds and my 4s were getting really tight. But there weren't any 6s to size up into and I have always vowed that I would never, ever buy bigger pants. So I didn't have any choice but to get on the ball and fit into what I had in my closet.

I think it's a huge mistake to keep bigger clothes around "just in case". IMO, it's giving yourself permission to get bigger, without even noticing.

Kery, black is definitely your color!

Kery, that is too cute! Did you know that the gothic lolita style originated with MEN in Japanese rock bands? Like this guy (yes, that is a guy). I never wore the clothes myself, but I love J-rock and have a lot of albums from the bands that dressed like that. I always wanted to dress like them but didn't have the guts.

Ohh, isn't that Mana from Malice Mizer? I used to listen to them when I first went to uni, a few years ago. ^^

And, uh, no bigger pants for me either. That's also the reason why I don't buy pants or even skirts with elastic waists, at least if I can avoid it. It took me several attempts to realize it, but all in all, it's way easier to cut evil at its root...

First, Kery, you are adorable in the dress. I think you could have taken the 10 and worn it delightfully however, the 12 looks great also!

I have been trying to get out of my habit of bigger sizes for "comfort" factor. The comfort is really psychological. "What if I am really bloated from a binge the night before... will it be ok???" Those thought are getting extinguished, slowly but surely.

Now I think about my bangs framing my face- do I want a bloaty face? NO and I think about my awesome clothes, don't I want to look good? YES

Just say YES to supporting world economy

On the topic of shopping..... I am going a little CRAZY in the shopping arena. Really, I have had to put a hold on all things shop. As an overweight person I did not really feel worthy of nice things (silly, yes I know) but that's due to many childhood programming influences which I have been working on.

Those sales are unbelievable and my closet has been filled with the cutest stuff and now I must stop. I just want to get one pair of closed toe sandals and then I will stop. Really. Well, maybe not.

Ah, I didn't even think about being bloated or whatever (I suppose it's a good thing, then). But I had asked for the dress's measurements and compared to mine, and they were close by about a half-centimeter or so. That's why I didn't dare to try a smaller size.

I too used to feel "not worthy" of nice clothes. It's probably a stupid feeling. But you can't help it, can you?

Oh yes, here are some of the things I bought in the past three months or so. My bank account has beenn weeping. I swear, eBay is eeeevil.

And it's not over yet, but I'll have to upload the pictures later.

I also want to change a couple of things on the black dress with the blue ribbon. First I'm going to use a red ribbon instead (that blue one is too bright to my liking), and also sew it a little differently: the way it was originally sewed, it made the chest area tighter, while the rest fit perfectly, and it'd be too bad too leave it that way.

I had a pair of shoes just like those. I loved them! Where are they now? That was about 3 moves and 11 years ago.
The tops and skirts look too cute (in a very good way ) and the skull shirt is awesome. I would wear all of those things. Good thing I can't shop in your closet so easily! As to the ribbon, I wore a shirt that color the other day and a friend took a moment to recognize me. I said, did my bangs throw you off and she resonded, "that and you don't usually wear bright colors."

Can you say wallflower be gone????

Have fun girl!

Kery, yes, that is Mana! Somehow I never thought that on a weight loss website I'd find anyone who'd ever even heard of Malice Mizer. (At least, anyone not in Japan.)
