Thanks for the welcome back. and I'm working hard now on getting off these last few pounds.
Alinnell, I will NOT gain it all back either! Besides, if I do I will have nothing to wear!
Now, that would not be a pretty site!
Thanks everyone about my good news with DH and DS.
Meg, when I am faced with a plate that has an overabundance of food just looking at it makes me feel overwhelmed and tired. It's really strange, but I eat better with a smaller amount on my plate. I also tend to just order an appetizer sometimes instead of an entree. I always wish the girls or DH would share an entree with me, but they want the full meal.
Yeah, I am maintaining my weight right now even without exercise, but I'm not sure that the extra effort just to breathe isn't burning some extra calories. I'd rather be breathing good and working out hard at the gym!
Allison, I had never heard of the "scat mat". Sounds great, but I'd need one for every piece of furniture in my house, LOL. My dogs are spoiled and it's more a chore to scoot them over so the humans get a place to sit down (or lie down in the beds). LOL.
I'm so very excited to have my son coming home soon! I miss him terribly and feel like our family won't be complete again until he's home. Did everyone see the story about the mom who took her kids with her to the Army base when she was facing being deployed? Well, if they try to deploy my son again, I'm gonna cling to him and say he can't go cause he has no one to take care of his mama. LOL.
Happy Birthday, Dagmar. Your chosen celebrations sound great! (And as for the computer solitaire, I'm with you in the addiction....)
We had another foot of snow yesterday/overnight. That's on top of the 10" or so we had last weekend. Looks just like mid-winter again, or it would if not for the fact that we have daylight again! And today is gloriously so very pretty.
I have a weekend at home coming up. I have lots to get done as I'll be gone the next weekend, and then DH leaves again later that week, and me again the next week. We're each taking 2 weeks, but he leaves a week earlier, then we have a week together, then I'll be a week longer. We're visiting family so this lets each of us have time alone with some family/friends, and a week together visiting others. Plus we end up only having a housesitter for the time we're both gone.
Welcome back Freda. No need to feel bad, we all have ups and downs.... It's called life.
Dagmar - Happy day!!! And hi five on the weight number!
Freda - welcome back! No worries about posting here with some weight gain, you just keep on talking!
Lily - I've learned I eat better with a smaller amount on my plate, too... DH never wants to share anything either, so I have to be careful when we go out. I have asked them for a box right away to box up half at the beginning. Felt crazy but did the job! I'm so glad Shane will be home soon!
Ward - I want a dog, too... I've been running at a park in Kennesaw with a dog park, so I see people out with theirs several times a week now and it makes me want one even more!
Kery - I haven't read TFL yet, but the comment you made about the masters trying a few times before success make sense. This is the fourth time in the last ten years that I have made an effort to lose weight and this time I was much more serious, and educated, about it.
Michele - mammogram and tattoo in the same day, wow! I almost think the mammogram would hurt worse - my last one was not pleasant, shall we say... Good luck with both!
Lori - glad you are having fun at the Y! It will start to show in the scale soon, I'm sure.
My date night relocated last night from Longhorn to mexican food, which started out with seafood and grilled veggies, ended up with cheese dip & churros. I hadn't eaten much during the day so don't think I came out too bad... Still kept my calorie average for the week in line, but the day went a little high... Planning the run I missed yesterday for this afternoon, so I'm okay for now.
Have a good weekend everyone!

What a day.....
had my mammogram and got my tattoo.
The tattoo went much better than the mammogram. I was having a follow up mammogram after the last one I had 6 months ago was suspicious. After the one 6 months ago, I had a repeat mammogram and then a biopsy. Today's mammogram showed changes so after having two mammograms and an ultrasound the doctor recommended another biopsy. He is almost certain the spots are benign but he couldn't be sure. I am not worried about it but not happy that I'll have to schedule another biopsy, take more time from work, deal with the recovery and have another scar. Oh well. Could be much worse I know.
Just got back from getting my first tattoo. I *think* I love it. I'll have to take and post pictures soon. I have to get used to it. Dh has to get used to it but I do think it is very pretty (3 intertwined hearts) and I like the location (back/shoulder).
I have to be careful at the gym (no sweaty equipment). I think I'm going to stick with the elliptical/treadmill and classes for awhile.
Dd came home from college today. Hooray!!
I saw that there is a "Run Like a Girl" marathon in San Francisco this fall. You have to get into a lottery and then 20,000 people are randomly chosen to run. If you finish you get a TIFFANY necklace!! I'm going to get dh to go with me (men can run too). I've only done a 5K before so I'm going to sign up for the 1/2 marathon instead of the full.
Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! Happy Birthday Dagmar! I'm celebrating my bday tomorrow with my family (mine was Tuesday).
Shannon -- Yes, probably part of it is that we're more educated, and don't fall into the classical pit traps of dieting (like not exercising while paying attention to what we eat). Although oddly enough, things have never been as easy for me as now that I have openly decided "I'm not on a diet". A combo of psychological pep-talk and awareness of what I eat, maybe.
I'm an almost maintainer, but I was lurking this afternoon and saw the post about the "run like a girl" marathon:

I've been debating registering for this.... still thinking... if I do get in, can I afford to travel to San Fran in October? I do have some friends there I could probably crash with... I'd love love LOVE to try for the marathon but like Michele I've only done 5Ks before so maybe that would be pushing it.
Iris-- the way I look at it is I have time to train. And you only have to complete it in 6.5 hours. If I do the 1/2 marathon, I could basically walk it (not that I plan to, but I could certainly jog/walk it). I registered with dh today-- I hope we get in! We live near SF but were thinking we would probably stay in a hotel overnight if we get to do it and make a weekend of it!
Michele and Iris - in 2007 I joined a Team in Training (Leukemia & Lymphoma Foundaion) to do a half marathon. I started in probably late Jan or early Feb for a race at the end of June. I did the 13.? miles in just over 4 hours- walking 99% of the way My knees do not like any kind of impact any more. I was certainly in the last 25% of finishers of the 1/2, but since there were still full marathoners still finishing, it didn't seem like it. It's an awesome experience - I say go for it!
I'm waiting for my new desk to be delivered. My house once again is in turmoil. Hopefully I can get it all moved back before Monday, and at least before I leave for my conference on Thurs. My DH can't stand clutter - and that's what our basement is!
EETA - hmmm, I changed browsers and I had to sign in again - I see I used my old login - 37 posts instead of over 3,000
