  • We motor down the cove off Atlantic City on Saturday because the wind was 'on the nose' - the only direction you can't sail in. The waves were high enough to make our guests and cat seasick. I even felt 'not right' when I each time I went down below. I think my new medicine has something to do with that feeling. Normally, I don't get queasy.

Only 2 other boats from the club made it down for the raft up. But we had a great time. There was a ton of food and lots of Margeritas. I've moved my ticket back up to 110 lbs to account for all that I ate and drank over the weekend. Lots of 'bad' stuff like fried chicken, fried coconut shrimp, Buffalo wings, potato chips, lemon merange pie, 3 portions of extra fatty rib-eye steak, vegetables cooked in way too much oil, 2 big corn muffins.

The sail back on Sunday was smooth with no waves. It was hot enough that I wore my two piece and got a bit of a burn on my belly. Probably the last tanning opportunity of the season.

This afternoon, I go to the lawyer to discuss the situation with the private disability insurance. Then tomorrow, I go to my psychiatrist for a med check. I'm going to ask her to increase my new medicine again because I've been having visions again at night and some of them have been scary even though I know they're not really there. It's amazing to me what the brain can do and how various medicine have been found to counteract the issues.

DH finally got his medical insurance information and it said his start date was July 1st instead of September 1st, so we might get reinbursed for his emergency visit to the hospital for his broken collarbone and ribs. That's doubly good because they can't say 'pre-existing illness' when he gets surgery to put the plate in.

He says it no longer hurts him that much (however, he has a very high tolerance for pain). He likens it to having a pebble in his shoe - a real annoyance. Plus, it limits him from doing almost everything. He did get to steer the sailboat this weekend which made him happy.
  • Carolyn, great news about your husband's insurance! Glad to hear he's not in too much pain. I hope you get your meds straightened out so that you don't have those side effects anymore.

Allison, 1 package of ramen makes me gain 5 lbs of water weight! Besides the lack of nutrition and high fat, the sodium alone is terrible.

Lily, I eat my pb off a spoon if it's not on an apple, banana, or bread. Or off my finger. Maybe that's why I don't let myself buy it anymore! I don't know the rules of SB, but like someone suggested, could you just wait until your next phase to eat it? Could you eat whole nuts instead?

Rabbit, the biking sounds great! I've been thinking of biking to work. What do you do with your stuff? Carry a pack?

Anne, that show looks really interesting. I don't get Discovery Health channel...I wonder if BF gets it on his satellite channels. I will have to check.

Pat, glad you had fun on your trip. No matter how many times I try to fix the Java and change settings on my browser, I can't get pictures from 3fc threads...but they sound nice.

Lisa, I think you can cut yourself a little slack that you have a few more pounds to go. You did just have a baby! They will come off.
  • Yes, a pack of those Ramen noodles would shoot my weight right UP. But, I don't even like them so they are no temptation for me. Just wish the girls' wouldn't eat them. But, hate to harp at them about it either.

My son just stopped by for a visit. I made lunch for him although I had already eaten my lunch. He is enjoying being out on his own again and seemed very happy. I helped him pack up all his military stuff to take with him. He has Drill this coming weekend.

For now, I'm eating my PB right off the spoon. I don't mind the celery with the Laughing Cow Cheese, I just don't like it with PB. I haven't tried it in the ricotta, like the book suggest, that just doesn't even sound good to me. I have 8 more days of induction and then I'm gonna add a daily apple. I love apples with PB. Megan, I can't wait 8 more days to eat PB. LOL

Carolyn, I hope your attorney can help you with your Disability claim. I had a really good attorney that helped settle mine. Also, good news about your DH's insurance.

Anne, I saw that show advertised last night on TV. I plan to watch it. Just last night I added more channels back on my satelllite. Found I couldn't stand not having TLC and Comedy Central. LOL
  • Ah, Kim, the "roughing it" was beer in a coffee cup, not the Black Butte. You'll notice that there was also a wine bottle, and I was also using a coffee cup....

I like pb on apples, and also on toast - whoops, guess that's not SB friendly. I've been baking my own bread again rather than pay $4+ a loaf for it in the store. DH can't digest a lot of whole wheat stuff, so I make white for him, and ww for me. As long as I don't cut into it when it's just out of the oven, I do pretty well with controll ing the amount I eat. And I know there's no weird stuff in it.
  • I've just been pigging out today and I dont even know why. Just a food fest. Sigh. Binge eating rears its ugly head.
  • I have signed up for my very first 10K walk for this weekend. DH, Lacy and Shelbey are walking too. It's a fundraiser for breast cancer research. I am actually looking forward to it.

I just finished my treadmill and I'm sipping my water now. Feel great about my staying on plan.

Pat, I love PB on bread or apples and plan to eat it with fruit when I'm done with induction. 8 more days and counting. LOL.

Tonite, my 18 yr old SD asked me why there were no onions in the green beans this time. I explained that I'm now on SBD. She said "OMG, Why? You are already deathly skinny". LOL, that is quite an exaggeration , but it's good to know our kids don't think I'm fat anymore. She had gained 15 lbs. at Coast Guard boot camp and her arm and shoulder muscles are bigger than DH's now. She is actually embarassed at how beefed up she is. (Not at all fat, just super muscular) and she was in awesome shape to begin with. She made SuperRecruit and even beat out all the men at men's push-ups. LOL.

ennay, sorry you had a bad day. Happens to all of us sometimes. Sleep it off and start fresh tomorrow morning. One day didn't make us fat. hugs.
  • Quote: I've just been pigging out today and I dont even know why. Just a food fest. Sigh. Binge eating rears its ugly head.
PMS? Over-tired? My two biggest culprits.

Lily, the 10K walk sounds exciting. Looking forward to hearing about it.

  • Hi everyone,

Just checking in after a long day of classes...I had 4, started at 10:50am and my last class ended at 7:15pm but I did have a 3 hour break in between so that was good. Tomorrow is work and only 1 class - gotta love Wednesdays! Food has been decent, don't know what happened a few days but ended up eating a whole 8 serving bag of Garden of Eatin' Mini Yellow Rounds (aka bite-size tortilla chips). Salty snacks truly get the best of me sometimes. I've actually bought the 100 calorie packs of pretzels and those are working fabulously for me.

Tomorrow after work and class I have a waxing scheduled at Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa. They don't use strip wax there (ie They don't spread wax, apply strip, and YANK) They just spread wax, wait a few seconds for it to harden, and peel it off. Still a bit painful but definitely not as much as the yanking. Despite the pain, being in the spa atmosphere is really relaxing. They give me a comfy robe and slippers!

Susan, have fun in (at?) Frankenmuth! What is it by the way?

Kery, hope all goes well for your grandmother. I love grandma's...I find them soo funny, wise and adorable.

Robin, congratulations on having a healthy BMI!!! What a nice treat after an on plan weekend. Your zucchini ribbons sound really interesting. I've never heard of it before. Was it crunchy or more on the tender side?

Anne, what type of massage are you getting? I've always wondered about those hot stone ones but I haven't heard any reviews about them. I hope you have an awesome anniversary 5K!

Lily, you must feel great being on track again. Keep it up! I can't blame you for disliking celery. How about a PB smoothie? Usually you add banana, but if you omit it, the ingredients are peanut butter, milk/yogurt, and ice. I can't say I've ever tried it but if you gotta have the PB, you gotta have it! WTG on signing up for the 10K.

Kim, your week doesn't sound boring at all. There's not many people who can say they're truly happy with their lives. That's really wonderful! It's the simple things in life that bring the greatest joy.

    Rabbit, hope you're feeling better.

Allison, WTG! Keep up the good work - you have great dedication.

Jessica, I hope you have a wonderful birthday! Savor that (moderate sized) piece of ice cream cake! Wow, less than 4 weeks from the wedding...enjoy every minute of it!

Megan, congrats on being OP for 2 weeks! At 25, don't your regular car insurance rates go down too?

Lisa, 17 lbs down - that's progress! How's your bundle of joy?

    Pat, those pictures are gorgeous!

Anne, thanks for sharing that about that show. It looks like it will be really fascinating. I'll have to TIVO it being that it seems to last for hours each night. But more knowledge = more power

Ennay, I've been there too. Just forgive yourself and move on. We're only human.

Carolyn, that's fantastic about your husband's insurance. Hope everything goes smoothly with the lawyer and psychiatrist.

Hello Pam, Meg, Gary, and everyone else!!!
  • Is it really only Wednesday? It's rainy and I'm at the computer all day. I have a feeling this is going to really feel like a 'hump' day. I'm definitely coercing my co-worker to go for a walk at lunchtime when there's a break in the weather.

I went to a theater meeting at 7:00 Monday night, following a full day of work, double weights and cardio workout at the gym, and no time to go home. Having planned for this I had packed a healthy dinnner. I hadn't seen a lot of these people since the spring, and three people came in separately and said, "Oh, there's Megan with her dinner!" or even worse "I don't think I've ever seen you without food!". Since I go to the gym right after work I don't waste the gas to drive home & back before meetings, so I plan ahead and bring food. The comments made me a little self-conscious about eating in front of people (I don't think I do it in a rude way, or when I'm supposed to be doing something else)...but I certainly don't want to feel I need to hide it when I eat. I haven't felt self-conscious about my eating habits in a while, though - I've grown pretty immune to comments. I don't like the feeling.

Sweet Amor, enjoy your spa day! I don't know if my car insurance has gone down...I'll have to check.

Ennay, I'm with Anne here - PMS and over-tired are also my two biggest munching culprits. Have you gotten enough sleep?

Lily, the 10k sounds fun (and for a good cause!). Glad to hear you're feeling so good about your plan.

Pat, is the ww bread you make of the 'fluffy' type? I've tried a few different recipes, but they end up too dense (texturally and calorically) for my lunch sandwiches - I'm not willing to give up 200 calories for bread at lunch, even if it's ww. Could you share about your recipe?

Robin, oops, I missed it yesterday. Congrats on having a 'healthy' BMI! Great job!!!

Hi everyone else. Here's to getting over the hump. (That's coffee in my cup.)
  • Megan: I notice a lot of digs about my eating habits, too. Things like, "the old Kim was more fun because she didn't make us feel guilty about what we eat," or, "there's Kim with her salad and chicken again." I've learned to pretty much ignore them. I figure that's better than giving into the temptation to fire back some retort about french fries.

There's a heavier woman in my office, "Jane," whose husband just had a heart attack scare. She showed up for lunch yesterday with much healthier food than normal. There's nothing like the fear of death to motivate change.

At any rate, someone else asked Jane where her normal lunch was, and why she was eating so little. The question was well meaning, but I could tell it made Jane uncomfortable. I wanted to say, hey, back off and let Jane do her thing, but I knew this would just draw more attention to Jane. Still, I wish some people would think before opening their mouths.

On a much more positive note: it's sunny, I've already been to the gym, and I feel refreshed and motivated. And, it's Wednesday already! What's not to like about that?

    Have a *fantastic* day, everyone!

    Kim
  • enough sleep? what is that? and I dont get a period, but I still get PMS I think...I just dont know when. The problem is I am at a point in training where I can eat a lot and I have been eating crap and getting away with it and its starting to trigger bad food habits and cravings.

lily - I always ate onions...I dont think they are a problem for sbd. They are a moderate GI vegetable, but so low in calories that you would have to eat a pot of onions to have a blood sugar reaction. I dont remember onions even being off the list....I think they were maybe an "in moderation"
  • Kim, I think people do feel some remorse about what they eat, and feel more justified if everybody eats the same garbage as them, hence the comments. Personally, I let the french fry comments fly; clearly they opened the door to the conversation and are not taking my comments into account.

Megan, hope you get a break in the rain so you can walk. Keep taking your food too! You should be proud of yourself.

Gary, I generally get a deep tissue/sports massage, which are actually not all that fun. Nothing like having someone squeeze the more sore knots in your muscles! Ouch. But it does wonders for keeping things loose and moving. Someday I'll have a hot stone massage. In the winter. On vacation.

I had an awesome run this morning, and will be sending everyone happy vibes. Hope you catch them.

    Anne
  • Ah, ennay! You are 2 weeks out from your marathon yes? That explains it completely.

    Anne
  • hi maintainers,

Ennay - tiredness, feeling uneasy with myself, hormones acting up ...these are my main reaons for overeating. And i did it again yesterday. I'm up 3 pounds, and although I know this cannot be true, i still hate this!

Biked to work and back again today, but no weightlifting. I'll go to the gym tomorrow, when DD has a dance class, and work the machines again. It is a definitely a challendge to get the excercises into the routine!

Megan - I have back carrier bags on the bike, and I only take my purse and some lunch, so this works out for me

Hi to all the other maintainers,
    Have a great day all,
    Rabbit
  • Hi everyone, I slept in til 10AM and now I'm having my coffee. After cleaning up a mess where our lab. pup tore up a whole role of toilet paper. My hallway and living room looked like it had snowed. The girls are supposed to put her outside when they leave for school but they forgot.

Our weather is supposed to be low 70's on Saturday , so a beautiful day forecasted for my first 10K walk. I guess I should take a water bottle along.

Megan, ignore those people. I sometimes have people comment about how often I eat and say I eat weird food combinations. But, I don't eat a very large amount at a time, so I do need snacks often. People really should mind their own business. Even DH comments about me taking food in the car when we're on trips, but I do it cause I know he'll head for the nearest McDonald's when he gets hungry.

kaw, you're right, the fear of death is what prompted me to lose this weight. The fear of becoming deathly sick again is what prompts me to try my best at keeping the wt. off. Even 5 extra lbs. scares me straight every time.

ennay, onions aren't on my induction list. I probably can have them in Phase 2. I normally do put onions in quite a few things. This week, I've been putting garlic powder in everything to add flavor .

sweet Amor, hope you enjoy a slower day today.

Anne, I'll post and let everyone know how my 10K goes. I eventually want to map out a 6 mile walk around our country home area and have me and the girls start walking it once a week. I know that at least Shelbey would walk with me, even if Lacy found an excuse not to.

Rabbitt, sorry you are having a rough time. Hope you are feeling more in control soon. Being overtired and stressed always wreaks havoc on my weight too.
