Default Does anyone know how quickly you lose muscle strength and definition??

I am posting this in the maintenance section rather than the WL section because I just feel that section is too advanced for me.
I have been WL since April and am thrilled with the muscle and ab definition I am seeing.
But I have to have a tooth pulled next week and I have been told that I am not allowed to exercise for 3 or 4 days/
Probably I'm hoping that won't make too much difference but when I hurt my shoulder and had to stop UBW for 10 days it was like my muscles were vanishing before my eyes.
And does it get any better when you are like Meg and have strong and well established muscles? I'm wondering if then you can get away with a longer time before you lose your strength and definition?

No worries! You won't lose a thing in 3 or 4 days. Good luck!

Meg you posted so fast --while I was editing my post. I'm hoping you can look at it again and respond to the last part.
thanks,
Katie

Whoops!

I don't know the answer to your mature muscle question, though it's an interesting one. I do know that I've had lay-offs due to surgery over the pasts five years and it's all come back quickly (except after the rotator cuff). It's surprising to me that I can be out of the gym for three or four weeks and come back with no loss of strength.

But I really don't think you'll see or feel any difference at all not exercising for the brief of a time that you'll be off with your tooth. Many people routinely skip three or four days between workouts. Just take it easy, don't drink too many milkshakes, and you'll be back before you know it.

Thanks Meg!!!
Nope definitely not planning to do much of the milkshake thing though I did buy some skim milk and breyers double churn light, as I did not want to get fast food milkshakes.
But I'll be sipping and counting cals for sure --no going back to those unconscious old ways of eating.
Normally I eat no sugar except for a fruit tart on my treat day.
I'm a bit concerned that my body is not going to be happy with so much sugar --its just not used to it.
I find it very reassuring that you Meg can come back to the gym after 3 or 4 weeks without loss of strength.
I think I lost before because my muscles are pretty new-born!!! LOL!!

Dryers/Edies makes a sugar free slow churned. Though I think it's sweetened with Splenda, which I don't care for - but then I don't care much for ice cream.

I don't care much for ice cream either Pat--never eat it-- that's why this is a challenge for me, as they want you to have someting cold after the surgery.
And I sure don't care for artificial stuff like Splenda.
