Weight Loss Equivalents

  • I was struggling mightily with a 31 pound pail of kitty litter today (we have five cats!) when I realized that I've lost pretty close to FOUR of those pails of kitty litter (122 pounds)! Yikes! My knees hurt when I carry one pail up the stairs and I honestly don't think I could carry four at once. However did I do it?

Somehow associating the pounds I've lost with objects made it all more ... real. So do any of you think about how much weight you've lost in terms of everyday objects? And if you do, could you carry that object around with you today?

I'm so glad that I don't have to spend the rest of my life weighted down by four pails of kitty litter!!
  • It is amazing. At one WW's meeting I was at we were all asked to bring in food donations for Christmas hampers that were equivelent in weight to how much we had lost. We couldn't believe how much came in.
  • Denise, what an awesome idea!
  • Hehe this is a fun post! I have almost lost my first pail of kitty litter LOL.
  • Mary, you've also lost almost six bags of flour. Can you imagine walking around all day with a backpack on that had six flour sacks in it? Aren't you glad you took it off?

Or how about 116 sticks of butter? Pure fat!! Line those suckers up on the floor and see how far they'd stretch!
  • I have lost the weight of my daughter (she's 33lbs). Thanks to strength training I can cart her aroung for awhile (she holds on so she's easier than the kitty litter). But still she is BIG. Perspective indeed.
  • I like to pick up a pair of 20-pound weights at the gym and just walk around with one in each hand, resting on my hips, for awhile--to remember what it was like. No wonder I couldn't do a lot!

  • Great thread! When I'm unwrapping a pound of ground turkey or beef, I think to myself "I've lost 50 of these." That's a lot of flesh.
