I graduated in 1977, but I must say that most people didn't dress the way they did in the catalogues thank goodness. Jeans, t-shirts, and flannels, were the going thing in our area. But every one is wearing flare legs now just like the 70's. Just think 30 years from now all the young-uns will be making fun of today's fashions. I have to say that it is fun to look back and laugh.

Yeah, my mom always had the JCPenney and Sears catalogs. I used to look at them a lot, and there was always lots of stuff the looked as stupid then as it does now. But the blog was still a funny read.

I still had yellow and purple cords in my closet....flared and belled of course

This is true, but honestly, has any decade even come close to the distinction the 70s holds for crazy fashion? When a movie from the 70s comes on, how many miliseconds does it take the average person to figure out the time period???

I say that EVERY time I go shopping. I think the girls in the super low rise jeans and super tight "baby tees" that draw attention to everyone's thong or plumber crack and oozing out muffin top is one of the most ridiculous looks EVER...the only option besides your crack/muffin top hanging out are teh tops that look like maternity wear. It's either one extreme right now...or the other.

What is with the trend of guys wearing jeans 3 sizes too big, and belting them just UNDER their butts. For some reason, that trend started when I was in high school in the early 90's...and WON'T GO AWAY-it's 2008! You would figure the gangsta look would have evolved a bit by now....

Well, I had bell bottoms when I was in about second grade that were purple velvet with a fringy belt. I thought it was the coolest pair of pants EVER.

But I would have done anything for this short rise flare craze back in the 80's. I'm short waisted and the high rise chic jeans or those two-tone denim jeans with the high rise and tight ankles with the angled flap on the beltline...they used to go right to my bra. Talk about an unflattering style! EVERYONE had a big butt in those pants!!

Low rise jeans would have been much more flattering on me then. But they are ONLY flattering on skinny girls (which I was in the 80's)...these girls that Aphil describes are so annoying to see. I see it all over. My daughter only wears the maternity shaped tops because I refuse to let her go to school with her belly button highlighted under a too-tight t-shirt and she only is allowed to get the jeans that are not high rise, but not low rise, either. When we try on clothes, her big test is to sit on the floor and get back up. If I see crack, the pants go back on the rack. Hey! That rhymed!

EXACTLY what I was thinking! Personally, I'd rather have the looks of the seventies back than these we deal with today!!!!!!! .

I can't tell you how hard it is to find a decent blouse to wear thats not designed to plunge down to reveal my cleavage! .

techwife-THAT is why I buy most of my daughter's clothes at Gymboree. (She is 10.) It is more expensive than a lot of clothing stores...so I usually check their clearance about once a month, or go when they send me coupons. Their clothes are cute and stylish, but they are made for KIDS...instead of making little 8 and 10 year old girls look like they are 21 year old hookers. I figure she is 10 years old, and doesn't need belly shirts, mini skirts with Uggs, or red lacy panties just yet.

I figure my 20 yr. old don't need to either, at least not in front of me. This may make me a "bad mother" but, one thing I do like about my 15 year old being a Big "Ol" girl is that she doesn't dress like a State Street Hooker. Thank you Lord. I can deal with the Hot Topic all black, chains and Tshirts much better.

That would make a good halloween outfit! Hubby and I can go as nerds! I was about 15 in 77 and I was a jean & tee person also. I wore flaired hip huggers & concert t-shirts. That was "my thang!"
