Talking And unto us, a Chinese bone

Several years ago, when I was teaching English, one of my students told this story in class.

She and her husband were part of a chorus in their city (here in Calif). She said that they were practicing some of the Christmas carols. Their son, 3, was walking around trying to sing the songs they sang. So, "And unto us a child is born" morphed into "And unto us, a Chinese bone". He may have heard it that way because they are Japanese.

I do remember my own children singing "While shepherds washed their socks at night".

Any others you want to add to this?

My cousin sang "O rolly night"--he thought it was a Christmas Carol about pill bugs! He was so funny!

I saw this thread and got a great laugh - thank you!

When I was little, my parents had this old, scratchy record of Andy Williams singing "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year." There's a line in there that goes:

There'll be parties for hosting, marshmallows for toasting
And caroling out in the snow.

And I used to think they were singing:

There'll be parties for hosting, marshmallows for toasting
And Carolyn out in the snow.

And I used to think to myself... "Poor Carolyn! Why is she out in the snow while everyone else is having a good time eating toasted marshmallows at the parties? She must be cold! Why don't they let her join in?"

I overheard a kid singing "do you hear what I see" one year...

totally not related to Christmas carols but there used to be this car salesman who did commercials for "Cal Worthington and his dog spot" only his dog would always be like a monkey or giraffe or something strange. Well the song would go "go see Cal, go see Cal, go see Cal" at the end and I always thought they were saying "kitty cow, kitty cow kitty cow" and I always wondered how they could have a cat-cow for a pet. Confusing! *LOL* i was grown before i knew what the heck they were talking about.

Check out the website: http://www.kissthisguy.com. It's a whole site devoted to misheard song lyrics. Hysterical.
