LA Weight Loss #33

Hey everyone! Thought we needed a new thread!

Jibbelle-congrats on the loss! Hey thats 10 pounds!

I didnt get to weigh in today..busy busy day! Bad Bad day as well. That is far as I want to go, but anyway! Tomorrow will be better! I also was told no fat free things..only low fat b/c of the sugar. Good question!

Karen- I am so glad that you are back! I am sorry you have been sick! We missed ya!

Here's to a better tomorrow!!

Marcie

Jibbelle 08-22-2001 10:27 PM

The book I have for the program says that fat free salad dressing is a free food. My center recommends fat free salad dressing and fat free plain yogurt. The only thing they mentioned not getting fat free was cheese....and I think that was for the sodium. Hmm....I will have to talk to them about this.

SasseMom 08-22-2001 11:36 PM

HI!!!

Hello everyone!!!! Good to see the new thread, the last one was getting kind of long! :)

Jibbelle,

Congratulations!!!! Isn't it nice to see that scale go down? BTW, my husband was online when you IM'd me earlier, so it wasn't ME that ignored you!!! SORRY!!! :s:

I'm down another pound!!! WHOOO HOOOO :D So now I'm at 209. I just can't wait to get under 200, that will be such a milestone. I just want to say, you ladies have been such an inspiration to me. It means so much to share your stories, and successes! And recipes!!!! :)

Congratulations to everyone who saw the scale go down today!!! We are awesome!!!! :)

Ladies,

Sounding GOOD... keep on dropping! Keep up the good work!

I had one of those long days... but, I did get to weigh... went down one! I was so proud! Crazy, but, I got more excited over that one than the others. Think that I was just glad that maybe it will continue to drop.... I HOPE!

I saw a different rep... disscussed the supplements... still unclear if I may have been experienceing a side effect or allergic reaction... but, other than just feeling stressed... I have felt much better... my throat has not bothered me... I left off all supplements... she didn't offer much advice... may try them again one by one :?:

Forgot to ask about FREE cool whip, duh?

Jibbelle, I, too am puzzled about the salad dressing... fat free or lite :?: I may be mistaken, but I believe that at the center... they said lite, because of lower sodium. However, my book says fat free... the red plan card says: non-fat plain yogurt, lite or reduced fat cheeses, (DO NOT USE FAT FREE CHEESES; THE SODIUM IS TOO HIGH), as per card. I'd like to know for sure, if any of you could ask. I am so confused!

This counselor told me to get all of my fruits in before 4 pm & to stick to the unlimited choices... she may have fell out of her chair, had I remembered to ask about the Cool Whip
I truly forgot... too long a day.

Sue gave me some good support on IM a short while ago... I really appreciate it! Thanks Sue! It is so nice not to have to travel this road alone. Going to try to stay on plan while away from home and office... tomorrow.... it just makes it a little more challenging.

May you all have an OP Thursday! God Bless!

Hi everyone, I weigh in today so I will ask about the Fat Free Dressing again. I was also told I could have Yoplait, light yogurt for the milk also. I will let you all know tonight what I was told and what I do.

Jibbelle 08-23-2001 07:55 AM

SasseMom-

No problem with the husband thing...I figured you busy or the like.
Congrats on the loss!

Nancy-

Congrats on being down to you too!

Spring-

Good luck on your weigh in today! May the force be with you.:dizzy:

I am off today and tomorrow! I am so excited. I have so many errands to run it wont seem like much of a vacation though. It is good to be busy, it will keep me out of the refrigerator. Going to make French toast for breakfast...with cooked cinnamon apples on top. Sounds oh so yummy!!!

diamondgeog 08-23-2001 12:58 PM

Fat free salad dressing

I do not know much about some of the fat free creamy dressings but I have found a number of delicious natural fat free dressings.

The first one I tried was seasoned Japanese rice vinegar. It does not tast acidic and its very light and healthy. I have recently tried a Paula's oil free dressing the Lemon Dill that was fantastic. The entire content is natural and from the label it looks really healthy. I do love blue cheese dressing and ranch but these other dressings are very tasty and so healthy. I have found, for me, that the fat free creamy dressings bomb, you just can not make a fat free ranch or blue cheese taste right, IMHO. However these other dressings do a 180. They just try and be tasty and it turns out they don't have to be made with fat at all to do it.

I have made the transition from creamy to these new dressings for say 6 out of 7 salads. I really do enjoy them and I still do regular ranch or blue cheese once in awhile. I am not missing out on anything and I am saving a lot of calories and not sacrificing taste this way.

marciew 08-23-2001 02:43 PM

Hey everyone!!

How's your day? Mine is okay..had apple and jello for breakfast and then a Subway sandwhich for lunch. Getting ready to have watermelon and carrot sticks.
I am gonna go and weigh in tomorrow. Great job to everyone who lost! Hopefully I will be down a pound. That would make me happy..or 2 would make me exstatic! I am going to visit my parents this weekend at the lake. I am a little nervous about it b/c they have lots of junk food! I know there will be lots of beer, chips, fried chicken, etc.... Anyway..hopefully I will stay on track. I'll ask my mom to get some fruit for me.

Well can't wait to hear the weigh ins today! How's everyone doing with their water??? I just got started with my first 32 oz.

Marcie

Jibbelle 08-23-2001 04:53 PM

All is well here today so far. Menu:

Breakfast--egg, toast, plum
midmorning--nulight
lunch--half turkey sandwich, lettuce salad with ff dressing
afternoon snack--peach and yogurt
dinner--my once a week lean pocket!! (woohoo, I love those things) steamed broccoli and zuchinni, a peach or plum
dessert--nulight

As far as water goes...I have not been keeping track today. I have been drinking it off and on all day though. I have no clue how much though. Bad MarcieB.

I am starting graduate school tonight! Everyone wish me luck. Between work and school I may be too busy to eat!!!

I moved my gym membership to a place closer to my new house this afternoon...and worked out! Now that it isnt so far to go, hopefully I can make it at least 3 times a week. It makes me feel so much better. Will also make me more hungry. Good thing I am on the red plan!

I weigh in Saturday.

Keep up the great work everyone.
Take care,

SpringManor 08-23-2001 06:44 PM

Hi everyone....I weighed in today and stayed exactly the same.
Thats okay, at least I did not gain.

About the ff Dressing. I was told that not to use Fat Free Dressing. Too much sodium. My counsler said she can't believe any other LA are promoting using them. Anyway she told me to keep using the Lite. So I will. Also, can have the Yoplait Yogurt, lite. in place of milk. I had a long talk with her. She is very good and has been doing this for a long time. She didn't just walk off the street.

Well, that is it for me. I will lose now and I weigh in again on Monday. I am going to start going 2 times a week. I am sooooo
determined now to get the rest of this off.

marciew 08-23-2001 08:04 PM

Lorrie~ Hey! Like you said at least you didn't gain. I am gonna go and weigh in tomorrow. I would have liked to lose at least 1 pound. Anyway..keep up the good work!

dietingrme 08-23-2001 09:33 PM

Hello everyone,

Jibbelle, Good Luck with school! Sounds like you are going to be a busy "little" bee.

Marciew, Watermelon & carrot sticks... what a combination? what state did u say u were from? :D Is it good? I hope that you find that you have shed some of those unwanted pounds when you step on those scales tomorrow.

Lorrie, Thank you for asking about the salad dressing! Lite, it is. Hey, as long as that scale didn't go up, you are still in control! Good job... now show those stubborn pounds who is the boss next weigh-in.

Diamondgeog, you are right... some dressings aren't meant to be fat free... The Paula's oil free Lemon Dill sounds tasty... is that a local brand or have I just overlooked it?

I didn't do too much damage today while eating out... I didn't get to select the restuarant... so, I did the best I could... had some baked fish served on rice, which I didn't eat... ate a bite or two of steamed veggies... gave my garlic bread away.... the fish was seasoned with lemon-pepper, which I was told by counselor was high in sodium... I guess that the scales will tell the story tomorrow.

May you all have a nice evening & a wonderful OP day tomorrow!

Nancy

dietingrme 08-23-2001 09:45 PM

oops, me again

Jibbelle,

You mentioned cinnamon apples atop french toast... what a yummy idea! :p

May I ask how you prepare your cinnamon apples?

Nancy

Jibbelle 08-23-2001 11:33 PM

apples

I put my margarine (fat for the day) in a teflon skillet. Added apple slices, a little suger substitute, cinnamon, about a teaspoon of water, put the lid on and let it simmer for a bit until the apples got soft like in apple pie. It is pretty yummy. I think there is a recipe for it in the LA Weightloss Cookbook, but I am not sure.

I just finished my first class for the sememster....it was long and boring as I suspected. I guess this is going to be a LONG sememster!

Good night all!

dietingrme 08-23-2001 11:47 PM

Jibbelle,

That's

Thank you for the Cinnamon Apple recipe that sounds yummy and fits the plan.

Nancy

marciew 08-24-2001 10:58 AM

Nancy~ Congrats on doing so well eating out!! Well, I wouldn't say watermelon and carrots are a great combo, but I needed to get them in. I live in Alabama...I am from Tennessee.

Jibbelle~Sorry to hear the class was boring! Hope you have a great day off!

Well I am going to weigh in today..I'll let y'all know the results!!

Have a great day!!

FF dressings Paula's and others

dietingrme,

I do not know if Paula's is in Texas only. The label says it is made in California, so I would think not. I am sure there are many tasty fat free dressings, the key for me was I started to look beyond the Kraft brands. I happened to find the Paula's in a big supermarket, but if that does not work, health food stores would probably have some.

I did a websearch and found this on a website in New Zealand lol, so they ship there....

Paula’s (USA)
Paula's of California produce a range of tasty No Oil and No Fat dressings which contain no cholesterol , are low in sodium, and contain no artificial ingredients. These high quality products are versatile and unique. Superb on salads, they are more than just dressings and make excellent seasonings for cooked vegetables, as well as elegant marinades for fish, poultry and meats. Paula's also produce quality B.B.Q. marinades as well as a mayonaise and tartare sauce.

And I found this on a garlic lover's website...

Paula's No-Fat Roasted Garlic Dressing contains absolutely no oil, fat or cholesterol and is low in sodium. It is a superb dressing for greens and a delightful complement to seafood, poultry, pasta and fruit salads. Garlic Survival's Garlic Honey Mustard Dressing is not only fat free but also Award Winning! This light dijon dressing is just right to add a little zest to your greens, or use it as a tangy vegetable dip.

I just found out about Paula's myself but the lemon dill is really good and now I want to try some other varities. I did not find a website for Paula's itself but I will look on the bottle when I get home in case it is on the label and I missed it. Worse comes to worse, ask your local grocer to try and find them or do a web search using paula's dressings and you can probably order them online.

diamondgeog 08-24-2001 11:16 AM

found the website...

The Paula's website is www.sweetadelaide.com and they have tollfree numbers, etc.

dietingrme 08-24-2001 01:01 PM

diamongeog,

THANK YOU for going to all that trouble! I will take a look in one of the larger groceries in Pensacola.

marciew, I was only teasing about your combo... you are smart to get your veggies & fruits in... it just sounded like an unusual combination to me. I hope that you are smiling after your weight-in.

jibbelle, thank you so much for mentioning the cinnamon apples & sharing your recipe. (I omitted the margarine... thought that I may need to get it in later) I had them this am & they were so YUMMY! I can't wait to fix them for my grandson... he will love them!

Lorrie & Sue, I just wanted to say hi!

I hope that each of you and your families have a GREAT weekend!

I'd better head for the scales... hope that I am smiling, too!

 Nancy

Jibbelle 08-24-2001 01:54 PM

I was talking to someone at the center who says she makes apple pie!!!

She said she takes melba toast and crumbs them. Mixes in a little melted butter and sweetner. Presses it into a lined muffin tin and puts the cinnamon apples on top and bakes it. She said you can also spinkle more of the melba toast/butter crumbles on top.

I am going to try this soooooon!

Jibbelle 08-24-2001 09:27 PM

I just made something yummy for dinner. I am not sure if you gals have thought of it yet. I sauteed some broccoli and mushrooms in a little bit of pam. When they were cooked I put some cheese on it. Once the cheese melted I put all of it on top of 1/2 a baked potato. It is very yummy. And it doesnt even taste like it is good for you!

I didnt have to use any margarine on the potato since I used my fat earlier today. I did use my dairy though (cheese). I know a lot of you use your dairy for breakfast in your shakes.

I hope everyone is doing well. I have weigh in in the morning. It is 8:21 and I am just now eating dinner, so I have to stay up late. I think we are going to rent Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal. I have not seen the latter yet.

Take care!

dietingrme 08-24-2001 10:37 PM

Hey everyone, I weighed today... I did the same as Lorrie... darn scale was in the same place as Wednesday. I didn't beat myself up over it too bad... but, it's a little early to get stuck... I guess the scales showed the sodium in the lemon-pepper, etc. I'm going to try to work a little harder on my menu planning & planning ahead to be prepared when away from the house. Weekends are a little harder... but, I hoping to stay in control and OP.

Jibbelle, thanks for the apple pie recipe... i may have to try it... the cinnamon apples were just the bomb. My counselor looked at CINNAMON APPLE FRENCH TOAST in my diary & asked what is this? I grinned & told her... she said what a wonderful idea... I told her that I got it from another LA client online... she said that she would have to try it.

Now a stuffed potato.... without even going to Wendy's. Jibbelle comes thru again!

Thanks! Keep them coming.

Nancy

Didn't go up, didn't go down

I weighed in today and I stayed exactly the same. At least the scale didn't go up!!! :)

When I went into the center today I was dressed up. (Had to go to traffic court afterwards) Turned out to be a good thing, because they took my picture for their "wall of fame!" :) :) I'm FAMOUS!!! :dizzy:  It was something else to see the difference in the before and after shots!! 23.5 really makes a lot of difference!!!! It would have been cool to have gone down a little more, but I'm still so happy with my progress.

It sounds as though everyone is doing really good. LOVE the recipes!!! :) Keep em coming!!!

Good Luck to everyone who weighs in tommorow!!! Let's all stay OP, and be the biggest bunch of losers LAWL has ever had!!! :)

Hi everyone,

Well, I stayed on Program Friday. Great, but now the big challenge....the dreaded weekend. It is my hardest. I am going to keep myself busy.

I bookmarked that notebook place. That is really a neat place. Lots of different forms to fill out. Thanks for that tip.

I am also going to try the apple desert thing from Jibelle. It sounds really good.

Good luck this weekend everyone.;)

Jibbelle 08-25-2001 10:04 AM

weigh in

Good morning everyone!

I just had my weigh in. I am down one lb for the week. I guess that isnt too bad, but it isnt as well as I did the first two weeks. I am going to try and hit the gym at least 3 times a week so hopefully that will help too.

I think I have devised a plan for making chicken parmasean. I am going to try it tonight and if it works I will pass on the recipe!

I went to the zoo yesterday with my boyfriend. Whenever we go we always get soft pretzels and cheese. Not this time. But....as we have all heard. That pretzel would not have tasted as good as thin feels!!!

dietingrme 08-25-2001 04:10 PM

Lorrie,

I'm glad that you liked the notebook site! You are going to love Jibbelle's cinnamon apples.

My hubby joined me for breakfast this morning .. guess what we had... I put the syrup on the table & he used it sparingly... he preferred the cinnamon apples. We went to our grandson's football game... while there in the stands, he told me to tell our daughter-in-law what we had had for breakfast... he really liked it... I even served him the diet bread... he recognized the difference... but, said that it wasn't bad. Jibbelle, thanks again for the recipe... keep them coming. It would be so much easier to have those that the whole family loves... it would make it easier to stay OP.

I froze water & took it to the game... my husband & daughter-in-law & son halped me drink it up... but, I grabbed another bottle just as soon as we returned... it's too hot for football! I ate a slice of melba toast, while they ate burgers at the game... I intended to take one of my nu-lite bars & went off & left it... didn't mess up lunch too bad... planning on eating out with friends tonight... I am going to have boiled shrimp. & a sm salad with lite dressing.

Jibbelle, passing up chesse pretzels... GREAT WILLPOWER! sometimes we just get in a routine & you will feel so much better setting a new pattern... KEEP it UP! Good job!

We can do this!

Take care,
Nancy

NEBRNATV2 08-25-2001 09:22 PM

Hi gals,

I thought I would wright and tell you that I am still here and kicking.

Last Thurs we (hubby and I) went to our counseling session and he basically told the gal that he told me that he wanted to move to Fl which he did but he didn't say that either you go or we are through. He never said that. So he once again made me look like the bad guy in all of this. She told me that I need to move on. But it's hard to do that when he is still living at the house at least until we get it sold. What an ******* he is.

Karen M

Jibbelle 08-25-2001 10:26 PM

YUMMY!

Hey all!

I made chicken parmasean from the plan! WOOHOO

OK..here it is

Crush your 2 slices of melba toast and use it to bread the chicken breast. My breast ( ) was a little wet so the crumbs stuck to it nicely. I cooked it in just a dab of canola oil (fat for the day), browning it nicely on both sides.

To make the sauce I peeled and diced a small tomato, chopped a little bit of green pepper, onion and a mushroom. Put it all in a teflon skillet on simmer. I added italian seasonings (oregano, thyme, basil..whatever you like), some fresh garlic, salt and pepper to taste. It got pretty runny, but after simmering about 30 minutes it was a pretty thick consistancy.

I sprayed a baking dish with pam and put in the coated and cooked breast. Put the sauce (more like a thick chutney) on top of the chicken. I added cheese on top for my dairy and baked in the oven for about 30 min at 350. It was really good and very moist! This recipe does however use a lot of your food allowances: protein, starch, veggie, dairy, fat. BUT I think it was worth it and my boyfriend liked it too.

Try it and tell me what you think!

dietingrme 08-26-2001 04:54 PM

Jibbelle,

It sounds yummy! Keep the recipes coming... especially those OP

Karen,

I hope that you are having a better day!

Rough Weekend

Hey everyone! Well I am back from my trip to the lake to see my parents and just as I thought I did bad...although I didn't do nearly as bad as I used to. Instead of eggs and bacon and biscuits I had fruit. That was huge for me. But today was rough..anyway...I am back home and ready to just get back on plan. I feel so yucky when I eat bad!

Karen~ I am so sorry that you are having a rough time..I agree move on! Hang in there and let us know how you are doing!

Jibbell~ Congrats on your loss!! It has to feel good to lose! Also you are so smart to come up with all of these recipes!! Way to go on turning down the pretzel!

Sassemom and Nancy~ You're right at least the scale didn't go up! I bet you will lose the next time!! Keep up the good work!!

Lorrie~ Hope you had a good weekend...I agree that it's the hardest time for me!!

Well back on track tomorrow!! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend...OH! and I forgot to tell you that I didn't get to weigh in on Friday which I am so disapointed about. After packing for the weekend I ran out of time before I had to take my personality test and then we left right afterwards. I will go on Tuesday!!

Goodnight!

dietingrme 08-26-2001 11:00 PM

Marciew,

It sounds like you did some controlling this weekend. Yes, weekends are tough! But, don't give up on yourself. Give yourself some time. Old habits die hard & it sounded to me as if you did make some sacrifices.

Just remember when the going gets tuff... you are not alone. You are on a journey to a "new you".

Feel good about yourself and about what you turned away. We can't complete this journey in one day, or one weekend.

Let's learn to say what we can have ______ instead of that "treat" or that certain food(s) rather than saying I can't have a "treat" or "certain food". They say that it helps not to feel so deprived.

I fudged a little... tried to acknowledge to myself that I was.... did it anyhow... but, I did control my portions... had just a sampling... sometimes they say just 2 or 3 sm bites do the trick. But it's still NOT OP, is it?

What can I say?

Just Be Happy! Remember what you did right... not so much what you did wrong & just strive for more rights & maybe we will get there.

Nancy

marciew 08-27-2001 09:22 AM

Thanks Nancy for the encouragement!! I am back on track today and that is a big thing. I learned before that if you ever get off track for a day or whatever, make sure you jump right back on full force. If not then it turns into a snowball effect and boom you are right back where you started!

Let's have a great week ladies and let's make those scales move down!!!!

Marcie

SpringManor 08-27-2001 09:37 AM

Hi everyone, well I made it thru the weekend and stayed on Program, I am so proud of myself. I even weighed and measured everything. Got all my water in too. Just hope the scales show it tomorrow when I weigh in. Hope everyone else had a good weekend.

SasseMom 08-27-2001 10:00 AM

HI!!

Hi Everyone!!!!! Hope everyone had a great weekend!!!

Marcie, It sounds as though you did a good job this weekend. It is SO hard to stay on plan with family functions and when you are out of the "norm". So good job!!!

I stayed on plan this weekend, but I weighed myself this morning and didn't see any difference. It's hard to tell with my home scale though, because it fluctuates. I thought I had it figured out to five pounds different then the LA scale, but I don't know. I have a hard time trusting it. I'll see today when I go for my weigh in.

Karen, I'm glad you are still with us!! :) I know you are going through a hard time right now. You are in my thoughts and prayers!! Stay strong for YOU!!!!

I'm starting to get a little frusterated. I'm starting to want the junk I've given up. But hubby is keeping me strong. I know this is a journey, and a lifestlye change, but after 5+ weeks on the program I'm starting to get a little frusterated. I keep telling myself I've come so far, and I don't want to backtrack, but it's hard!!!!! I'm very lucky in a lot of ways, because I have a supportive spouse and these boards. I feel accountable!!! :) I know I can do this, and for the first time in my life, I truly believe I can be thin (or at least not fat!!!) AND healthy. My husband does sit ups and push ups every night, and last night I did 20 sit ups!!!! It might not sound like much, but it was HARD, and I felt soooo good afterwards. I've always been heavy, but I used to be in good shape. I'm starting to strech my muscles again. I want to be able to do a split again!!!!! :)

Sue~ Way to go on the situps!! You'll have a flat tummy in no time! I know it is hard when the junk starts tempting you again, but just go to your closet and think about something that fits that didnt fit before. That always gets me going! Keep up the good work! You are doing awesome!

Lorrie~Congrats on a great weekend! Didn't it feel so good to wake up this morning and know how well you did?? I bet you see great results tomorrow at weigh in!

dietingrme 08-27-2001 11:11 AM

Sue, sit-ups & staying on plan... keep it up... that's wonderful! I know what you mean about the home scales... wish that I had some better ones...

I'm dreading going to weigh-in today... hope the scales are going down..

My daughter & I started walking again... it had been way too long... we walked a mile Sat & just short of a mile Sunday... told her that I would like to do it at least 3 times per/wk, but more sure wouldn't hurt.

Lorrie, I'm glad that you had an OP weekend. I am proud that you were in control... That's fantastic... Keep it up! plus, I hope that it is contageous... OP, that is.

Marcie, you are so welcome! I needed to pay heed too... My daughter-in-law made one of my special recipes... that is a family favorite... it is definitely not OP... (I want to try to redo the recipe so that it is... or at least closer to OP) Chicken Tetrazzina... it is so hard not to feel deprived at times & then I don't want to deprive the whole family... anyhow, right or wrong... more wrong than right... I limited myself to 2 T of it.... I called myself using portion control.... felt that if I didn't have any... I would keep eating everything that I could put my hands on.... thus, I had a serving... like, I told them... I didn't eat the entire 9x13 dish....

WHAT are you supposed to do?

I hope that it didn't totally blow everything... I have just got to take control. Suggestions welcome...

So far today... I'm back OP... going to try to stay OP...

Remember your water...

Nancy
