LAWL-Memorial Weekend Challenge

Okay Ladies-

There have been a lot of us struggling with the weekends. I know for me-Saturdays have been especially difficult with cravings and my "notion" that I deserve to indulge myself after an especially long walk. Fitday is cool and all-but when I discover that I burned almost 1000 cals on my walk on saturday-I get it in my head that I DESERVE pizza-and then I think about it and fight it and, usually, give in to the craving that is now bigger than me. It's ridiculous.

So-I'm looking for you ladies that are in the same boat and have been having a hard time on the weekends. Let's keep it a short goal-4 weekend/holiday days POP . . .whaddaya say? Friday through Monday. Maybe if we can fight through 1 weekend (and a difficult one at that) then we can gather momentum to get through more.

brittyboo07 05-23-2006 11:45 AM

Julie I am with you Friday ~ Monday POP????? I think I will start planning now lol.

StargazerJMK 05-23-2006 11:51 AM

Count me in. I'll have a 5 day weekend this week because I'm taking Thrus and Fri. from my vacation days, but I'll go Friday to Monday POP!

CandlePrincess 05-23-2006 11:54 AM

Ok..I am up for a good challenge. Friday, Sat, Sun and Mon POP!

Repo girl 05-23-2006 12:50 PM

Oh, I am so in. We are going camping Friday-Monday. I really do not want to blow it just because we are not going to be home. I really need to plan my menu well, pack my scale and measuring cups, lots of water, and vow to be OP, no matter what.

juliemarie 05-23-2006 12:51 PM

Great! We're getting quite a group together!

Boo'sMom 05-23-2006 12:55 PM

I can do this!! We are only going to be gone part of the weekend--I certainly can't afford to GAIN since my scale hasn't moved in too many weeks to mention. I think my body is VERY content with this number because I fluctuate every morning between 159.2 and 160--for days and weeks now. UGH. Note to self--no more complaining.

PURPLEPIRATE99 05-23-2006 01:01 PM

Oh I'm in on this one as well - I can do it!! - NOt that I will see any scale results, but I can do it!

haylo921 05-23-2006 01:05 PM

I will definatly join up. Sounds like an excellent idea. Friday and sat will be a definate challenge since friday I am going to a rehersal dinner for my cousin and sat. is the wedding but I know what they are serving and it isn't bad (fish, potato, veg). I think friday will be the most difficult since I have no idea what they have selected but it's at a barbeque place so it should be fine.

Biggest challenge for me:........................ limit the bread :o

juliemarie 05-23-2006 01:06 PM

Heehee! Yeah Heather-that's a positive attitude;) But maybe the scale will surprise you-who knows?

ljackson 05-23-2006 05:23 PM

I am in- what do we have to do? Just be good?
We are going to a BBQ on Sunday and out with the family for pizza on Monday-SIL is in town for the weekend and wants good Chicago pizza.
It is supposed to be really nice out all weekend so I hope to get in some extra exercise.
Just tell me what I need to do- I need to be kept accountable

juliemarie 05-23-2006 05:25 PM

ljackson-just follow the plan-no cheats!

sskinney 05-24-2006 09:55 AM

Juliemarie,
you must of been reading my mind. I was just on the phone talking to a friend that is on LAWL now and we were talking about how bad we are on the weekends and what can we do to .... move away from the kitchen... when we are having a craving.

Like you I feel the craving is bigger than me and I always give in even though i will regret doing it. I think my biggest mistakes are I have more starches on the weekend than i do when i am work... at work i have nothing there to fix my craving... i wish there was something that i can do to tell myself i really do not need that.... cracker, ice cream, graham cracker etc.... I do not know why i THINK i need it. UGH!! it is very frustrating.

I will tel you that i will be good and I love this challenge but when i am in the moment and its something i really want and it is right in front of me it is VERY HARD for me not to eat it... but with that said... If I commit to you wonderful ladies that I won't do it... I will get a pc of fruit or gum instead... i feel like i do so good all week and then i take 3 steps backwards on the weekens... i think i am ready to STOP that cycle!!! i only have 6 lbs to goal.... I CAN DO THIS!!!!!!

thanks for all your support ladies... I love coming out here and I know I am not alone on this weighloss journey and that there are others struggling with the same issues as me!!!

sskinney 05-24-2006 09:59 AM

oh and by the way I am In! :-)

ljackson: I know how hard it will be NOT to eat that chicago pizza.. I am a chicago girl... we would of been neighbors... I lived in Woodridge!!! we would go shopping all the time to "Fox Valley" (if its still there) I have been down in NC for almost 20 yrs now... WOW!!!

Repo girl 05-24-2006 10:48 AM

Have you guys tried SF Werthers Originals candy? They are sooooo good. Also, don't forget SF popsicles. They can kill a craving for me in no time.

juliemarie 05-24-2006 11:06 AM

Katie- I rarely crave sweets-I crave salt and fat-pizza, chips, fried chicken-those are the commercials I'm drooling over . . . I haven't really found anything that will kill the craving without sending me over the edge (in other words-don't tell me to eat a 100 cal bag of doritos-I will eat bags of them . . .)- got any words of wisdom?

Repo girl 05-24-2006 11:16 AM

I am a salt craver mainly, too. Sweets kill me at TOM, but other than then, I could knock someone out for a pizza. Chili powder, mortons, and lime juice is really good on watermelon. Sometimes that helps. Also, it is not OP either, but if I am dying for chips, I will eat a few pork rinds. They are salty, crunchy, and do a lot less damage than chips.

mrsbeanie 05-24-2006 11:24 AM

Juliemarie- I am so with you on this one. I love salty crunchy things - pretzels (you should have seen my face when my COD said they were forbidden!), chips (salt & vinegar!), crackers and cheese, etc....I wonder if anyone has a suggestion! LOL

Katie - I love the werthers!!! *note to self* there is a reason you only eat 2 or 3 remember the night you spent in the bathroom after having more! LOL

juliemarie 05-24-2006 11:28 AM

You know-I've never had pork rinds before-the name or look of them just grosses me out. . . . i wish pizza grossed me out;)

Boo, I'll complain with ya. This is where I've been for weeks as well. Sigh. I would love to see it start moving again. Especially since I can't find a reason for it.

I hope this challenge will help.

Repo, have you tried the Skinny Cow products? The Fudge Bars and Ice Cream Sandwiches are not bad. The Fudge Bars are a Starch according to my center. I'm going to ask about the sandwiches and see what they say about those. Once it a while that REALLY hits the spot.

Repo girl 05-24-2006 12:00 PM

I love Skinny Cow, but I hate giving up a starch. I have been eating Popscicle Brand SF fudgescicles. They are a lot smaller than skinny cow, but they are only 40 calories. I count them as a half of a dairy.

Beanie- I am all over salt and vinegar chips. Also, have you tasted the Lays Limon chips? I like to make oven fries and put lime or vinegar and mortons on them.

Sue1968 05-24-2006 12:24 PM

Count me in too! I asked my husband to take 1/2 day Friday so we can celebrate our anniversary during lunch vs. dinner. Only one child vs. 3 with us ... and then I can be POP Sat through the week.

My scale hasnt moved in a month. This week I have been horrible .. and I need to get back into control.

I went to an equipment orientation at my gym Monday night and learned how to use the equipment and they are giving me another comp session with a different personal trainer. The manager said he would even discount the sessions so I can get the most benefit .. I am hoping to fit that into my budget. I just need to find out how to balance the exercise with diet so the scale will move.

So I'm in . .. ..

PURPLEPIRATE99 05-24-2006 03:34 PM

JulieMarie - Just got back over to this thread today - So sorry to have the positive attitude - I just can't help the sarcasm sometimes - I think for now I'm just going to have to totally forget about the scale as long as I'm eating OP - which I have been doing good at!!!

Good luck to everyone for the challenge this weekend - even myself!

juliemarie 05-24-2006 04:19 PM

Heather- I understand the sarcasm-I was just teasing . . .besides, you're doing great! The scale will catch up eventually . . .

PURPLEPIRATE99 05-24-2006 04:23 PM

I know you were kidding - I just wanted to reply - you're too funny -
I probably shouldn't have said that - I'm staying positive just frustrated with the  scale - You're doing great as well!!!

juliemarie 05-24-2006 04:27 PM

Well-I had to clarify . . .I'm getting a reputation around here;) I just bought a new T-shirt (in the Junior plus section) that has that cute little rabbit smiling with it's paws over it's mouth and it says "I'm not mean. You're just a sissy!"

Sadly-folks seem to think it's perfect for me. Then again, so do I. That's why I bought it. Somebody's got to be the *****, right? ;)

Boo'sMom 05-24-2006 04:38 PM

JM--is it a "happy Bunny" he kills me--everything is too true. I had a poster in my classroom that said "it's not that I don't understand, I just don't care"

juliemarie 05-24-2006 04:39 PM

that's the one-

How bout the one "YOU''RE FUNNY-looking"

juliemarie 05-24-2006 04:46 PM

unfortunately the types too small-it says "It's all about me. Deal with it." I think I'll keep it up a couple of days! Unless I can find a better one.

Boo'sMom 05-25-2006 07:58 AM

Lori--I can totally see you being a fan of "Happy Bunny"--

PinkHibiscus 05-25-2006 03:20 PM

Count me in! I am going out of town w/ my parents to Bend OR. I will be sure to pack all my measuring cups and my scale. I will think of all of you doing the same thing this weekend as my encouragement when everyone is eating smores and stuff. lol Hey, Luna makes a smore bar!!

I am wtih u Boo and Stargazer...My scale hasnt moved in a week or so. Its so discouraging....esp when u have been so good and op!!! :(

tweeteach 05-25-2006 08:12 PM

Count me in too.

stacyj 05-25-2006 08:43 PM

I am in too. I have been terrible lately-----just can't get back into the swing of things. hven't "really" gained--I am at 150.something---but not losing either!!
I will be extra good this weekend and go the the COD on Monday!

My problem is liquid fruit and then Wanting to eat!

CandlePrincess 05-25-2006 10:11 PM

speaking of Tshirt slogans...my step father wants the one that says
"Sarcasm, Just another service I offer"

PinkHibiscus 05-30-2006 03:13 PM

So, how did everyone do? I had to much starch and not enough veggies! Jeez...BUT I did do pretty well aside form that, didnt cheat out of control, u know, by eating what my family was eating (doritos, pepsi, oreos) I stuck to my stuff!! lol Just went over a lil! ;)

Great trip tho!! Rode my quad till my thighs hurt! SUCH A BLAST!

haylo921 05-30-2006 03:22 PM

I too had to many startches as usual, but I didn't go over board it was just like one extra on sat.

Gamababa3 05-30-2006 05:02 PM

I was curious how you all did. My COD made the mistake of telling me (in front of my DD as an witness) that don't worry about being on plan on Sat and eat what I want, but get right back on plan on Sun. Well you know that didn't happen there was to many choices still left in the house. Well today's a new day and I'm back on plan today, but will tell her please don't ever tell me that again:)

Boo'sMom 05-30-2006 06:40 PM

Pretty POOP weekend for this chick!! POP today, though
