Joni, Good to see your post! I've been doing WW too and losing about at the same rate I think (I was scale avoidant for months so hard to say for sure). Slow and steady wins the race. Given how little I like to either starve or exercise really, this is probably the best I'm likely to do long term. I do like the flexiblity of WW. I can eat 1200 calories on the weekdays and 1800 calories on the weekend, and I still end up losing. Sure I'd likely see better results without those 1800 calorie days, but it wouldn't be more than a weekend or two before I was lured off, and when I go rouge on the dieting, more than 1800 calories are consumed.
Amy, congrats on the WL, I suspect even with the binging that you are likely just being more aware of what you are eating. Maybe your body is just craving the vitamen D. I've been seeing better results on the scale and feeling better since I started taking the supplements that my doctor prescribed after determining that I was pretty deficient. I've since read several studies that say losing weight is much less likely if you are deficient and that the dairy making people lose weight more readily may be due to the vitamen D. Also I suppose the calcium too can be calming... I guess that might be why we feel so good after we've been on vacation and sitting outside in the sun more often. |
Hi all
I joined a gym finally...and yesterday evening I worked out ...after almost a month. I have been neglecting that part with relocation, graduation ...etc.It is a ladies only center...with lots of group fitness classes. I loved it. I am planning to start with the Zumba class next week...just need to get back my fitness level this week. I am stuck at 124.5- 125 ....like forever. I really need to kick my own butt and lose the last 5 lbs. So...DAY1 take-off today...actually I am not that hungry as I expected to be since my last TO was 5 months ago. Glad everyone doing so good! |
hello all. just a quick hi from me..in between all the chaos! :)
|
MJ - glad you are settling in and getting back in your routine!
Drum Roll Please.... I actually hit my goal! 18 lbs gone (it seemed too traditional to choose 20 - gotta be a rebel!) Let me tell you all when the last time I actually hit a goal I had set.... um, NEVER! Thrilled, happy, woo hoo and all that Cr@p! Edit == just to be clear, that was a mini goal - lots more of them to go.... |
AWESOME JOB KIM!!! i've been setting and achieving the mini goals i set for myself too. it's the way to do it, i think. for my brain anyways! :) so proud of you! awesome to see your ticker like that!!!
|
Kim-thanks for the info and the link about the plan you are having so much success with. You are right...if something works, go for it!!! What's your next mini goal...????
Jillian - when does DH return for good? So proud of how well you've done!! Beautiful day in Georgia...tennis at 1P today, then just a night of R&R. Had a great garage/yard sale this weekend and made $300!! woo hoo. |
thanks Joni! it's been a tough journey, but i'm powering through it and have made it a 100% lifestyle now for me and the fam. :) DH isn't due home until this coming spring-ish (so roughly about 7 more months.) but i never say he's home for "good" because being in the military, there's really no such thing.
have fun with tennis--i love playing it with the kids on the Wii when i have time. |
Afternoon Chickies.
Congrats on the WL Kim. Had a great weekend after a terrible Friday. It was just one thing after another. But thats over and this is going to be a GOOD Week! Just trying to maintain for now. Not being real restrictive, but trying to stay in the neighborhood as I feel better. I can say that I have developed a sharp dislike for steemed broccoli. Can't stand it or the thought of it. Anybody got any I JUST CAN'T DO THAT anymore with food choices, since being on a diet? |
wow..where is everyone? knee deep in halloween candy wrappers? ;) kidding!
|
Jillian, no wrappers here. Down another pound today and was down a pound last week too. So slow trip down the scale. It has been quiet in here.
|
Hi all - I'm around too, but busy with other things. I joined a challenge on the WW site to track my food for one month. I'm usually good with tracking for a few days and then I fall behind. BUT, tracking/journaling/keeping a food log is key for me. To see what I'm eating on paper is eye opening! I need to up my natural foods, fruits, veggies!! I stared at some candy corn in the store tonight, but quickly ran away! I love that stuff and could eat a whole bag!
|
joni--what i do sometimes when i don't have time to get on fitday right away, is i have a piece of paper handy to write down what i just ate and then i put it on fitday later, as long as i'm writing it down somewhere it helps!
|
I bought a Dietminder food journal at Barnes & Noble - for me it is just easier to write it down rather than enter it. The journal also has a section with common foods and their nutritional values - and leaves blanks for adding your own - sometimes on fitday I get fits from trying to find a food! The journal was about $5.
Still doing well - TOM for me, but it seems better than normal. Haven't wanted to tell DH to "STOP TALKING!" which is normally what happens at PMS time. Which is a considerable victory, since he has been pounding the candy corn for about a week - and it hasn't annoyed me one bit. Except for maybe the fact that he still weighs 175. |
Joni, I do the WW only online, but the key to that for me is writting down everything I'm eating. The last few days have not been the best... bonus points slipping away with no activity points to make up for it. My DH does not seem to understand that the chicken teriyaki place or a trip to sweet tomatoes is going to mean going over the points allowance for the day. I guess if there are any vegetables involved he figures it is a good diet food.
Kim, My DH got told by the apparently incompentant people doing a health acessment that he needs to lose weight (they were measuring everyone one inch shorter than they actually are, so of course more people got labelled as having a bad BMI when you subtract height from them). He said he will cut out the peanut butter... which I think he has been eating 1/2-1 cup of that stuff a day since I started doing weight watchers, since he sneaks it after dinner and into his breakfast cereal regularly. I just looked it up and a cup is 1517 calories... no wonder he gained a few pounds in the last little bit. |
Hello Ladies. I have been lurking for a few days, keeping up with everyone. I have not been eating on plan, but thankfully the scale hasn't reflected it. Other than now going down. Imagine that.
Barbara - How does your husband eat PB in his cereal? Thats a new one on me. I like it on ice cream and fruit but hadn't thought of cereal. It is also getting close to TOM for me so trying to make better choices. Its also getting cooler here, which will mean packing on the pounds for winter. LOL Have a good rest of the week all. Make / plan good choices for the weekend. I hope to post a loss by Monday from 148. Wish me POP. |
Amy, He eats it mixed in with instant oatmeal. I'm sure it tastes pretty good. Either that or he has a piece of toast with peanut butter and nutella spread on it, which I have had a bite of that and it is delicious.
|
this is by far my favorite peanut butter, i don't know if you've seen it before, but it's great!

Since I went back to college at night, DH has been living on PBJ's - despite the fact that I have more than enough other things in the house for him to eat (and they are for him - not me, things I can't eat!) Yet he always has PBJ. Last week he made me laugh because he was telling me about something he watched on Nova while I was at school and he said "I realized what my life would be like without you - sitting in from of the TV, watching Nova, eating PBJ". I told him that was a really sweet thing to say and he corrected me and said "No, I meant that it would be AWESOME!" - Geek boy cracks me up, every time.
Barb - OK, I was wondering how he got it into cereal too. All I could picture was him spreading PB on all of his bite sized shredded wheat. Funny thing - I'm not a huge PB fan, but since I started this diet, I have been insanely attracted to it. I think my body is just craving fat. |
Barb - I never thought of putting it in oatmeal. That sounds really good. Now I hope I can never try putting it in oatmeal. LOL
I have to go find that pumpkin pudding recipe. Its been a long time since I made it and it is getting time. The weather here is beautiful. I am thinking about taking off 1/2 day of work just to have some me time. But that will entail going to the grocery store and then cleaning house so not really much me in there. Hope everyone has a great weekend! |
Peanut butter--- Yum! I love the lighter version ( 50% less fat)
One of my all time fav s- Pancake mix( whole wheat preferred), warm peanut butter, banana ...beat ...pour ...flip over....delish!!! |
Hi all -- I fell hard off the wagon over thanksgiving, my birthday and two week-long training sessions. I've gained back 9 pounds, but I'm hoping a lot of that is water/sodium retention and will whoosh away fairly quickly.
|
down another pound this morning. :)
|
Woo hoo Jillian! Kimphin - your hubby sounds like mine. He's a geek and his idea of the 'best day ever' is to sit in his recliner with his laptop doing programming/development type stuff watching SciFi or old movies....ugh...give me the great outdoors any day! Still tracking, but this weekend was just too social and my buddah belly shows it...Time to crack down.

Hey everyone, just got back from Vegas on Saturday. I havent weighed myself but I worked out 4 out of the 6 days I was there. I never work out on vacation so this was great step forward.
My hubby and I woke up every morning, had a coffee, went and worked out for about 40 minutes every morning and then had our breakfast. It was awesome. I did die out the last few days, something to do with me getting home at 2am. Anyways, it was much more fun working out with him rather than by myself. I was feeling a little down before I left since I quit my boot camp on the last session. I was thinking of planning my menu for the whole week just to get myself on track. Its funny how food tastes so different in different cities. I dont eat grapefruit at home because most of it is so bitter and yet when we were in Vegas, I had a grapefruit every day because they were so juicy and sweet. Oh I miss Vegas already, its such a fun place! Okay well I gotta run. Joan |
hello all. CRAZY BANANAS day here today. hope everyone had a good, productive, relaxing weekend. :)
|
Jillian - 1 lb to go...OMG!!! So proud of you!
Vegas sounds like fun....I need to go back..it's been 20 years since I was there. I think my next fun get away will be a cruise in late January 2011... |
Jillian- I would love to be 160, that is my first goal to get to right now.
Joni- You have to go back to Vegas, its so much fun. During the week is so much better than the weekend though. So I am thinking of trying a low carb diet for a couple of weeks but I am a bit nervous. I do think I will miss a potato or an occasional fresh bun sandwich. I am not sure if I can do it or not...hmmm any thoughts of how to get thru a couple of weeks???? Joan |
Joan - I thought I would have major cravings too, but I found out that I felt so much better (puffy,bloaty-wise) that I did not want to have anything. What I would say is if you do decide to go low-carb, make sure you follow whatever plan you decide on very closely, because going through the carb withdrawals over and over again is a sure way to fail. Also, when I started out, before my official "first day", I cut back a little on the bad carbs so the first few days weren't as bad as they could have been.
I didn't get a chance to WI last week, and I want to keep Fridays as my day, so I am just going to post week 6 and 7 on Friday. I had TOM last week, so I don't think it was all that great a # anyway. Still plugging away, though! |
Kim- Did you actually join an IP program at a centre or are you doing it on your own.
Joan |
Hey Kim, I just looked up what the ideal protein diet is...yikes thats a tough one. Do you have to buy a certain supply of products?
Membership fees??? Joan |
Hello Chickies. Glad to see everyone is doing well. Congrats on the WL for those of you who were successful.
For those that fell off the wagon (including me) its a new day. Lets get re-focused. My problem is I get so tired of this diet. But, I will carry on. Not much going on with me with family and work to mention other than both of my boys got jobs this week. So my unemployed college son has a part time job now so that he can pay some bills. |
well, it's OFFICIAL!!! i've lost exactly half of my body weight! actually, i got on the scale today and it said 159.8! yay!! super excited! now on to the next mini goal!
|
TOO TOTALLY COOL!!!!!!!!!!
I am so proud of you - what a great lifestyle change - both physically and mentally. |
Joan - I get my stuff through idealtogo.com - I didn't have a clinic near me. There is no membership fee, I just have to pay for the food. I have found alternative products too- at lindora.com and pureprotein ready to drink shakes at Target. It is possible to follow the diet without the prepackaged foods - Dr. Tran Tien has his book on his website - free. (I think I posted the link last week - look back to see) Even with buying the food, it is about $82 per week, but I am not buying nearly as much food at the grocery store, even including what I buy for DH. We eat normal dinners together - I just don't have the carbs if he happens to.
I don't want to keep sounding like a cheerleader for IP, because this is such a personal thing, but - believe me, I have been on EVERYTHING, and never terribly successful (forget long term- never even that great in the short term) and I have as of this morning (unofficial WI) lost more than I did on LAWL - and I am not struggling at all. I have gone off protocol, and that's a no-no, but I have sucked it up and gotten back on track because I kind of like seeing the sclae go down steadily. |
thanks Kim! i'm proud of you too! if you've found something that works for you, then so be it! :)
and yes, it's definitely been a wonderful physical and mental lifestyle change. i love it. |
Congrats Jillian! What an accomplishment.
Glad you found something that works for you also Kim. We are all individuals with individual needs and not everything works for everyone. Its cooling down here. I'm not lookijg forward to the winter as I tend to pack on the lbs. But going to try to stay focused, but enjoy the Holidays also. Have a good weekend all. Monday we will be starting the November thread. |
