LAWL Friends and Losers Thread July 13th- July 19th

Morning guys!!

JerseyMadchen 07-13-2009 09:41 AM

Morning everyone!

I am proud to say I am hurting!! I did the shred and it works!! AHH!! I was told the first few days are killer, but to keep it up! It's funny, as I was going through it, although it as tough to keep going with no breaks, the exercises were very simple, yet EFFECTIVE!

Well, off to eatsome breakfast, get some sun, and take on day 2!!

Clanori 07-13-2009 10:10 AM

Good morning.Hope everyone is doing well.I have been away for a while.Alotr of emotional stuff going on.It has been tough staying OP with the kids being on Summer break.I have gained 3 pounds and I feel like my stomach is constantly bloated from eating all theses random starches.Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of sugar cravings?I think you can use B-6 or B-12 but I can't remember.I am going to try and get OP today so wish me luck. One step at a time is what I am thinking. On a good note I have been exercising at least 3 times a week varying it between yoga and cardio.I want to start adding some weight lifting in soon to try and tone things up.

Dan2112 07-13-2009 10:52 AM

Hey gang..

busy weekend.. Had some "me time" and took a huge hike with an old friend. While the hike itself was only about 9 miles, it was up the La Luz Trail on the west face of Sandia Peak mountain. Started at about 6500 ft. and ended at 10,000+.

For all the years I've live in ABQ, I'd never tried it.. We certainly didn't break any records as my friend Dave needed to stop every so often to let his pulse slow down, but it was a great time and left me with a big sense of accomplishment.

Yesterday I made low fat, low cal English muffins and they turned out pretty well.. I will post the recipe in the recipe files...

Mama Nicole 07-13-2009 12:53 PM

Hi friends. I am back from camping and I lived to tell about it. I have a love/hate relationship with camping. It rained every day, but not the whole day or night, so it was manageable. One thing I did that was AWESOME was float down the Huzzah and Meremac Rivers on a tube. It was really fun. One run was 4 miles, and one was 1 mile. What fun. Anyway, I am back OP tomorrow. I have had a lurking fear of heart disease lately that is making me want to get healthy, even more that having my clothes fit better.......so I am going to try again.

I hope you all had a good weekend, and I say, lets have a kick a$$ WL week :)
XOXO

JerseyMadchen 07-13-2009 01:46 PM

Hey guys.

I have yet to exercise today. I am still hurting from the Shred yesterday and am dreading doing it again today. UGH.

Now of course I am hungry as I let time get away from me looking up stuff for school, and will try not to binge for lunch. Good thing is there isn't anything "bad" in the house to binge on!

I was going to grill cheddarwurst for dinner tonight, but decided I am having chicken sausage. Something like 100 calories less, and 20g of fat less. Between that and baked doritoes, I will be saving some workout time!!!

emmysmom 07-13-2009 02:37 PM

Happy Monday everyone!!!

Katie - Emily LOVES being a big sister! She even hates when I take the baby to daycare even though Emily's preschool is in the same building. She always says that she loves her baby Sarah soooooo much :-)

Nicole - I'm with you on trying to lose weight now more for the healthy part of it than the fitting in my clothes part.

Amy - I'll have to look for that workout. It sounds great!

Dan - Great job on the hike! That sounds like a lot of fun!

Lori - I don't know about getting rid of sugar cravings, but I'm curious! It is so hard to stay OP when I'm at home with the kids, too.

Okay...back to work. Have a good one!

sweetandspicy 07-13-2009 02:51 PM

Good Monday to you all!!! I am loosing slowly but surely but it is very frustrating sometimes. I know loosing slow is the best way and let me be clear I am happy I am loosing instead of gaining. I just wantes to say it well type it. I have not been exercising as much as I was an not getting in all my water but I am going to do that this week. I went for a walk/jog yesterday so thats one day down. Anyway wish loosing was as easy as gaining...

Amy- great job on the 30 day shred I still have not bought it but I have done Jillians other DVD's and yes I can imagine crying too

Nicole- more power to you for camping with any rain. I am not an outdoor girl at all..

Tina- I love your little girls picture. That is great that your older child is excited about your new baby.

Lori- I read that drinking plenty of water and trying to distract yoruself is the easiest thing to do to help with the sugar cravings. Scientist believe a craving last only 5 minutes so if you distract yourself you will forget about it?? Who knows.

DAn- wow that some hike!!!

Kristinx 07-13-2009 02:58 PM

Amy M, don't be so hard on yourself! You have lost 37 lbs since what? March? So I'm guessing you are averaging just under 10 lbs a month which is incredible! At my fastest I think I lost 6-7 lbs a month and could not keep that pace more than a few months so please be thrilled with your progress!

I am ready to lose some weight now after losing the smokes...I think...lol
I have about 5 months before I really gotta start the wedding dress shopping and I want to lose 40 lbs before that...soooo whether I can pull it off or not that is what I am hoping for!

Hoochie 07-13-2009 03:04 PM

Amy- You are doing fabulous with your exercising. You seem to be so on track. I think that is so awesome!

Lori- I ate healthy all weekend but felt really bloated. I did have a few wine spritzers so I think they were the culprit. I am going to blame the soda water...

Nicole- I enjoy camping but when it's raining, I have a hard time enjoying it. It sounds like you still had a pretty good time.

Hey did anyone buy the supplements when they started with LAWL? If you did, do you think they helped you thru food cravings or were they just vitamin supplements?

So I am leaving for Vegas Saturday instead of Monday. I am going for four days. I have to behave all week and definitely drink all my water. I realy want to do some shopping and with the heat there, my whole body will probably swell up.....
I still can't wait for a week away from the office....
We are taking our teenagers there. I hope we find enough to do without spending an arm and a leg. I want to spend one night having fun in the casino with my DH. Any of you ever been there and have some advice?

Okay gotta run,

Joan

Mama Nicole 07-13-2009 03:10 PM

Wow, Katie....sounds like you had quite an adventurous weekend. My DH has to put up with my famiy all the time, so I always smile when you mention your weekends with the kids, DH, and your sisters :) I consider myself pretty lucky cuz my DH actually likes my family :) Was the tire blow out scary? I worry about that, as we travel via car quite a bit.

Hooray for Kristen......still smoke free :)

Tina......so good to have you back. I am so happy for you that you were able to work things out with your Dad. Finding out someone you love is sick really is a reality check, isn't it? Congrats on your new comittment to taking better care of yourself :)

Barbara.........how did the hypnosis go? We are all on the edge of our seats, waiting to hear about it :)

Amy......I love NOT camping......but my kids and DH LOVE it....so I have learned to appreciate the fun in it. It really was a whole lot nicer this time, as I had no babies with me. That is a first in about 20 years :)

Ok, I have to go lie down........I have a touch of the stomach flu today, and it is kicking my butt. I will check in later, and you will see a lot of me in the next few weeks, as I will need all the inspiration and encouragement as possible as I begin, once again, to take care of me :)
XOXO

BarbaraB 07-13-2009 04:39 PM

Nicole, First meeting with hypno lady is tomorrow. Then Thursday there is a group meeting and then another individual meeting after the conference thingie. So I'm a bit wondering how it will go myself.

Joan, I bought the supplements. There was more than vitamens in them though. Some of them had St. John's Wort, which is a known mood enhancer and also some things rather close to diet pills in others. They kept reformulating them though. I found them helpful.

I always found doing a TO knocked out sugar cravings when I spiraled out of control on starches. Of course just threatening myself with a TO is also an effective technique too. HA!

Joan, I've taken teens to Las Vegas before (only girls though). Lots of shopping that the girls loved, also they enjoyed the pool area a great deal, and also we had a good time all together seeing some shows. We went to a place which I think was called tickets tonight or something like that and they had highly discounted show tickets for many different places (not all shows could be purchased through them). We got some very reasonably priced Celine Dion tickets and the girls enjoyed that the most I think. However that was a bit of a splurge. Lost Wages is very hard on the wallet, as it seems that there are tons of cool things to do that all cost money, so just be sure your kids understand that before they get there. Oh and there are some pretty scary roller coasters and things that teens also love. We spent some money on that too. I actually did that terrifying big shot where you are 110 stories up and they shoot you up another couple of stories and then let you free fall down in the harness... and you see nothing below your feet but air... I screamed like the little girl I am inside that is for sure.

chiquita623 07-13-2009 05:15 PM

Good Afternoon Everyone. Just wanted to hop on real quick before I leave for the day. Was on vacation last week. Had 10 grandkids one day, 4 for the next 3 and 2 for the remainder of the week. There is a reason that we have kids when we are young!! Didn't eat the best and didn't exercise like I wanted to but figured I'd do better this week. I tried to be mindful of what I was putting in my mouth but I had my slip ups too.

Anyway, I'll check back in tomorrow after I've caught up a little more at work. Have a good night all.

Oh, how I love Vegas. Can I come too? It is gonna be really hot! Be sure to get off of the strip and go to Freemont street one night. The light show is amazing, and the "old style" casinos are fun. There are usually street vendors and live bands on the street on Freemont street, too. The Tropicana has a free bird show a couple of times a day that is fun, also the pirate fight at the Pirates of the Caribean. Shop at the Venetian. They have this amazing indoor shopping that feels like shopping outdoors in Venice, complete with Gondola rides. Also, the Paris has great shopping and food. There is a little authentic pastry shop there that is to DIE for. I could go on and on! Have fun!

Thank Goddess for me, my DH likes my family too. The blowout happened at a very good time for us, actually. We were still coming off of the mountain, and so we were going slow and the windows were down. One of the tires on the drivers side of our 5th wheel made this big hissing sound, so we pulled over. There was a huge hole in the side of it. We had it changed and were back on the road in just a few minutes. We were really lucky that it happened where and when it did, and that we had a good spare. The only crappy part is that I have to figure out how to buy a new tire in the next couple of weeks, and that is going to be expensive. My DH has been laid off for 7 months now, and things are really starting to get tight. There are just no jobs around here. Everyone cross your fingers that things will get better soon!

Jillian- I am worrying about you, check in, please!

Joni135 07-13-2009 11:07 PM

So, I took the plunge and joined WW tonight....I was hoping that 3FC had an active WW thread, but they really don't....so.....I'm going to just post here to tell you all how GREAT I am doing....LOL!!!

The new program from WW is just enough for me to think it's something that will work...provided I start tracking and planning a lot better than I've been doing the last year....

I'll even update my ticker and for those old timers on this board, I embarrassed to say that my current weight is 25 lbs higher than my lowest weight I got when I did LAWL/3FC challenges!!

Repo girl 07-14-2009 12:10 AM

Good to see you Joni!

We got to eat peas and carrots for dinner out of our garden. Yay!!!

Clanori 07-14-2009 09:49 AM

Good morning everyone.Hope you are having a good morning so far.Yesterday was a little better.I cut back considerably on the starches.Though I did have a break down when my daughter made white chocolate raspberry brownies. It is soi hard staying on the diet when they are home.Hopefully my will power will be better today.I think I am going to do a TO next Monday. It is my daughters 16th birthday this Friday and we promised her Chinese food so hopefully I can find something semi friendly for supper.I think I will take the kids and the dogs to the park today and take a hike.Have a great day.

JerseyMadchen 07-14-2009 10:32 AM

Hey guys

Bad day here. I got on the scale and I am back up to 235. I don't get it! I have been exercising like crazy, drinking nothing but water, eatting OP.... I just want to give up. I am sooo depressed.

I am so tired of looking like this, I disgust myself. I don't know what to do. I try so hard, and get NOTHING.

dawn78 07-14-2009 10:37 AM

Joni - I also joined WW four and half weeks ago. In the first 3 weeks I was down 6 lbs. My brother got married last weekend so of course I'm up a little right now, but so far I'm happy with the new program. We leave for vacation on Saturday so that will also be a challenge. I'll be happy if I can maintain that week and then I'll have to crack the whip again when I get back. I just had to do something to get my weight moving again.

sweetandspicy 07-14-2009 10:49 AM

Amy- I know how discouraging things can be and that you have been working so hard. Try to be patient it will all even out. When you exercise especially if you were not exercising regularly, your muscles tear and to repalce the tear tiny veins in the muscles retain water, once your body gets use to the exercise and you start to build up muscle, you will begin to loose. Muscle does not weigh more than fat, but muscle is more efficent at burning calories and is more compact within your body so if you are building muscle you can weigh more than you look. Now I got this information when I was researching about exercise so I am of course no expert just passing along info I hope helps.

Joni135 07-14-2009 12:16 PM

Amy M - great explanation....that also explains why they tell you to rest and recover the muscle groups between workout sessions! I wish I could say I was retaining 38 lbs of water...but I know better.

Dawn - good to see you....nice to see another WW out there....

Katie - yummy garden food....I watch you on FB....you've had a busy SUMMER!

Read through all my new WW material this morning....so far so good. I have to admit, I'm hungry, but it truly is a psychological thing and I'm not going to give in. "Filling Foods" are my friend..."Filling Foods" are my friend :-)

I'm craving gazpacho...how wierd is that.

BarbaraB 07-14-2009 01:14 PM

Joni! Join the I regained the weight that I worked so hard to get off club. I hope WW is the key to getting your weight back to where you'd be more happy with it.

Katie, How fun to eat your own home grown produce. I gave up on gardening, I was just feeding the deer. Heck those deer are getting brazen.. they've eaten the pansies in a pot right next to my front door. I live in suburbia, I didn't expect to be plagued by deer.

Amy, don't be discouraged. The scale is initially very unkind to those who take up exercise. Something they just don't mention in that biggest loser show. I'm not sure how it is that those people manage to lose so quickly, as it is just freaky how fast they drop it all. I have been thinking about reading Jillian's book on metabolism that she just put out. Perhaps there are some clues in there about how to get our bodies to work with us instead of against us. In the meantime, give yourself a day off now and again to be sure that you are not overdoing it, and know that long term you are doing the right thing that will result in you being smaller (maybe not immediately lighter) and healthier and feeling better and more confident.

I have my hypnosis in a few hours.... I have decided if they can just help me to eat slower that it might be a great help. Since I tend to eat way too fast and consume way too many calories that way.

LoisKent 07-14-2009 01:54 PM

Hi all
Looks like I am not the only one to have been away awhile but I am sure we are all happy to be back.
Its been a rough spring around here also but things are slowly coming together and I can concentrate on my needs once again . So its back to trying to get rid of the extra behind and still keep what little is on the front (always seems that is the first to go for me).:)
Just wanted to share a quick easy burger we made this weekend thats actually good for us !

TURKEY BURGERS
ground turkey
cumin. corriander, chopped onions and chili peppers (all to taste)
grill until most of the way done and top with a portabella(sp?) cap and a slice of cheese and finish cooking. Add tomato and slap on a lite bun.

Might be an old recipe but I had not seen it before and thought it was well worth sharing . Even my picky son loved it and he is like Mikey hates everything lol.
Well need to get off here . Everyone take care and I am praying for all out there who are having stress in thier lives. If we all keep throwing the ropes to each other to keep one another together this side of the tug of war rope with the stress monster never has to worry about getting pulled to far over the edge. Hang on tight and everything will get better !

Repo girl 07-14-2009 02:06 PM

Jillian- Wherefore art thou? I am calling you out!

chiquita623 07-14-2009 04:55 PM

Hi Everyone. Just checking in for now. Not much new with me today. Going bowling with my 9-1/2 yo grandson tonight and out for dinner I think. Other than that not much else is happening.

Good to see some of the "old" regulars back on the boards.

And Joni - I too have started doing WW. I've gained back 10 pounds and am desparately trying to find the right fit for me to get it off. I agree that the WW board here on 3FC doesn't move very quickly. But they do have some great recipes on them.

Well, I suppose I should get off here. Have a good night everyone.

Hello!

Hello guys & dolls,

I'm popping in to say hello.. I used to post regularly here. Looks like a couple of you still do so! I recently lost my job and immediately packed on 15 lbs... time to get back on the wagon. :( Now I need to find my booklet back and hit it hard.

Have a great night ya'll!

welcome back wendy and tina!

sweetandspicy 07-15-2009 10:33 AM

Hello to every one!! I hope today turns out to be a Wonderful Wednesday!!
I have eaten better this week and exercised everyday and I am going this afternoon to buy the 30 day shred. I think I am finally ready.
My 11 year old is going to Quarterback camp this week, he has aspirations to be the next Peyton Manning. I ofcourse am bias but he is pretty good for 11. This has also been recently affirmed by coaches. As in many parts of the US high school/college Football is a very very big deal and here where we live it is a huge deal. The university of Tennessee (where Manning went) always produces great NFL players and where My kids will go to Highschool the football team has been the state champs for like 7 years in a row and have not lost a game is 70 games. So it is a compliment for the Coach to tell you you throw well. He is simply on cloud 9. He told me last night when he makes it to the NFL he is going to say he owes it all to his Mom who stays outside with him snapping the ball because his mom doesn't throw well she has prepared him for anything.

Not sure if thats a compliment or not. Anyway he is my new exercise buddy so now I have absolutely no excuse not to exercise someway every night.

JerseyMadchen 07-15-2009 10:42 AM

Hey guys. Morning.

JLem311 07-15-2009 11:50 AM

morning all.

chiquita623 07-15-2009 12:39 PM

Amy - take deep breaths and let it out slowly. Keep repeating to yourself that this is just a bump in the road with both your mom and DH and things will work out.

You are just going to town on the workouts!! I am so impressed by that. Keep up the good work.

chiquita623 07-15-2009 12:46 PM

Good Morning/Afternoon everyone. Just checking in.

Having a somewhat stressful week. DD is moving this weekend with the kids (9yo and 1 yo) to Philadelphia. She got a job with the VA there. I saw them last night for a little while. I am trying not to be too emotional around her or the kids as I don't want to upset any of them. This is going to be hard enough on them. I am trying to be mindful of my eating but right now I find myself just eating stuff. Most of the time I'm not even hungry. Guess it's just something to do to keep myself busy. And I've already booked a trip to Philly to see DD and family in late September. I'm sure it will all work out. But on the bright side of things, I still have 3 grandkids in this area so that's a good thing. I'll plan some stuff with them before schol starts.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Just needed to get it out there. Have a good afternoon everyone. I'll check back in later today.

Mama Nicole 07-15-2009 01:10 PM

aw, Lori,, I feel for you. It is hard to let them go, no matter how old they are.........

Wow, we have Joni, Tina, Wendy, Lori....and others.......it's like a blast from the past.

JerseyAmy........good luck with your Mom's appt. It is so scary to go through this kind of stuff, and how lucky is your mom that you will be there with her. As far as DH.....I know it seems like nothing could be worse with him right now.....but I assure you, it is mostly just the adjustment of living together. the first year of our marraige was really hard compared to the years that followed. Don't get me wrong......there were plenty of good times.....but just learning each other was a task. It seems like when you love someone it should be easy.....but I assure you, nothing worth having comes easy. Like Amy M. said......just try to ride it out.......you both will have to make adjustments along the way :)

Well, I still haven't started eating healthy. I am not sure why.

My boys bought cap guns yesterday at Walmart, and they are cracking me up. Who knew such a simple thing could keep two boys busy for two days? I love it.

Ok, have to run........I hope everyone is doing well, and Barbara.....how did the hypnotist go?
XOXO

Mama Nicole 07-15-2009 01:10 PM
