Starting from Thursday June 18th – Tuesday August 18th
:tread:
An 8 week Exercise challenge
:yoga:

I know this is different from the other challenges but lets give it a try. Each day we can add some kind of exercise into our lives. From parking further from the front door at the store or joining a gym. Any exercise helps. By posting in this thread we can give each other ideas, motivation and of course encouragement!! So who is with me???
:bike2:

:running: How to Burn an Extra 100 Calories Fast :lifter:

Burning an extra 100 calories a day can be easy and fast. If you burn an extra 100 calories a day, that's 700 a week. Burning an extra 100 calories a day for five weeks equals 3500 calories, which equals one whole pound of weight loss. If you burn an extra 100 calories a day for one year, you'll weigh a whole ten pounds less without cutting back on food intake. Get started today, and lose 100 calories a dayfast by doing any of the exercises below.
Burn an extra 100 calories a day fast; skip rope for only ten minutes.
Burn 100 calories a day in ten minutes riding a bike.
Lift weights for 15 minutes.
Make love for an hour to burn 100 calories. You can also make love twice a day for 30 minutes to burn 100 calories.
Run or jog one mile in ten minutes to burn 100 calories
Take a walk for fifteen minutes and burn 100 calories.
Run up and down the stairs for fifteen minutes.
Turn on your favorite music and dance around the room for twenty minutes
Wash your car for twenty minutes to burn 100 calories fast.
Clean your house. Vacuuming for 35 minutes will burn 100 calories.

YES .... Count me In

I think this is a fabulous idea and you can count me in. I am going to use this challenge to help me get in shape for this wedding I am going to on August 15th. Wonderful idea for the challenge.

Maybe I will put up an excercise ticker too to track my progress. Well ladies I have to start getting ready for work and it's raining again. I will try to add this challenge to my signature and put up an excercise ticker too later on in the day. I will check in while I am at work so ladies have a wonderful day.

P.S. I put my final post on Summer Slim Down #2 this morning with my results.

sweetandspicy 06-18-2009 09:14 AM

I am going to try to post my exercise daily. Everyday I still dread exercising but once I start I am fine. I am really going to try to mix it up this week. I enjoy walking the most but with the weather I have to find alternatives. I have the biggest looser bootcamp DVD and I just bought Jillian Michaels 30 day shred so I am going to try to do those on rainy/hot days. I also have a routine I made up on my own that I do when I can't manage time for a walk or DVD. I am also trying to make more of an effort to try to incorporate exercise into my daily routine. We do not have stairs at work but I have been parking further away and making an effort to get up and just walk around the building when I have been sitting to long.

Good Afternoon Ladies. I cleaned my house last night - for an hour and a half but did not go to water aerobics. Tonight I have to go grocery shopping and am going to hop on the eliptical while the clothes are being laundered. Think I'll grab me a book, put on my headphones with some tunes and see how long I last. It's been 6 months or more since I've been on it. Sad isn't it. Anyway, just checking in for the day. And I'll get my ticker up too even though I'm not proud of it.

Have a great Thursday everyone.

kennedy5672 06-18-2009 09:25 PM

I am slowly trying to get myself organized here. With a ticker and my daily tracker. I love this accountability. I would have not made it this far without you guys. ~ Thanks :encore:

Good Morning Ladies. I know I said I was going to the store last night and I did but when I got home we ended up staining and sealing the deck!!! Took over 4 hours to do. Not sure how many calories I burned doing it but it sure looks nice today. Was terribly hot and humid while we were doing it though but at least it's done and we don't have to do it this weekend!!

Tonight I'm having all 5 of the grandkids sleepover and then tomorrow we're going to the riverfront to the festival down there. So am sure I'll be doing some chasing after kids both tonight and tomorrow. That's my plan for the weekend. We'll see how it pans out.

Have a great Friday everyone. I'll check back later.

sweetandspicy 06-19-2009 11:08 AM

Good job Lauie I am sure you burned a ton of calories. They say doing household work at a fast pace for an entire hour is the same as an intense aerobic work out for 30 minutes? Who knowa but good job anyway.

I really appreciate everyones response to this thread. I know anyone can lose weight without exercise but I have realized how important exercise is to my weight loss. This is from an article I just read:

How to burn extra calories at work
Park your car far away from your office, so you have to walk a little bit more.
If you work in a larger building, use the restroom in another floor, by going with the stairs.
Every other phone call you get, stand up and walk in a circle.
While sitting down, trace the alphabet on the ground with your feet (one set per leg), this will work your abs.
Another abs exercise is to get a bottle of water and hold it above your head and slightly move it from side to side. Repeat for 10-15 times.
During your lunch break, take 20-30 minutes to walk; window shopping at the mall counts too.
Insert some squats in your work routine, if you have an office do them there while you are on the phone. Otherwise do them in the restrooms, if you feel comfortable there.

kennedy5672 06-22-2009 07:14 AM

Okay ladies here is my exercise stats for last week. Just simply horrible :o. I plan on doing better this week. My motivation o excercise has been totally off. I am not sure if it is all of this rain that has got me down and out. However, even though I did no exercise I must say I am still POP. This weekend I have been really having some issues about where I am and where I want to be. I am also looking back to wasted years. I am trying not to dwell over it and accept the decisions I have made in the past and try to move forward. Since the past year I have been rediscovering who I really am. For once I am starting to appreciate ME and not the me everyone wants me to be. I guess we all go through with this at some point (or a few times - ha, ha, ha)in our lives. Well I have to start getting ready for work it is abot 7:12 am now. Today is my late night and I will be working until 8:00 pm. I will try to log in sometime this afternoon.

Walking again and it feels great!

Okay I went walking yesterday afternoon. I wasn't planning on it nor did I feel like it but my neighbor took all the surrounding kids to the park so I said what the heck I will go to and I am so happy that I did. It felt so good and my neighbor was getting kind of tired after a couple of laps but I wanted to keep going but didn't want to be rude. I am going to see if I can go today again. We'll see.

Sorry I did not post this past week. i have been on vacation and we had some severe weather and were without internet service for several days. I did not eat that well this week and did not get in my water everyday but I thrived in the exercise department. I exercised every day this week and did several major household task that felt like a work out. We cleaned out the garage, painted two rooms and a hallway, cleaned the windows inside and out, pulled weeds at our house and my Great Aunts, and stayed busy most of the week. So I think that helped with my bad eating habits.

I am glad that everyone has started exercising and I hope everyone continues this trend. I am trying to make exercise a habit but some days I do dread it. But it is getting easier. It does however realieve some stress for me so that is a plus.

We are going camping this weekend so I am so dreading that. I am already planning my menu I am so close to being under 200 that I am so motivated to stay on plan!!!

Hope everyone has a great start to the week!!!

Congratulations Amy on your exercise success. I wish we still had the on demand options so I could find some new programs but great job on using all your resources!!!

I also wanted to let you all know that I go to a website called Dailyplate.com and it allows you to add in your foods and track how many calories you are consuming. It also allows you to track your exercise and calories burned. It has a data base that has most foods including LA weightloss products. It is free and an excelled weight loss tool. It has helped me with food journaling as well as realizing how many calories i should consume and how many I am consuming. It also breaks down proteins, carbs, sugars and fiber. I dont know if I have posted this or not but I thought it might help someone else as much as it has helped me. I am almost done with my LA contact so I am counting on this to be my virtual counselor. It also has almost any exercise you can imagine and it estimates how many calories you burned and you can add in any amount of time. It has walking, walking with a stroller it is pretty specific.

sweetandspicy 07-02-2009 10:09 AM

Did not exercise yesterday. I felt so tired. TOM hit me pretty hard this time around and all I have wanted to do is eat chocolate. I knew this was coming as I have been pregnant and breast feeding seems like forever do I guess everything is trying to catch up. Anyway I am going to do my best to get some cardio and walking in this weekend and try not to over do it on the 4th.

hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July and I hope all the Canadians had a great Canada DAy!!!

S:25 minute walk/jog

Ok seems like the exercise thread is moving very slowly. I have not been doing well with getting in all my foods and water and then being very hungry at night. This week I will be doing take off Tuesday and Wednesday. Hopefully this will get me off to a good start. I was off work for 11 days and that really messed me up, so this is my first full week of work and will put me back on track. I am 21.8 pounds away from my original goal. I was hoping to have it off by September but that is quite an ambitious goal, so I am just going to loose as much as I can until then. August,September and October are busy months with football and 4 kids playing and my oldest is now on the middle school team so we will be pulled in so many directions and I am worried about the eating habits we developed last year. So I will have to prepare a lot of picnics I guess.

Anyway I hope everyone is doing well and staying on plan and getting Exercise!!!!!

This is from Jillian Michaels Website about exercise:Regular exercise leads to better health, more energy, a lower risk of heart disease and diabetes, and a longer life. But it isn't just the physical benefits of exercise that push me — it's what it does for my mental health.

The mental-health benefits start right after you exercise. Have you ever noticed how good you feel when you complete a workout? That you feel relaxed, or even euphoric? That mood lift, often called "runner's high," comes courtesy of natural morphine-like chemicals called endorphins. Exercise floods the brain with endorphins, which help to relieve pain, enhance your mood, and relieve stress. But the feel-good effects don't stop after the endorphin rush subsides. Over time, exercise provides a major boost to your confidence. As you start working out and getting stronger, your sense of strength in other aspects of your life will naturally flourish as well. To put it another way, if you can survive my workouts, you can do anything — and when you feel that sense of empowerment, nothing will be able to stand between you and the life you want to live.

Kristinx 07-20-2009 03:08 PM

I really need to get some more exercise in but I dunno where to find the time! This is my day:
Get up at 6am to get ready for work
Drive almost an hour to work
Work till 5ish
Drive hour back home, usually picking up some dinner fixins on the way
Get home a little after 6 p.m., start supper
Supper between 7-8
then relaxing, then bed...

I know I have a couple options....Get up super early and work out...but that is NOT me. Work out as soon as getting home from work, however I am usually famished by then and need to eat for fear of passing out. Last option is in the evenings...do you think the workout is still effective after eating dinner? I heard it's a myth you should exercise on an empty stomach but I dunno about a full one?

sweetandspicy 07-21-2009 08:54 AM

Kristin- I was reading people magazine and they had an article on Kristi BRinkley who is in her 50's and looks fabulous. She said that she sometimes does not have time to work out so she modifies her routine at home. She does lunges as she cooks or walks down the hallway and she carries her arm weights in the car and tries to do arm exercises while stuck in traffic or in the car pool lane at school. Also look on line and they have exercise tips while you are working . I have tried some of them it is mainly some leg exercises under your desk. That might help too..

cecil 07-21-2009 12:20 PM

Kristin,

I hear ya on the time thing. I did not think I would be able to get up and get it done in the AM either, but I started this boot camp at my Gym on Tues and Thurs. 5:30 am to 6:30 am So I figured I may as well so it the other days of the week, and believe me I love it! Then you don't even have the chance to make up reasons why you can't do it because it is already done and for half of the time you are probably still asleep. HA! Try it out! Seriously. You may like it!

Kristinx 07-22-2009 10:21 AM

Even still...then I would have the question of eat before or after a workout. I do get low blood sugar and in the past when exercising in the mornings before eating I have blacked out, fainted, etc...so whether I exercise in the morning or evening do you think it's still effective if it's shortly after a meal?
I remember hearing Bob on the biggest loser say that the belief that exercising on an empty stomach is better is actually a myth but not sure what others have been saying on the topic
