Good Morning :sunny:

Bill~ Kudos for getting on gerbilna!

Anne~ I hope you are feeling better today. I always hate those "irritated" days. They always feel like such a waste.

onebyone~ you've done so well so far! I suspect if you find a job doing what you love you won't have trouble at all feeling confident.

 to our new folks!!

Yesterday I was reading in one of my inspirational eater's guides...to close my mouth! Ha! Pretty simple eh? :lol3: The point is tho, keep your mouth closed for food. Kind of the way I consider the kitchen "closed" after 8pm. No eating after 8. Do the same thing with my mouth. Its closed except for specified meal times. That is the only time I can put food into it. Any other times, my mouth is closed for food.

This seemed to work pretty well for me yesterday. Yesterday seemed to be one of those peckish days. I was fighting the urge to have a little of this and a little of that.

I managed to keep the weekend 100% all the way.

Today I meet with my PT. Ive decided to not work my legs in any way that involves lifting them using the muscles in the hip area. I dont want to mess up my hip again before I even get started with her. But she is good enough to be able to work around that kind of thing.

Im off to get ready.....have a great day everyone!

Hey all..I am here. I had a-fib last wednesday just before my stress tests so that when it was time for the test I had taken my pills after I called the dr..so my heart rate would not go up during the test. They had to give me chemicals to do my test. They are now done and am waiting for the restuls. Hopefully it will be a little later this week and the results will be that I will be able to go back to work. Right now the surgery is on hold and we are trying new meds and they seem to be helping me.
As with dh...still waiting to hear anything. Thanks for thinking about me.

Went to my earth centered spirituality's small group yesterday. It felt good to be among my people again, but probably not the best thing for my hip. It was decided that next meeting, if I couldn't attend in person, we'd teleconference me in.

Didn't fall asleep til after 2:30am this morning. Not good. I need all my energy and brainpower to get through this day.

Maryblu: Thanks for the history lesson and the banana bread recipe. I'd have asked if you hadn't volunteered.

I don't know much about dawgs, or the tethering laws in your state, but when I was a kid, my neighbors had Norwegian Elkhounds. Those dogs loved to run! During the day, they tethered them to something like a clothes line that ran the entire length of their unfenced yard. The dogs had access to every square inch of the property, and never seemed interested in getting loose.

Onebyone: Ouch for the financial pressure. I'm sure that getting your career off the ground is going to take research and planning, just like getting healthy.

Definitely credit vou. You brought your anxiety here instead of the kitchen.

Anne: If I have as much trouble tonight as I had last, I might try Benadryl too.

Congrats and sympathies for your son reaching this milestone. Now you get to enjoy watching things from the top shelf of your bookcase magically appear in his hands. ;)

Candy: :welcome: and congrats on getting through this semester. What year are you in and what's your major?

Bill: :yay: for breaking in Gerbilina! Nice that she's such a smooth, quiet machine!

Robin: :yay: for the new strategy!

Chris:  and  Thank you for the update.

Hello, had a bad painful day yesterday and rested alot.Today was able to get out to lunch with my husband and around the grocery store. Now I am on the heating pad, less pain today,I may get better yet!Has anyone tried the diet plan in the new book for any length of time? I am trying it but it seems a little complicated. It gives me alot of food 2000 cal but some of the exchanges are a little confusing.Like some of the fruit exchanges,2 1/2 tangerines or 2/3 of a mango. What do I do with the other 1/2 and 1/3?Odd,I understant the idea that they are going by 100 calories but it makes it complicated. Also some things are excessive for me anyway,1 1/2 cups of eggplant or 1 2/3 cups cooked zucchini or 2 cups cottage cheese.Who eats 2 cups of cottage cheese?Any suggestions appreciated.

twilit tera-That is terrible abour your hip and that you are still in so much pain and can't get it resolved. How long has this been going on?Can you sign up for some medical assistance?Sorry if that is too personal or something you have already discussed.I know this whole tendon thing has me on edge and sort of depressed at the things I can't get done.If they told me they don't know what was wrong or learn to live with it I would have to smack someone!

RobinW-Great job on 100% for the entire weekend!

BillBlueEyes-1/2 hr on the eliptical is a very good workout I used to only do a few minutes on it at tth Y.

Welcome CJZee and CandaceG!!!!!

wndranne-Kudos for keeping with your Beck plan even if your mood was not cooperating,I get that way too and tend to compensate with sugary treats.

onebyone-Sounds like you have alot going on at once but you deserve credit for sticking with the program. What are you studying at school?

maryblu-You are right about time flying! Your salad sounds delicious and the bannanna bread.I have been trying some things out using the whole wheat flour.I was surprised on the bag 1/4 cup has 4g fiber and 4g of protein. I am trying to boost my protein.

wendylan 05-04-2009 06:59 PM

I forgot to mention in my previous note.
BillBlueEyes-I love to get to the yard sales too,I find most of my glass I sell on ebay at yard sales, church rummage sales and thrift stores.Yard sales are just starting around here as it gets warmer,it was killing me sitting here on the couch while those sales are going on.
one-by-one-an you sell some of your projects on ebay for extra money? It sounds like you are busy the way it is but you can make a few bucks.I remember those lovely pins you made.I sell mostly vintage glass and vintage jewelry. Also extra craft supplies sell well if you have some you are not going to use.The selling season is best for me anyway once school gets back in until just after New Years with a surge during tax refunds.Summer for me has been very slow.

Coaches/Buddies I'm calling it an almost on plan day. I forgot to take in my prepacked lunch, so I had to wing it, but made some good choices. I also got my swim in, and feel good about that. I had a migraine today, but it wasn't too bad and passed pretty quickly.

So plan for tomorrow is done and lunch is packed. I have to lay out my running clothes for the morning, but then I'm set. I'm going to watch the Tudors on my DVR and then hit the hay. I have a late meeting tomorrow, so I'm staying home with the kids in the morning and DH is picking them up in the afternoon.

Candy I think getting started when life settles a bit is a good idea. BDS takes some time, especially at first. Welcome to our group.

Bill I take it you enjoyed your clam fritters. Give yourself credit for that, and then do it again in a year!

I looked up the Elegant Trogon and have not seen it. Beautiful bird though. I'll look for it, but guessing suburban Tucson isn't its favorite habitat.

Robin :high: on a 100% weekend! Nothing like getting some momentum going.

Chris Hoping your test comes out OK, and you can get back to work.

Tera Glad you got to your group yesterday. It must feel good to get connected again. Love that you can telecon into it if you need to!

Wendy Sorry for your painful day. I seem to recall thinking the same sorts of things about the Beck plan on 7/8 cup of yogurt. But because I'm on a "sensible" plan, and not trying to Beck the grapefruit diet or something, I used it as data, and just continued on.

DS is not happy. Will talk to you tomorrow.

Anne

Hello

Hi,

Thank you everyone for the lovely welcomes. I feel so special. :thanks:

Bill, I heard of the Beck Solution right here from you on 3FC. I joined 3FC many months back but never really posted much, kind of just thought about getting on a weight loss plan, but didn't take any action. About a month ago I was reading through some post and saw this thread and decided to see what the Beck Solution was about. Read up about it online and then bought the book and workbook used. (living on a student's budget ;)) So, thank you for being here so that I could discover it.

twilit tera- I am in my second year working toward a degree in education. Two more years to go. But I will say that the last two years have flown by so maybe two more years is not so bad. My two daughters are also taking classes. Josey is at the end of her 3rd year toward a bachelors in nursing and Tobey, like me, is finishing up her 2nd year in education. We all take online classes through a college about 45 minutes from here. We can go in if we need to but mainly it is all online. I can graduate all the way with online classes, isn't that cool. Saves a fortune in driving expenses plus saves time.

I also have two boys, 18 and 20. They too live her with me and for now they are taking care of the "farm". We have a few acres, one acre in garden, and we have a couple milk goats, a milk cow, bees, and lots of poultry. The boys are keeping everything running till the girls and I are out of school and then the girls and I are going to help the boys start a woodworking business. We have plans. :)

So far so good on my eating plan and exercise. I do not think I have messed up or missed on either since I began two months ago. Something is different this time. It is not even hard, it is just coming together. Sounds dumb I guess.

I am glad that everyone is doing well. I am dying to get out in the garden. My boys have it started and the greenhouse they built is filled with adorable plants waiting to see real dirt. If I had my choice in life I would be a gardener. Too bad it does not pay better and come with health insurance! ;)

Take care everyone and keep up the good work.
That elliptical sounds pretty cool Bill. I use to use one years ago at the Y but it was a bit different. They are a good workout. Put some music on and it can be a fun time.

Candy

Diet Coaches/Buddies - Nothing special. Didn't overeat last night at a meeting with food on the table. CREDIT moi. But that's a slightly muted credit because there wasn't much tempting bad-for-me food, LOL.

The pad arrived that's to go under the elliptical. By someone's screw up, likely mine, it didn't arrive with the installer. Now all I gotta do is lift it and slide it under. That will be my weight lifting exercise for the day for sure.

Robin (RobinW) - Good plan to favor your hip til you get it calmed. Kudos for a whole weekend OP - what a way to start the week. I also like the simplicity of " ... to close my mouth!"

Anne (wndranne) - Kudos for the swimming and clothes laid out for running. I do like the cadence of your regular exercising.

If you do spot an Elegant Trogon in suburban Tuscon, call the Arizona Audubon society IMMEDIATELY - you'll see a stampede of birders with spotting scopes that, itself, will be a show.

Tera (twilit tera) - Kudos for getting back to your earth centered spirituality group. Ouch for the tension between the spirit and the hip. Good luck finding your path there.

Chris (angelmomma210) - Yay for the new meds working. Sending supportive thoughts to your DH for his saga and to you for the results of the test.

Wendy (Wendylan) - Ouch for yesterday's pain, but great that you got out anyway. LOL at your observation the Beck recipes require parts of a fruit. Yep, for me, it's like Yoda would say, "There is mango or not mango; there is no half."

Candy (CandaceG) - Kudos for two months (!!!) of on-plan eating and exercise - sound really good.

Neat that your boys did a greenhouse; feeling a twinge of envy since I'm stepping over our tomato plants on the kitchen floor as they come inside each evening the past couple of days. DW won't let them sleep over outside when it drops below 50 degrees. Only two weeks until they can go in the ground.

It's terrible if it keeps you - the adult - from achieving a very important goal or deprives you of the benefits of losing weight.

Hi coaches,

I've been missing you guys but you've been with me in spirit in that I'm still managing to read my response cards and so many of them are quotes from your posts! Issues with work have me swamped for the time being. I can't realistically see getting back to my routine here for a few more weeks, although I'll keep trying to pop in when I can find a minute.

I'm proud to report I have been on plan with my calorie counting diet plan, although with a lot more substitutions due to less time. I usually stay nutritionally equivalent (no cookies instead of brown rice!). Haven't been to the gym in almost 2 weeks but I'm determined to get there tomorrow and yesterday I did ab crunches at home. I can just feel my core / abdominal muscles going away :yikes: Weight is about right, slowly decreasing. Still no diet cokes! :yay:

Not reading and posting has me feeling like a pillar of my program is missing and I'm a little wobbly; I know your encouragement and motivation has been a big part of my success. I hate not having the time to read your posts and reply individually but I'm putting aside my "all or nothing" thinking and CREDIT moi for accepting this is all I can do today and it's better than nothing!

 Hope everyone is doing well!

Thank you to Bill and everyone for the kind welcome. Would you recommend the first book or the second?

Also, to your questions re the book and forum -- I have been active on 3FC for the past 2 months and enjoy reading your positive thread. I see it often when I search for "new posts". Then I read some reviews online of Judith Beck's book, which is what has brought me to this place and time.

You are all most appreciated. CJ

RobinW 05-05-2009 07:57 AM

Good Morning!

CJ~ Id recommend the first one (first) Get that one under your belt, work it, then go on to the second one.

davidette~ Big Kudos for acknowledging the "all or nothing" mentality. Sometimes thats just so tough. Another Big Kudos for making it here to post

Bill~ be careful lifting that thing! Kudos for passing on the food, even if it wasnt all that appetizing. More Kudos for not eating it just because it was there :)

Anne~ have a great op day today!

Candy

wendylan~ I dont use the diet in Dr. Beck's 2nd book. I prefer choosing my own plan which was in the first book. If you are looking for interesting cottage cheese recipes go here. http://www.stumptuous.com/the-cottage-cheese-page this is where I learned to like cottage cheese

Workout went great yesterday with my PT. She is going to send me my weeks worth of workouts, and check up on me during the week. She is also going to be involved in my blog. I even got the comments fixed!! :cb: :cb: So that's pretty cool!

I have an event on friday...a dessert and wine baby shower. I wont have any issues passing on the wine, since I am driving I wont touch it. But I could use some strategies on passing on the desserts. (lets hope they are filled with nuts!) That makes it all simple  (Im allergic)

Im op all the way!

Have a great day everyone!

RobinW 05-05-2009 07:59 AM

Doh! passing on the desserts...

"That's just not about me anymore."

Rested all day, then went to the Chiropractor. I got to see my x-rays. I plan to email and ask if she can send the images to me so I can show my family. My spine was curved to the right and one hip was clearly higher than the other.

One thing that definitely seems clear is that there isn't just one problem. It's a whole system that has been gradually getting more and more out of whack. The event in November was merely the final straw. So maybe there's tendon damage, but there's also a lot of work to do to get my skeletal system back in shape so I don't continue getting injured.

She gave me another adjustment, then hooked my hip up to something like a tens unit. I spent some time on that, then she massaged my upper leg very deeply. When I got off the table there was a significant reduction in my pain level and all the muscle spasms in my hip and thigh were gone!

Today I feel better than I have in a while. My thigh is pretty sore where she massaged it, but this isn't unexpected. The hip pain is lower. I was able to walk in the pool 10 minutes before changing to backstroke.

C said she wants me to move it as I can, not to stress it too much, but to do gentle stretches and get up and move around a bit throughout the day. My next appointment with her is Thursday night.

I'm going to be so very on plan today! :cheer:

Wendy: Sorry to hear about the rise in pain levels, and bummer about missing those yard sales, but I'm glad you're taking it easy now.

I've applied for assistance for one hospital, and I have an appointment for prescreening at another. I should be able to get some discount from them, but it remains to be seen how much, and since we're just getting by on B's income, I'll need to find a way to earn cash even though I can't work. (my application for SSDI is in process.)

I guess the only thing to do is keep working at it.

Candy: Way cool about your completely online Education degree! I don't think it sounds dumb at all, that things are clicking for you this time and you're finding it easy to stay on plan. I think that for most of us, it's just a matter of finding the right plan!

Bill: :D good for you not eating food in front of you. Tempting or not, it would have been a simple thing to just reach out and nibble.

Davidette: :yay: for staying OP during your hiatus. :yay::yay: for doing as much as you can here, and accepting it.

CJ: I haven't read the second, but from what I've heard, I'd say it depends. If you already have a diet and exercise plan that you're happy with, I'd recommend the first book, which contains lots of useful strategies to help you stay on that plan. If you're still searching for a plan that works for you, you might want to use the second, with its built-in plan.

Or... just listen to Robin. :) She's well worth listening to!

Robin: :yay: for all the blog progress! :dust: and :crossed: for that baby shower.

EEO took dh's case. Now they are investigation. Still waiting on the results..it may take a few day.

AnneWonders 05-05-2009 10:49 PM

Coaches/Buddies On plan today. I had a bad day at work, and didn't really want to eat. Got my run in today, and did a nice 3 mile run with no walks. I'm happy about that; I was starting to worry that I had lost the recipe.

I'm planned, packed and ready for tomorrow. Mountain biking tomorrow morning. Also have a special situation with a colleague's retirement lunch. I'm guessing we're doing Mexican, so I've planned fajitas, which are a reasonable option.

Candy I hope you got to play in your garden. Glad to see you with us.

Bill Hope your weightlifting went OK, with no back problems.

Grinning at the thought of a flock of birdwatchers descending upon my little neighborhood, giant lenses in tow.

davidette I was wondering where you went. Good to see you back, and staying on plan, even with substitutions.

CJ I liked the second book a lot, but find myself going back to the first book more often, since I don't used the CBDL food plan.

Robin I think your desserts will have nuts. You'd better stay away just to be safe.

Tera I'm so happy to hear about your good experience with the chiropractor. Waiting to hear about your being on plan!

Chris So glad to hear the EEO people took DH's case.

Anne
