La Weightloss #47

Hi Everyone:
I think we need a new one.

dianem1 05-17-2002 03:07 PM

Hi All:
I have not been doing so well staying on program. I have gotten myself stuck in this binging cycle that I keep repeating over and over. I am at the point to where I need to take things a day at a time. The councelor let me have some extra weeks when I bought my vitamins the other day so that is a good thing.
Just wanted to say I am still here just not as often at this point.
I hope everyone is doing well.

HI Diane and good to see you. I know it's harder to post when you're having difficulties, so you're awfully brave. I know you'll find the strength to finish up, and we'll all be here for you either way. :)

Jibbelle 05-19-2002 08:56 AM

Diane-
Thanks for the new thread. It was nice of the counselor to give you extra weeks. You have given them enough money as it is!! I guess they make their money on LA Lites and Supplements anyway, not the program costs. I hope taking things one day at a time really helps you. You are SOOO close to your goal...it is well within reach if you just concentrate on the task at hand. :)

I did really well at staying on plan this week. I missed a few fruit, but overall did pretty well. I weighed in up 0.4 lbs. But it is that time of the month, so I am not suprised. I bet when I go in next Saturday I will be down a lb or two. Have to wait and see!!!

Take care all...have a great weekend!

Checking In

Well, I must admit that I am really pleased. I have just started with LA Weight Loss, and I love what I am experiencing (so far). I've been doing the program for a week and a half, with a 5 pound loss. This is the first weight loss program that has ever worked for me, and the personal visits really keep me on my toes.

I have a long way to go, but I am optimistic. Currently, my goal weight is set to 145, but I think I'll go for 135 if they allow me to make that adjustment.

dianem1 05-20-2002 10:21 AM

Bunny and Jibbelle:
Thanks for the the support . I feel like I am being tested. If I make it through this tough time I am having, I can make through anything. Those bad habits can come back and take over quickly and boy are they hard to get rid of again.
Jibbelle I am glad you are doing well staying on program.
Welcome Joy it is a great program and I do love the one on one, I don't think I would have made this far being in a big group.
Have a great week everyone.

Well, i hope everyone is doing well. I was *horrible* yesterday! This is why I can't drink -- I eat the planet the next day. I started adding it up on FitDay, and when I got to 4200 calories, I just gave up and moved on. I'm back on track today, although it's hard to eat when, quite frankly, there's no food left in town. I have to say though, that I'm really pleased with my new ability to screw up, but then let it go and get back to business. Normally I would just give up and puss out. I think the therapist is what's helping me out.

I'm still exhausted. Pardon the rambling...:dizzy:

I have a question -- has anyone used the breathasize tape? I've never even opened mine.

JoyUvette 05-21-2002 11:31 AM

Breathasize

I have never used the Breathasize tape. I did look at it once, but it is sooooo boring. I prefer to stick to my own aerobics tapes and exercise plans. They're a little more lively. For those who may find this too difficult, I would suggest water aerobics or the Walk Off the Pounds tapes. Those are also very simple, but much more effective. Yoga and Pilates are good, too, while low impact. :p

bunnyblues 05-22-2002 02:18 PM

I use a really mean trainer, Joy -- that's what keeps me going

Still working towards my May 31 mini-goal of 155! And hey, didja notice? 10 pounds down!

I am exhausted...I have been working so many hours....not only mentally exhausted but physically. I need a new job...

TOM is on the way out the door, so I am hoping when I weigh in Saturday I will be down.

10 lbs is awesome bunny! You are doing a wonderful job. Keep it up!!!!!

dianem1 05-23-2002 04:10 PM

Hey Bunny:
Great Job! 10 Pounds.
I have been behaving myself. Yesterday was a tough day I wanted stuff, but I fought it and I actually feel pretty good today.
Jibbelle you sound really beat. I hope today was a better day.
The weather here was great today, I hope we have a nice weekend. My husband turned 40 today and I am giving him a party on Sunday and I am hoping it does not rain.
How is the weekend going to be for everyone, I just want to have nice weekend without worrying about food, I just can't let it be so important and have a good time.
My niece is up gotta go.

This recipe is on the LA Weight Loss website:

Marinade:
- 1 tbsp. dark sesame oil
- 1/3 cup rice wine or dry sherry
- 1/3 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 3 tbsp. sugar free apricot preserves
- 2 tsp. hot-pepper sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1 tbsp. minced fresh ginger
- 2 scallions, trimmed and minced
- 1 tbsp. sesame seeds, toasted
- 1/2 tsp. Chinese five-spice powder (optional)

Chicken:
- 1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, cut into 1-inch squares
- 2 green peppers, cut into 1-inch squares

Marinade: Whisk oil, rice wine, soy, preserves, hot sauce, garlic, ginger, scallions, 1/2 tbsp. of the sesame seeds, and if using, five-spice powder, in medium-size bowl. Chicken: Add chicken and peppers to marinade. Cover; refrigerate 2 hours or overnight. Prepare outdoor grill with hot coals, or heat gas grill to hot, or heat oven broiler. Thread 6 oz. or 8 oz. chicken according to plan on metal skewer, alternating with 1/2 green pepper. Grill kabobs, turning once, 8 to 12 minutes or until cooked through. Arrange on platter and sprinkle top with remaining sesame seeds.

All is well here...just busy!

Diane-
It sounds as if you are doing well...keep it up. Hope you hubby has a wonderful birthday!!

Jibbelle 05-24-2002 05:53 PM

Tomorrow is weigh in!! *keeping fingers crossed*

anyone down this week???

bunnyblues 05-25-2002 06:53 PM

Hey that recipe sounds great!

Well, I went kayaking today instead of weighing in, so I'll let you guys know how I'm doing on Tuesday. Have a great weekend!

Jen

Jibbelle 05-26-2002 07:47 AM

I hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend!

I weighed in yesterday. I was down 0.4....the same 0.4 that I gained last week. I will take it though! It is s step in the right direction.

JoyUvette 05-26-2002 11:28 PM

I Cheated!

Well, all...

I am soooo disappointed in myself. I went to visit grandparents this weekend, and I ate two pieces of homemade chocolate cake. This is my second week on the program, and the first time I've cheated. I'm afraid to weigh in on Wednesday.

Keep me in your prayers.

Joy

Jibbelle 05-27-2002 08:03 AM

Grandma's chocolate cake...who could resist!! We all fall of the wagon time to time and climb right back on. :) You should be fine by wednesday, just watch your starch and drink plenty of water! Good luck!

dianem1 05-28-2002 10:38 AM

Hi Everyone:
I have not been on program for the last four days, so today I started the two-day take off and I am looking to reach my goal.
Joy don't be so hard on yourself we all have little slips, it is just important to get right back with it.
Jibbelle my husband party was really nice and it did not rain. I don't think he was suprised though. And I did not follow program.
I would hate to weigh in today. I decided not to go to the center so much I felt to much pressure trying to get there all of the time so I am trying to twice a week.
Jen I hope the kayaking was fun.
Have a great day
Diane

xYTx 05-28-2002 03:21 PM

whew!

OK, so the last week or so has been so hectic! Graduation's over, and I moved out of the dorm and into a co-habitation situation with my boyfriend. Even though things are great, it's pretty stressful to live with a sig. other for the first time! The good part about all of this is that I don't have to eat that awful dorm food anymore... I've started cooking for myself, and I dropped another pound. Unfortunately, during the time between graduation and now, I fell off the wagon a little. I didn't have internet access, so I even let fitday.com go :( awww. But I'm back on track now.

See? Everyone falls off the wagon. But we get right back up and try again. I just keep thinking about the way I used to binge and it comforts me to see I'm doing something about it. Even if I'm not having a "good body day."

I also haven't opened my breathesize tape. It appeared to be low (no-?) impact, and I need more than that to get my heart rate up. In fact, I started this "Power 90" exercise tape set today. It claims you'll be in the best shape of your life in 90 days. Well, regardless of the truth in that, it's a workout. And parts of it are pretty tough! I no longer have the school gym equipment to use, so it's running and aerobic tapes for me.

bunnyblues 05-28-2002 03:21 PM

Hi everybody! Kayaking was pretty fun. I wasn't *perfect* this weekend, but I think I did pretty good. I was down half a pound today, not as much as I wanted, but hopefull it's just TOM. Diane, I'm glad the party went well. I know you are going to get back on track.

In other news, I just went for a medication evaluation based on my therapist's recommendation, and have been prescribed Celexa. Unlike most of the anti-depression drugs, it seems to have little to no effect on weight, and helps control compulsivity, including eating, for when I'm tempted to slip up. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Good luck to everyone this week!

Jen

bunnyblues 05-29-2002 12:55 PM

Ok, never mind that. The Celexa drove me up the walls. I certainly didn't want to eat... or sleep... or anything that didn't involve me bouncing off the walls. Yikes.

Weigh In Successful

:)

Hello Everyone!

Well, I weighed in today, and lost only one pound. I would normally be disappointed, but I was happy to lose anything after the weekend with my grandmother. Cake, ice cream, french fries...I am just glad to be back on track.

That was good food, though
:D

FYI: TAKE OFF DRINK Recipe

This was sent to me by email:

L.A. WEIGHT LOSS "TAKE OFF" DRINK
Used to "jump start" the dieting/weight loss process…

Just follow this simple recipe to make this EXACT drink!

1. One Cup Papaya Juice

2. One Banana

3. One-Half Cup Green Tea, strongly brewed

4. One Scoop Soy Protein Powder w/ Spirulina

5. One-half Cup Blueberries "Can Be Frozen "

6. One-Fourth Cup Carrot Juice

7. One-Fourth Cup Apricot Juice

8. One-Half Cup Non-Fat Plain Yogurt

9. One Pack Sweet & Low

Blend all of the above ingredients together until smooth. Serve over ice. Recipe yields 2 servings. Drink every 3 hours or less (up to 6 times a day).

**** Try to use juices with no added sugar or corn syrups, as this is the key to losing quickly! ****

Supplement with unlimited raw vegetables and pure (dry) proteins:
§ Celery Sticks, Baby Carrots, Green Pepper Slices, Mushroom Slices, Cherry, Tomatoes, Shredded Lettuce, Yellow Squash Slices, etc.
§ Steak, Chicken, Eggs, Veal, Fish

**** Do not consume fried foods. Use as little seasonings and fat as possible. Nothing else is allowed. ****

Do this diet for ONLY 2 days, you can go 3...but no longer!! This is meant to jump start your weight loss or get off those pesky 5-10 pounds quickly. It is not meant to be continued after 3 days. It can, however, be repeated every 2 weeks or so.

bunnyblues 05-31-2002 01:26 PM

Just thought I'd check in. We found out this past Wednesday that my dad has a brain tumor (he had lung cancer last year but seemed to recover through Chemo). He's in surgery right now and I'm driving to Birmingham tonight. Hopefully, everything is gong great and I will be able to stay on track. Wish me luck, and take care of yourselves!

TakeOff Drink

Hi,
I just joined LA Weight Loss yesterday - today is my first day of the initial three-day plan. My concern is the TakeOff drink - will this make me sit on the toilet for the next three days? I haven't had it yet this morning - will do so when I get home from church. I'm just a little concerned because my job (court reporting) does not allow me to just run to the bathroom when I need to :o. I have an all-day hearing tomorrow, and although we usually take frequent breaks, I'm not sure what to expect with this drink.

Jibbelle 06-03-2002 08:00 AM

Bunny-

I am terribly sorry to hear about your father. You will both be in my thoughts and prayers.

My boyfriends mom is doing chemo now...she had breast cancer. In a couple weeks she will be doing radiation also. Thankfully she is doing great and a full recovery is expected.

Arvi-

Welcome to our little group! I never had any "bathroom" problems with the drink. Good luck with the take off! Let us know how you like the program and ask if you have any questions. I think between us, we can answer just about anything!

I cut my arm at work and have been on antibiotics. When I weighed in Saturday I was up to 240! She said it was probably water weight and when I went off the drugs I would go back down. I certainly hope so!!!!

We are planning on going on a float trip the weekend after July 4th, so I REALLY would like to drop a few more pounds. I need to go buy a new swimsuit, 50 lbs later mine are all about 3 sizes to big!

xYTx 06-03-2002 09:29 AM

...

To Arvi - Hi and welcome! These guys (gals) are great, and they've kept me motivated since I got here. I didn't experience bathroom troubles with TakeOff, but once I started drinking two liters of water a day, my body had to adjust to so much water in my system all the time. For a few days, I had to urinate more often than normal, but nothing uncomfortable. I don't notice it anymore, so I think my body got used to it.

To Bunnyblues - you and your family are in my thoughts. My mother is also going through treatment for cancer in her eye. At this point, the chemo and radiation is over, and we are waiting. I know how that can feel. All we can do is hope for the best for our loved ones and encourage them to be strong.

Well, I've had a good week or so. I've been relatively "on-plan," and I just passed the "20-pound" mark. Whew. I can't remember when I weighed this much before. My boyfriend is one of those skinny guys who can eat a horse and not gain a pound, and yesterday he bought a bunch of junk food. Twinkies and stuff. I was never a fan of twinkies, but he got CHOCOLATE ONES. Thank goodness I have my LA Lites. I think he's getting tired of eating lean proteins and veggies all the time. I wish I could find junk food that he loves and I hate... that way it wouldn't be "calling" me from the kitchen all day.

"YT!!!... come EAT us!! We taste so gooooooood!!"

bunnyblues 06-03-2002 04:40 PM

thanks all

Thanks everybody for your support. I wasn't perfect this weekend, but I wasn't awful, either. A small victory, I guess.

xYTx -- I wondered why I hadn't seen your graduation post -- it looks like we posted at the exact same second. Weird.

I am going to try the take-off recipe tomorrow and wednesday with a friend here at the office. I'm usually skeptical of those quickie things, but since xYTx has kept off the weight she lost on it weeks ago (congratulations, by the way, and pass the twinkies!), I'm willing to give it a try. And maybe do it again the weekend before my beach trip in July. I'm also going to increase my workouts -- still do the two hour-long sessions with the trainer each week, but add one more on my own over the weekend. And I haven't weighed in forever, but I promise to after I do take-off.

How's everyone else doing on the take-off thing? And is it hard to find papaya juice?

xYTx 06-03-2002 05:58 PM

takeoff

Remember to keep up the rest of the TakeOff diet if you decide to try the juice. Proteins are ok, carbs are not. No fruits, no breads, no sugar. They also told me that green vegetables are ok. Strangely enough, they said any kind of protein was ok. I had ground beef a couple of times during that weekend. I couldn't believe I lost that much on that silly juice. I'd like to do it again sometime, but I'm not sure it'll work again. I got the feeling that it flushed water out of your system or something. LA Weightloss gives it to people if they've been off-plan for a period of time. Whatever happens, let us know!! And good luck!

Arvi4 06-03-2002 06:35 PM

thanks

Thanks to everyone for your tips. Today is Day #2, and yes, I have had the Takeoff drink, and it's actually very good, and no, I haven't had to run to the bathroom. I'll be very glad to go to the center tomorrow, though, and get started with some more food choices. Green raw vegies and protein is just not doing it these past couple of days! I don't like raw vegies except for salads, so I've been eating salad and salad and more salad and chicken and more chicken. I may have zucchini cooked on my George Foreman grill with my chicken tonight - it may not be raw, but it's certainly fat free and has minimal calories - a salad just isn't going to do it tonight. I hope this gets better...:dizzy:
Thanks again,
Sue

bunnyblues 06-03-2002 10:49 PM

Joy, you have on your list that baby carrots are ok. Is everyone in consensus on this? I can't start tomorrow b/c I couldn't find the protein powder tonight, so it will be tomorrow or Thursday (I have to go out of town for biz on Wed, not sure how I can travel & do it).

xYTx 06-04-2002 09:49 AM

baby carrots

I wouldn't think they were ok. They're very sugary! On my plan, I can only have 1/4 a regular carrot for a vegetable serving, so I just don't eat them.

bunnyblues 06-04-2002 01:15 PM

Well poop about the carrots. By the way, I coudn't find the protein powder with spirulina last night, so I went to GNC today. He said that spirulina IS protein, so in case anyone didn't know, there you are.

Arvi4 06-04-2002 02:11 PM

I just came from the center - today is Day #3. I've lost 4.2 pounds on this "Takeoff" three day plan. That sounds great and I'm really excited, but I have a splitting headache and I'm rather nauseous. The counselor told me it may be from lack of sugar because I'm used to eating fruits, and for the past few days, I haven't had any. I definitely need more food choices. Tomorrow, I start with the purple "Ultra Express" plan for three more days. Still seems to be very limited, but at least, I have a few more choices and I can have some fruit. I'm also looking forward to my bars - I had a double chocolate bar at my initial consultation and was delightfully surprised at how good it was. For my "free" box, I selected the chocolate peanut butter.
Question - is there somewhere that these bars can be purchased for less money? I've checked out E-Bay, so I know I could place a bid there. I'm also wondering if one of the other bars on the market would be comparable. I have to decide how many bars, et cetera, that I want when I go to the center on Friday, and figuring out the price they want, even with the coupon, is outrageous!
Any hints or tips would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Sue

JoyUvette 06-05-2002 11:49 AM

Checking In

Great news about your 4.2 pound loss. I actually gained 3 pounds while on the Take Off because it was the wrong time of the month. Bummer! I did drop it quickly, though, during my first week of the plan.

Anyway, to answer the questions on the table...I don't know for sure about the baby carrots. I was told they were okay, but I don't eat carrots, so it didn't apply to me. I'd rather be safe than sorry, so if anyone was told different, I'd delete them.

As far as the bars are concerned, you can secure some good buys on E-bay. Also, some of the Slim Fast bars and protein bars at GNC are comparable as well, but be careful! I would take the box with me and do some shopping around. Make sure the percent distributions (carbohydrates, fat and sodium are most important) are comparable. The other bars you purchase probably won't taste as good though.

Looks like you're off to a great start on your plan. Good luck!

izzytolove 06-05-2002 03:34 PM

new at diet

Hi everyone I am new at LaDiet joined yesterday and just had some questions to ask yall. I am from Tn. also and have been doing low carb diets some and then finally went to WeightWatchers because i Need accountablity I dont diet well alone that was a mistakeeeeeee cause I did not lose and I at least lost inches before on low carb. So shrunk in size well I heard that the La diet touted low carb and had several diets to put you at your best. The problem is the center I joined is very evasive about what to expect. I was told that it was all natural and that could shop at the grocery store for most products and now they tell me after I joined about the products and etc they expect me to buy course i am waiting on you ladies to help me out with that. I just was floored about the drink I have not even tried that yet they have me on the jet something so I am doign that for few days My diet for 3 days does have oranges and that has helped some soooooo thanks for input and any help you can give me this is the only place I have found boards for LA. I did pay a lotttttttttt of money have about 55 pounds to lose :dizzy:

Arvi4 06-05-2002 04:38 PM

Izzy,
I'm also a new member, but I'll tell you what I know so far. I've done my first three days and have just started today on my second three days. The first three days with the juice, I found to be very tough. I didn't have the option to have an orange, and I don't like raw vegies (love them cooked), except for salad, so I ate salad and salad and more salad! Don't particularly care for beef, so I ate a lot of chicken. Fish is okay, but I'm not really a fish lover, either (unless it's fried!). I did lose 4.2 pounds, but I felt that I earned it! I really, really missed having some fruit and missed having something "snacky."
Anyway, these next three days look a little better. I'm still very limited, but I'm able to have 2 starches from a limited choice menu, I can have 3 fruits from a limited menu, and I can have two of the LA lite bars (I chose chocolate and peanut butter). I've had one bar this afternoon, and they're really good - also very expensive, so I'm looking for alternative bars. I'm also given a limited choice of protein (fish and chicken - no beef), and I can have 4 vegies and can have them cooked this time.
So far, I find the diet very limited, but I have high hopes that this will soon change. After all, with the limited choices available to me right now, I couldn't eat anywhere but home, and the ads claim that you'll be able to eat out and order from a restaurant menu, so I'll hold a good thought.
I have 65 pounds to lose - actually with my 4.2 loss, I have about 61 to lose. I agree with you that this was a LOT OF MONEY to spend on a diet plan, but if it works, it will be worth it in the end. I've been a WW member at least 12 times over the years, and although I think they have an excellent diet plan, I think I was actually given too many choices and had a hard time staying in control. It seems that I've gone from one extreme to the other right now, but like I said, hopefully, this too will change and I'll be able to have more of a variety.
Good luck on the plan and keep posting. I find that reading how others are doing keeps me on my toes and gives me that little boost that we all need so often.

izzytolove 06-05-2002 05:12 PM

more new things

thanks arvi for your reply. It helped me so much to hear from someone who just began. I feel kind of alone. this place just opened in our little city and I just didnt like the way they pushed some things at me at first but then this morning I went back in to ask more questions ( I am hearing impaired so one on one is better for me even though I fluently read lips) I just felt uncomfortable about some things I read about here. so maybe I did ok not having that drink lol. goshhh Ariv I have done them all and I want so much to get this weight off I am like you WW held too many choices I spent all my pts on icecream for instance I figured if I plunked down the money then I would stay with it and try to hit their goal because that would not mean paying anymore monies. I wont anywayyyyyyyy ha ha but the counselor told me that the diet was all natural and that supplements werent mandatory. However I feel they probably will say do this and that. If the candy bars are good I have some credit and will try those. I am going on trip next week just a short one and I figure that I can have fish and steak and salad. I will be glad to see a few more carbs. I dont mind raw veggies The veggies I love are starchy ones anywayyyyyy but would be nice to have abite of breaddddd ha ha. but I do seem to lose more on low carb and I have thickend waist and they now say that that does mean low glycemic is better for you. as to the way you hold your weight so I am down 3 pounds from Mon. but had done low carb since then too. Did they give you any free things>>>>> Did they give you samples to taste of things???? I was wondering. thanks for you input really appreciate it and we have about the same to lose so good luckkkkkkk and I will come here often for support and to help too if I can. Gosh I think I am thankful for the two oranges lol. see ya later:p :) :)

izzytolove 06-05-2002 05:37 PM

bad center

Arvie I just read back over the sight and see that you talk about a free box. I havent tasted a thing and I think I am in a bummer center. But now not sure what to do or to expect I sure hope they are not price gouging me. I am upset. But then I read that befoer I went and kept thinking that they would do something or maybe it was for later. soooooo i will ask about it thats for sure. So fill me in on the things like that that are going on. gosh yall this is not fair to pay the money and not get any perks all I got was a menographed piece of papper with diet. for 3 days that was it the endddddddddd makes me maddddddddd:mad:
