Default How many lbs

How many lbs, approx. does it take to go down a dress size? I'm assuming it's different for everyone. But can anyone give me an idea...or what they noticed for themselves?

thanks

I dont think that is true, it really depends on how you carry weight and how you lose it. I am *about* a size 10/12. Well I wear about a 10 at 160-180 so that is really 20lbs of safety in the same size. Granted this will also depend on the designer, and cut, style, ect......

Depends on how heavy you are when you are losing the weight. I lost 110 pounds and in the beginning it took FOREVER to go down a size, then towards the end, i was buying new sizes right and left.

But i would have to say for the *average* person on here, it is probably around 20 pounds. 10 pounds only if you are pretty close to goal.

Yeah, when I first started it took 30-35 pounds to go down a size, but now that I'm smaller, it's maybe 15 or so pounds (since maybe 215 pounds) I'm sure when I get ever smaller, the number decreases. If I *ever* lose the last 20 pounds, from others' experiences, I should be a 10, and I'm a 12 (in a dress, not in pants - 14), I should be an 8 in dresses, and a 10 in jeans. I'm pretty sure that's how I'll end up. I think the 10 pound gauge is only accurate when you are overweight. Obesity probably has its own rough guidelines.

For me it's always been an average of about 15-20 lbs, but I have heard the 10 lb thing as well. On the other hand I also know I've gone shopping and been shocked to find I actually should be wearing a smaller size so maybe it's closer to 15. I do think this is pretty individual depending on how you are built and the type of clothes.

The larger you are, the more weight between sizes. It took 25 pounds for me to drop a size from my highest weight.
Once I hit 195 or so, it has been about 1 size per 10 pounds.

also depends on whether you exercise for eg because changing your body shape could help you drop a dress size, through toning/firming/shaping etc although you may not have lost any or much weight at all because of building muscle (which in turn helps speed up your metabolism in the long run)

so don't get too focussed on pounds and kilos when it comes to dress sizes, it will vary on where you lose the weight from as well. hope that helps

As others have said, it's quite individualized . . . your best bet is measurements . . . a 2 inch loss in hip size will generally mean a size.

Thanks everyone. I was just confused...I've lost nearly 40lbs now and had to go dress shopping for my sisters wedding... well, turns out the size i'm in is bigger than what I used to wear 40lbs ago! ...must just be a weird sized dress. It was sort of depressing though. But then, on the other hand, I bought some jeans the other day a couple sizes smaller than I thought I'd need.

I want to lose like 10 more lbs by may 31 at least... then after I tackle that, I have about 50 to go :-S
