I haven't been following any kind of strict diet- just trying to eat lots of lean meats, fruits, veggies and whole grains. Every once and a while, when I don't have time, I grab a slim fast shake. So anyways... lately I have been feeling a little "blah". Just, not feeling like I have the energy I was looking for. The other night, the hubby and I were looking for something to eat. Well, I guess I had a certain feeling of "weakness" because we decided on out-of-the-box pancakes with a side of scrambled eggs. Now normally, I wouldn't eat pancakes while on this "diet"- especially the really over processed ones out of the box, like we had. But I was like, "eh, whatever, it's one meal and I worked out pretty hard today." So we had pancakes. I put a little honey and smart balance on them, and I really enjoyed them. Since then, I have been craving more of "those kinds" of carbs... white rice and bread and such. However, in the few days that I have been eating them (not too much, but like a serving a day)... I feel better. My energy is back, I feel a little lighter, and a little happier. I know bodies are unique: is it possible that my body needs a little bit of these types of carbs in my diet? Is it possible that I am weird and I actually thrive having these types of foods? Or is it a fluke thing and I should continue to avoid them?
You said you have been eating whole grains - you will get carbs from that. Maybe you haven't been getting enough. Carbs are key. You need them for energy, for working out, and for your brain. I would listen to your body = if you are feeling better, as long as you continue to lose weight and continue to eat a balanced diet, I don't think that I would personally worry too much.
