Default Questions on Whey Protien Powder

Okay, I have this Whey Protien powder that I started using when I was training my marathons. It is comparable some ways with the Slim Downs, Here are the comparisions, please share your thoughts. If anyone has access to the LA Dietician and wouldn't mind asking I'd appreciate it.

LA Slim Down Whey Protein Powder
Calories 270 Calories 140
Fat 6 Fat 2.5g
Choleterol 25mg Cholesterol 50mg
Sodium 290 mg Sodium 159mg
Potassium 790 mg Potassium 360 mg
Total Carbs 35g Total Carbs 5
Dietary Fiber 2 g Dietary Fiber 1 g
Protien 20 g Protien 25 g

Prior to LA I was using it more as a snack then a meal. I'm thinking maybe more milkshake like. Anyway's the points I'm trying to find out are. #1 Can I use it? 2nd how do I count it. It can be made with milk or water if that helps any...

Thanks in advance for all the help I know you guys are going to share! I'm so glad I found you.

Once upon a time I read that 1 scoop of whey protein powder would equal 1/2 Protein. You may want to PM Cassi (moderator). She used to have online access and may be able to check for you.

We used to have someone posting and when she worked out hard she'd have a protein shake/drink and not count it towards any of her exchanges. When she didn't work out, she didn't have the protein drink. Makes a lot of sense to me to do it this way, but I am no nutritionist!

How did your marathon go? I did one in Alaska in 1999 (walked/jogged for Leukemia). What an experience BUT never again!

I have the whey protein powder as well. Before I joined lawl I was working with a personal trainer who had suggested increasing my protein intake by using the whey powder protein.

I have asked my COD a couple of times how I can incorporate it in - as I have a big jar of it that is almost full and I don't want to waste it. I was told that I can't - as they have no idea of how to count it in. I had hoped to add a scoop to a smoothie, which I thought would make good breakfast material...I would have used 1/2 cup skim milk, 1/2 cup yogurt, 3/4 cup frozen mixed berries, and 1 scoop of protein powder - and I likely would have marked it as 1 dairy, 1 fruit, 1 protein.

If someone has access to the LA dietician and wouldn't mind asking, I would be very interested in the answer to this as well

Joni,
I didn't learn as quick as you! I have actually done 3 full marathons and 3 half marathons. (I am mostly a walker, I only jog down hill ) I have decided I am from here on out a half marathon girl! Right now I'm coaching for the American Stroke Association's Train To End Stroke, the next event I plan to participate in is Disneyland 1/2 Marathon in September. Did that one last year and it was a blast!

Thought I'd throw my two cents in here...

I did 5k's for a while (before DD was born), and I planned on training for a half marathon. On runnersworld.com, they have a training schedule for half and full marathons.

Snowdogs,
I'd love to help you! Are you runners or walkers? Are you currently running/walking? That will help me determine how long you should train. If you are currently running/walking on a regular basis you can generally train in about 14-16 weeks. You can also e-mail me directly if you like and I can send you some info that I [email protected]
