  • Since I've been on blue, I've been having an LA biscotti and a string cheese in the morning. But that's 'cause now I have to eat in the car, or on a break from school.

When not on the run (and I can eat breakfast at work), some Kashi, 1c Almond Breeze unsweetened, 3/4c frozen blueberries and 1pkt splenda. (S,1/2D,Fr)

Or 1 container Stonyfield Farm plain fat free yogurt (there is a difference when you're having it plan) and 3/4c frozen blueberries or 1c frozen rasperries (partially defrosted) and 1pkt splenda (D,Fr)

Alternative Bagel, toasted, w/1 wedge laughing cow cheese and some fruit (S,1/2D,Fr)
  • I'm the smoothie queen.. I use either milk or soy and count dairy or protein depending on the rest of the day I have planned food wise.. I add two fruit usually, I buy them flash freeze them and bag them in portion sizes.. favorites are blueberry and banana, strawberry and ojuice, or blackberry and strawberry.. I also use a 1/2 bagel with cream cheese, Kashi with milk or oatmeal.. I'm not a huge egg fan so find these all good options.. I'm on gold as well
  • I'm the queen of the quick breakfasts. When you go into work at 5:30 am, eating in the car is a must.

I personally need a starch to get up in the morning, otherwise I could go all day without eating any. I typically aim to do a half-protien or dairy and a fruit. My latest favorite has been triscuits or wheat thins with half a dairy's worth of cheese and an apple. It's easy food that I can munch on as I speed to work. I've also done a Special K waffle toasted with peanut butter on a regular basis. If it can be eaten with one hand, I've done it for breakfast over the last six months.

I did find that by 8 a I was starving most mornings. So now, I plan a fruit-starch exchage for that timeframe. Granted I'm at the point where I have 4 fruits a day, so squeezing in 2 before most of the normal world wakes up gives me two for later on in the day.
  • OK, I was going to start a new thread for these, but Kristen, what are some great recipes for smoothies? YOu just use milk and fruit? Do you add honey? I have bee using their smoothies and am getting a little sick of them... Thanks!
    Amy
  • Try the LA vanilla shake w/ 1/2c crushed canned pineapple and 1pkt splenda. I use 4oz water and 4 ice cubes. I actually bring my Magic Bullet blender to work and make it there. Yummy! Can do the same thing w/any kind of fruit. Counts as a lite and a fruit and is pretty filling.
  • You know, I often use a CC cereal option for breakfast.......but I half it......so it counts as 1/2 protein.......and then I also have an orange. It is quick, and yummy. It is also nice cuz it feels like a real well rounded breakfast. However, I do find I lose quicker if I eat hard boiled eggs for breakfast. I know......not super tasty.....but 1 1/2 eggs and an orange really tides you over.......and you can even add a slice of toast for a total of 1/2P, 1F, 1S. It always seems if I eat a real nutrient packed breakfast, I do better all day long It is worth taking the time for
  • I have never been a big breakfast eater so most days I eat light....Apple and String cheese or sometimes just a fruit. On days that I am really hungry I like to eat oatmeal or an alternative bagel. They really fill me up and I usually am to full to eat my snack before lunch.
  • So tell me about these alternative bagels. What are they and where do you find them? I've never heard of them before.........
  • Amy I make my own smoothies.. I never liked the LA ones. tasted too off for me. I'm on gold so I'll use 1 cup or skim or 1 cup soy and count towards either my dairy or my protein for the exchanges. I add a few ice cubes as well with some of them and have a few combos but really it's all up to you as to what you put in depending on what you like. I've also done half milk and half yogurt and use a flavored yogurt like raspberry or orange. And then add the follow fruit combos:

    1 cup raspberry + 1/2 mango
    1/2 cup Ojuice + 1/2 banana or 12 strawberries
    3/4 cup blueberries + 1/2 banana
Vanilla yogurt with some cold brewed coffee and ice for a mocha
Vanilla yogurt or plain yogurt with 1/2 banana, 1 tbsp SF chocolate syrup and Peanut Butter depending on your exchanges for me 2 tbsp is 1 P so I often use one tbsp as a half and use the other half at lunch or dinner.
You can add sweetener, honey, maple syrup just remember to count them in your condiments
  • I eat 1/2 cup of kasi go lean cereal with 1/2 cup of milk and a fruit

COD said the cereal is high in protein and to count it as 1/2 p, 1/2 D ,1 fruit

The protein keeps me full till noon which I like because I don't have time for mis morning snack
  • Danette - My COD told me not to have the Kashi Go Lean unless I'm doing a carb craver because it's only listed in the carb craver section in the book. (Of course that's after I finished the entire box .) I like your COD better! I LOVE my Kashi Go Lean.
  • Of course they said that! It's the only one that remotely doesn't taste like cardboard!!!
  • Can you have a whole alternative bagel for a starch? AND more importantly where can I find these yummy sounding things? LOL
  • Yes... what are alternative bagels??
  • Alternative Bagel is by Western Bagel Company. They are 110 calories and (I think) 7g fiber. They are a little smaller than a big bagel, but they are still a nice size. I get them at Publix (my grocery store). You can go to their website (westernbagel) and see if they sell them in your area, or you can order them, but you have to pay shipping.
