You know the ones I mean.
You are no Good, You are worthless. We look at ourselves in a mirror and the face looking back reinforces those very words. I am not worth the time to take care of myself. I need to take care of others before I even think to bother with me. I'll do that tomorrow, I can wait.I'm too tired. You are fat, you are ugly, you could be........... if only. This form of self betrayal does not for many of us go just because we lost the weight. Many have been tortured with these voices for so long that what we think causes it is just a symptom of our true affliction. Self hate, self loathing, self disgust. We guilt ourselves into feeling so bad about even the smallest things. We surround ourselves with like people or those who enjoy hurting us in the same fashion as we ourselves hurt us. No, I have not forgotten those of you who feel this way and are so good at hiding it that no one including you realizes that this is even going on inside of your mind. We have years of this sort of behavior to erase from our souls. But I am here to inform you that we have one weapon that is stronger then words. Actions, I am sure we all have heard this actions speak louder than words. They really do. Those horrible nasty thoughts are killing us ever so quietly. We are going to reverse the roles and quietly and permenantly kill those awful horrible thoughts. Take a few minutes every day to act on taking care of you. 5, 10, 15, however long you have. But make it all about you. Then I want you to talk to yourself, out loud take one negative thought and find it's opposite and repeat it a few times. You will not believe it not yet but soon. Instead of I hate the way I look, I love the way I look! Instead of where did the time go I did not get anything done I'm just not good at ...... Tell yourself about what you did do today, I bet the list is long and full of things you take for granted. We often for get about all the little things we do every single day. I hate myself needs to be replaced with I love myself. You get the picture. But the actions need to go along with all of these words. Treat yourself to a real break when you have acknowledged how much you have actually accomplished today. Wear some thing that really makes you feel more attractive. Do something for yourself that truely makes you feel loved. Replace every negative thought that you have today with a positive one. Take the same moment that it took to think that negative thought and turn it around. You will feel better at the end of the day and who knows you just might love yourself a tiny tiny bit more than you did at the beginning of this day. When our attitudes change so can so many wonderful things around us. And smile for no reason at all. Not only will you feel a little better but it might even be contagious.
