another Lousiana update

  • I have to agree with this e-mail you forwarded. Dennis and I have been volunteering at the local camp and find the majority of the victims to be appreciative and basically nice to be around. Yet there is a handful who ***** about the food, whine that they are bored and that relief money is too slow in coming. We have met some incredible people, heros and optomists. How would I face being homeless, without a job, pregnant and three kids in tow? This family is remarkable in just getting the family unit out whole. There are two early 20 year olds we are treating for injuries sustained while saving others from drowning. People are the same the world over and scum is scum. That will never change. The majority of those we are working with are optomistic and anxious to start over. If I was in their situations I would probably crawl under a rock and quit breathing. New Orleans is a scary town full of scary people. When we visited there we were told not to leave the main street in the French Quarter by a tour guide as you will get robbed, raped and probably killed. He did not mince words to make the city look good. (Interestingly he said he was a vampire!) I do agree that the news media is creating a problem this country is not prepared to face right now. I am glad I am not the president! George is going to take a real bang on this one. I guess the media has ignored the fact that somene can be poor but posses some sense of morality which does not move them to rape 13 year olds, steal from the elderly and have their hands out for the "monetary relief" they have earned from years of welfare and unemployment. Hey, maybe we should take the media, drown them in New Orleans' poisonous "gumbo" flood waters and then we wouldn't have to listen to their B.S. And why should we be allowed to view on national television the recovery of corpses from the flood waters? (Maybe dignity for the dead and consideration for the families of those who have lost their loved ones is now inappropriate in America.)
Maybe Americans need to get their head out of their butts and stop this crap. Maybe the displaced gangsters need to be stopped now. I still believe there are more good folks in this world than bad. We just need to stop giving all of our attention to the scum.
