I need a change..............

  • Ok ladies, this is TOTALLY OFF the wl subject but I need and want a change with my hair. I was thinking of getting it highlighted but I hae never done it and wouldn't know where to start, what color or what to tell the person doing it so here is a full picture of head so give me your thoughts and opinions!! I love Anita's hair color too! Don't worry about hurtting my feelings or anything. I NEED advice and thoughts on what to do.

  • Laurie,

Thank you for the compliment!! I have my hair lightened and highlighted! LOL. My natural color is dark brown. Highlighting is VERY expensive so keep that in mind. You can go to a hairdresser for a consultation. See what they say. Go to several different ones. They should do it for free.

I think highlights would look good on you. You can do darker highlights so it is very subtle or lighter ones like mine. I would definately go to a consult!!
  • I agree with Anita! Laurie you would look great with highlights!!

I have been highlighting/ coloring my hair for about 8 years now. My natural color is medium to light brown. Right now I get high light and low lights put in. This helps a bit with regrowth, so I don't have such dark roots! It is really expensice, so i am considering getting it colored back to my natural color until I find a new job.

Make sure you post a picture after you get it done!!!

  • ok, what are the difference between high lights and low lights?
  • low lights are just darker colors. So I get really light blond highlights, and low lights that are medium brown, my natural color.
  • A friend of mine suggested some carmel highlights for the color.
  • Change can be fun!! I do the highlights and lowlights too. My hair is probably totally gray by now. I have colored my hair for about 15 years. It is normallly very dark brown.

Anita is right -you need to find a stylist that specializes in color. My hair tends to get really brassy and I finally found a stylist that does wonderful color. However, I am not real crazy about the way she cuts my hair. I have really thick coarse hair.

Have fun with it - check around. If you see someone who's hair you like, ask them where they go. That is how i found my stylist.
  • i think it would look great on you. i get red highlights to give my hair more of an auburn color. it's fun to experiment and it always grows back.
  • Laurie you should do carmels! But in highlights and not chuncky either. I think on you you want something natural. Yes they can be expensive and keep in mind that you have to KEEP THEM UP with hair growth that can be ALOT of time soent in the salon and $ out of your budget. DO not go and do it out of a box. The chemicals from the boxes - over the counter- actually damage the hair. I know that is stupid - but you pay for what you get. I think you should Angle the hair from your bangs to your shoulders. Like layers only in the front. I "think" its called framing the face or something. This would give your face a more sliming effect. Think Goldie Hawn or Jennifer Anistan with thier hair straight it always layers abit in front framing and slenderizing thier features. Look at catalogs and magazines and note what you want. Do not go to the salon and say I dont know what I want for sure do what you think is best. That gives them the oppurtunity to be "creative" and since they do this for a living they want to do something different. That makes you come out with whatever creative color/ cut they felt like. I did that once and it was aweful!!!!!

Also think about this: If you dont like it you have to pay even more to get it fixed yuck! Start simple- change the cut a bit and then go from there with some soft highlights. You could add auburn and carmel and that would be GORGEOUS! Especailly with your natural coming through!

If you highlight ONLY highlight the top not throughout your entire hair!!! TOO pricy for someone who just wants to change and see how it looks. I dont like that anyways you can hardly tell the bottom is done unless you pull it up and look through it.

    There's my advise. Love ya!
  • Oh and by the way I've done it all and last March went in for correction color to try for my natural back. - sick of paying and feeling "dry" hair.

  • I had the layered look angeled down to my face and didnt' like it so I have just recently let all my layers grow out.
  • Anyway you look at it Laurie, the only difference between a good haircut to a bad is about a month and a half!
