Default New to the forum

I've only been on the diet for a week and am looking for support. Fortunately my husband is doing the diet with me which makes it a lot easier. Unfortunately we eat out regularly because we are empty nesters and we are having a hard time adjusting to eating in all the time except for McDonald's. Does anyone have any ideas for eating out besides the places listed in the 3hour book?

Hi Mimi!

Welcome to the board! I'm also a newbie -2nd day on plan, and 2nd day on the boards. I don't have any advise on eating out...that is also my down fall. I live with my fiancee and it is only the two of us and before I started dieting this year, we were eating out just about every other night because I didn't know how to cook for 2!

I look forward to getting to know you!

Hi Mimi,

Welcome to the group!!!! Eating out is so hard!!! Basically you need to order the grilled foods with not much fatty sauce and the veggies. Don't eat the breads, pastas, etc.

Hi Mimi, Welcome....I live in Florida also.....on the east coast 45miles north of W. Palm.

Eating out is a problem so try to eat in as much as possible, better control. Anita is correct on grilled meats and veggies. NO BREAD ask them not to bring it. Don't order sauces, butter, etc. Salad with low fat dressing or vineger and oil works (on the side).

Others here will have lots of ideas I'm sure.....if you go off program, get right back on is the advise given.

Again, welcome and you'll love this group.....Phyllis

Eating out tips -

Order large glass of ice water as soon as you sit down & keep getting it refilled.

Order chicken or fish & lots of veggies.

Order salad with dressing on the side - then, dip your fork in the dressing as you eat your salad. You will be amazed at how little dressing you use this way.

Before you enter restaurant, promise yourself no bread, no rice/potatoes/pasta, and no desert.

Have fun.

Welcome Mimi, Tina and Wendy:

It's great to have you join us. Eating out is hard. If it's just my family eating out (not friends) I ask them not to bring the bread basket. If my kids will complain then I just tell the waiter to bring 2 pieces of bread for them to eat. Then I always order water w/ lemon to drink. Then I order grilled foods and a salad. If I'm not having a carb w/ the meal, then I will ask the waiter to bring me one piece of bread. I also ask for a to go box so I can split the meat in half and put in the box to take home.
