Default Hello :)

Hi, I'm not sure where to start so here goes.

I'm a 28 year old mother of two.
While pregnant with my youngest I had issues with my thyroid. I was unmedicated for 12 months in order to safely breastfeed but a year later, it had corrected it's self and returned to normal function but left me with a lot of extra weight.

Over the years I have tried weight watchers, calorie counting, C25K and generally watching what I eat but the weight is super stubborn and I lose motivation.

Currently I am on a 1200 calorie clean eating diet with 30 minutes of cardio a day. I have been prescribed 30mg Duromine/Phentermine but have managed to gain 5lbs in 12 days! Why...I have no idea. I've eliminated white bread, pasta, flour, refined sugar. The duromine is doing zilch, I have 0 side effects despite it being from a reputable pharmacy at $100 a month.

Anyway, I thought it would be helpful to have some support and encouragement, especially for those in the same boat as me.

Welcome! It sounds like you're doing all the right things!

My weight-loss is stubborn, too, but mostly because I'm a lot older. Being healthy is my first priority and I feel so much better now.

Best wishes!

Thank you for the welcome I think I'm going to ditch the duromine, it feels better to know that I've kicked the 7lbs I've lost on my own anyway.

Hi Paisleymama! It's great to have you here! Clean eating, low carbs, and 1200 calories sounds like a plan for success. Keep at it and good luck!

Hello! I don't know about the effects of thyroid medication (or any medication, actually), but I do know that large calorie deficit combined with cardio can put too much stress on the body which will prevent/stall weight loss and putting on weight is not out of the question either. How intense is your cardio? Could you up your calories a bit even for a week or two to see if it helps?

Thank you for the welcome
At the moment my exercise isn't too intense as I worry I'll burn out & fail.
I've had the odd 1300 and 1400 cal day here and there & I find I lose more the day after but I don't think with my daily level of activity (sedentary) I can do much over. I've adjusted my goal to 1260 and it's ok if I go a little over, so long as it's something GOOD pushing me over, not junk.

OK! That's good. You know it also isn't terribly bad to have one day here and there when you eat at maintenance level, which for you would be I guess around 2200kcal or so? Add a bit of starchy veggies for that day, or rice if that's not a triggering food for you. It would be good for your hormone levels. You could try it. Since it would be at maintenance, you'll not gain any fat. Weight maybe, but it would just be water weight.

Thanks, I'll give it a go. I'm not a huge fan of rice, I can take it or leave it so it's no big deal to me to throw it in for a meal here and there. If we were talking potatoes, that'd be a whole 'nother story
