Another Newbie

  • Hi everyone!

My weight has been a constant struggle, we're talking all my life here. I've tried...and tried...and so on WW, Dr. Phil, South Beach, etc. been there done that. WW is the only thing I've had any major success on, but it was a limited amount of time. I lost about 40 lbs. and plateaued and lost my motivation. Of the 40, I've gained about half of it back. I don't want anymore of it back. I'm starting a new teaching job in September and want to be able to do more things with my students, plus hubby and I have decided to take a cruise next summer for our 5th wedding anniversary.

So...I need help you guys! Should I go back on WW? Is there something else out there anyone can suggest? I've got over 100 lbs. to loose, and I know it ain't happening overnight much as I'd like it to.

    Thanks

    Kim
  • Hi Kim. I have have struggled with weight all my life too and I, too, need to lose at least 100 pounds. I think WW is a good plan. I think the best part about WW is writing down what you eat...that's what helps me the most. Any diet plan will work for you if you can stick with it in the long term - that's the hard part.

By the way, I am a teacher, too. I teacher Special Education now, but in the past I have also taught middle school and high school English.
  • Hey, fellow teachers! Kat, I posted a reply to you in another thread (I'm the fellow Virginian!) I teach high school English. I'm about to start my 2nd year of full-time teaching (I did lots of icky corporate stuff before that). I hate being the "fat" teacher, especially because my VERY fit husband teaches and coaches track at the same school. I know those kids are wondering what he's doing with such an unfit wife! I just started back on WW (but not going to the meetings) and I too need to lose over 100 pounds. Let's be buddies on the way to becoming thin and healthy teachers! Shall we? I'm starting to realize I need all the support I can get.
  • Hi Kat

Katt in NZ here ... on Saturday I started my weight loss goal, Ive joined Jenny Craig, it worked for me years ago, but I left it before I got to the goal weight for personal reasons. I didnt really put on any weight until I gave up smoking .. then inch by inch the pounds piled on. I visited my mum the other week and she took a photo of me with my 2 youngest nephews who I hadnt met and I HATED the photo, I looked soooo big next to these little guys. When my hunny said he needed to lose weight too I instantly said JC! So I signed back up with them and had my first "new day" on Saturday.

I didnt realise how unfit I was until I had set myself a goal of 20 min a day on the fitness flyer (which had been gathering dust in the garage lol), today I barely made it to 5 minutes before my legs were screaming in agony and my breathing was overworking, sooo have set myself something a little more managable .. start at that 5 min and add a little each day or so.

My goal is to hit this first target of 100 (which is about 90 pounds), but my ultimate goal is to get down to about 90kg ... when I look at those figures I think . OMG .. that is a whole person Im wanting to lose ... definitely seems daunting doesnt it??

If anyone wants a buddy added to thier list I more than happy to volunteer, although I have my hunny doing the JC thing too, he is only home on the weekends, and my daughter is great too, but would be nice to talk to others that have similar goals and issues.

Hope you have a great day and week all
