College Student

  • Hi Everyone!
    My name is Alex. I am a college sophomore with a chemical engineering major. Because of all the hard classes and being lazy and in a totally new place far away from my parents, I basically gained a lot of weight last year. Right now, I am 145 lbs, would love to get down to 118 before I go home for the summer. So, I have around 2 months to drop 27 lbs. I think I can do it, but I've done the fad diets before, and it's kind of hard to find a right balance in the eating aspect. I used to run track and not have to worry about losing weight because I would burn pretty much everything off in the 3 hrs of practice we would have everyday. But, right now, I feel myself losing energy and not being able to get back on track. Right now, spring break is starting and it will last a week. So, I hope to get back to exercising and eating right, and giving up those late night binges. So, I really think a buddy would help in reaching our goals. If anyone is in the same situation, please respond. Much appreciated.

    I feel your pain, i did the same thing when i was in college...went from 117-145. I was finally able to loose it thru WW. I understand your desire to be skinny when you go home, but 27 lbs in 2 months seems like alot. Do you follow any plan? I have found WW to be healthy and it works. Plus you can still eat, and live a college life while doing it. How tall are you?
  • I know that 27 is a little big to lose before I go home, so I might just shoot for 130 first, and see how it goes. I am 5'5" but I always used to weigh 118-120 because of track, so I don't think that's too skinny. I mean, that's what I always felt good at. I am not following any plan at the moment, I just want to stop eating junk and substitute veggies and fruit for it instead. I also like using the treadmill. I would love to buy a pedometer but don't have much money. Any ideas of a pedometer that's cheap but effective? Also, I'd like to start pilates, but I don't know which DVD is best for weight loss.     That sounds like a good idea. I know in the past, when i have set a pretty big goal for myself in a short period of time, i would get frustrated if i started stumbling and then falter. Sometimes it is better to set smaller, more attainable goals. Or maybe dont even think about your total goal, just set a goal of 2lbs per week (which would bring you pretty close). You sound like you are phisically in good shape, so all you have to work on is your eating, which i remember can be hard in college. Just keep trying.
