Smile New!! Need some shopping help

Hi New Here and just trying to find some help with food shopping. What are some things that I should add to my list for healthy meals. I am just starting the diet, so I want to get things that I can use for several meals without spending a fortune. Thanks for your help and support!

Hi, Colleen!

Is there a specific "diet" you are trying to follow? Or just healthy, lower-calorie eating? I know that if you are following South Beach, the forum has a thread with shopping lists, recipies, etc. Other specific diets may also have threads with grocery lists.

If you are just doing the healthy low calorie thing, try for lots of fruits and vegetables. IMO, canned or frozen veggies are practically as good as fresh and won't go bad. (That being said, I HATE canned veggies ) But if you buy canned fruit, be sure to not get the kinds packed in syrup. Salads are always good and you can put different things in them.

Try things you wouldn't ordinarily eat - try to get a variety, then you won't get bored.

You can buy chicken breasts in bulk at the store for a good price - skin them as soon as you get home and keep the extras in the freezer.

Some good breakfast foods are Eggs or Egg Beater/Egg White with a slice of canadian bacon and a slice of cheese; fat-free yogurt with fruit; steel-grain oatmeal with fruit.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Others with more knowledge will probably be along as well! (FYI, i am usually not online on the weekend - but i will eventually respond)
