Newbie Needs A Wholelottahelp!

  • Hi, I'm new to the site and the weight loss challenge. I don't own a scale and used one at my Grandma's the other day and OMYGOD! I was 180lbs. I'm 5'4"... I work with a bunch of sugaraholics who think it's OK to be big. I feel so unhealthy. I want to be able to keep up with my VERY active 5 year old. I feel like such a hypocrite when I sign her up for swimming, gymnastics and soccer and then don't do anything for myself. HELP ME PLEASE. I have a plan, sort of. I want to buy a bicycle but worry I won't use it. I need to set a walking goal that I can reward myself with this bike. Should I go for a weight goal or amount walked goal? I am on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Anyone near me? Hope to hear from someone soon. I need to know someone is on my side. Thanks.
  • Hi!
I'm new as well, can't get on everyday but have been helped a lot just by reading other people's info. I used to live in Whidbey Island Washington. It's gorgeous up there, so at least if you walk you'll have beautiful surroundings. I completely understand about the work situation, it's one of my big battles too. I'm a nurse on the night shift and every shift there is a crazy amount of sugar/chips to be had. They get hard to resist once I'm tired. Good luck, and let me know if you hear any good ideas for learning to ignore not so nutritious food.
  • I'd suggest just buying the bike now and getting out on it If you want to use it as a reward though, I'd suggest going by miles walked. I think it's always better to reward behavior rather than the capriciousness of the scale

I'm in your general neighborhood btw, I'm over in Kitsap County
  • Hi Gals,
I too am here in Washington. I am 32, 5-4 and single and in the Fairwood area (South King County - also known as Renton/Maple Valley Kent border).. I am so unhappy that I have let myself get to the weight I have. I am slowly trying to get the energy to start exercising again. Right now just trying to get thru the day. Best wishes to us all.
