Any Slim Fast Dieters out there?

Hi

I started Slim Fast a month ago and have found it to be a pretty good plan. The shakes and bars are tasty and they have incorporated combination meals for breakfast and lunch so you are not just drinking 2 shakes a day and eating a sensible dinner. My weight loss hasn't been as fast as I would like (7 pounds in a month) but I feel better, I'm not starving myself, I know I am eating healthier and it takes a lot less to fill me up now.

I want to lose about 90 more pounds with short term goals along the way. I am new to the site and I'm posting to see if anyone is interested in taking the journey with me and supporting each other along the way.

I look forward to meeting new friends ;)

Hi Karey! I actually had my first slim fast shake yesterday. I froze it and then ate it like ice cream once it defrosted a little bit. I bought the Lo Carb Cappucino ones. I think next time I'll try the vanilla or chocolate as the coffee ones are a little strong and I'm not a huge coffee fan. I was actually surprised at how tastey it was. I haven't tried the bars yet though.

I just started my weight loss plan yesterday. I am doing CURVES diet and exercise plan at home. I bought the book at TARGET for $9 and it seems very informative. I have a thread on Buddy Up called 30 with 30 to loose, if your interested in posting there, be my quest. Anyway keep up the good work on your loss!

Hi Karey!

The Slim Fast plan is healthy and a great way to start. It is a plan geared really toward calorie management. Make sure you check out their free web site! You have access to an online weight tracker, personalized diet plan, food diaries, and exercise diaries!

I have been drinking slim fast on and off for a few years, and it really helps you stay within those daily calories!

Good Luck!

KaitlynsMommy04 05-17-2005 11:36 AM

Thanks guys! I have been using the Slim Fast website since day one. It does everything for you, if you take the time to input what you eat on a daily basis. If I saw more SlimFasters on these boards I would start a SF club but I haven't seen many. Let me know if you guys would be inerested in our own section. Happy losing :cp:

RJ'sgirl 05-17-2005 01:34 PM

Karey- I would love to be apart of a club.

I just got back from walmart and tried to buy some of the slim fast bars and of course the ones I wanted were gone- story of my life. I ended up getting the Atkins brand instead only because I have a taste for cinnamon right now. I wanted the slimfast cinnamon bun bars badly. Why does it have to be so hard being an over weight women? If I eat one bad thing I blow up, my husband eats ten bad things and doesn't gain a pound. This stinks!!! LOL!

Hi Karey,

I have used the Slim Fast shakes on and off but stopped recently because of the carbs (yes, I got confused and ran :) ). Do you use the regular shakes or the low carb ones? And what's with this new plan where you can eat some food with the shakes? I'll have to check out the website I guess. That was one of my biggest problems was eating only a shake at lunch. I didn't feel satisfied and I was hungry in 2 hours.

huskzoo 05-19-2005 06:18 PM

Great!

Hi Karey! I just got done putting together my profile and am excited to be on 3FC! When I was in college, I swore by slim fast. Maybe it's time to go back to what I know works. I bought a couple of the lower sugar bars for the first time on Monday and I have only tried two of them, but I was happy with them. I was thinking about starting that again because it was just a no brainer, didn't have to think too much about how much or how often or anything, plus money is an issure for me. I am interested in this slim fast club if you start it, let me know!
;)

KaitlynsMommy04 05-19-2005 10:46 PM

Hi Girls

Slim Fast has definately come a long way! They have the old style products along with an Optima line which has a lot less sugar and a Low Carb line. I personally use the Optima products. I can't stick to anything low carb. I find it too restricting and than when you eat a grain of rice you blow up.

Another change is that you don't only get a shake or bar for breakfast and lunch and then a sensible dinner. they now have Slim Fast combination meals which are a Slim Fast product (shake, bar, smoothie) along with about 150 calorie add on. For example breakfast can be a Slim Fast shake and a piece of whole wheat toast topped with 1 tbsp reduced fat peanut butter, or 1/2 english muffin with 1 tsp of margrine and 1 tsp fruit spread. Lunch can be a Slim Fast meal replacement bar and1/2 a turkey sandwich, a mini pizza, or a goat cheese salad. You again have a sensible 500-700 calorie dinner and snacks in between. So you actually don't feel deprived.

The Slim Fast website is great. You can do so much with it. You can chart your weight lose progress, get weekly meal plans, and track evry bite you put in your mouth and it will analize it all for you. I have been using it religiously. It really keeps you on top of what you've been eating. They also recommend 30 minutes of daily exercise. I know it's difficult but it really helps get the results you're looking for. In the beginning I stayed the same for 2 weeks in a row. When I stepped up the exercise I started seeing and feeling the difference.

The best advice I can give is take it one day at a time. Set short term goals for yourself. Drink pleanty of water. Don'tbeat yourself up if you slip up, tomorrow is another day. Even if the weight is slow coming off, it's still coming off!!!! :cheer:

shyangel 05-20-2005 10:33 AM

I took a look at the website and signed up, now I just need to take some time to really see what they have to offer. I am going to buy some of the shakes and bars after work today. I would be interested in joining a Slim Fast group if you started one.

Bev 05-26-2005 06:13 PM

I am thinking of trying slimfast, how is everyone doing on the plan.

gingerjen 05-26-2005 06:59 PM

Hello everyone,
I started the slimfast diet yesterday. I am hoping that this works for me. I have heard some really good things, but then I have heard some undesirable things as well. I decided to give it a shot and decide for myself. I am going the optima route, I dont' want to go no carb because then I have to give up too many of the foods I love, I just need to learn to eat my favorites in moderation. If you decide to do a slimfast club count me in. I am looking for support, and I can't cheat on my diet if I have to fess up to what I am eating. Good luck to everyone.
Jen

Wow. Looks like there are a lot of us Slim Fasters out there. I have been on and off it and am currently on it. I eat a 150 cal. yogurt for breakfast, a Slim Fast Shake at Lunch, an apple in late afternoon and a Lean Cuisine at dinner with a glass of wine (Aero - I have the same problem with wine - it helps me eat more slowly and feel like I'm having an elegant dinner - trouble is, I often go for the second glass. ). I'm not much of a cook and have problems with portion control so this helps. Sometimes this is not enough so I add something at lunch. I had a half bagel with cream cheese today. Sometimes I have a piece of fruit. I don't mind the taste, just wish they had more flavor varieties. I'm diabetic and should be cutting down on sugar so I have been using the Optima shakes. The current diet plans on their website recommends sandwiches or mini pizzas with the shakes. Frankly, that's too much food and I'm trying to avoid sandwiches for lunch.

TheNewChristy 05-27-2005 08:31 AM

I would love to get on the Slim Fast plan and have tried it before, but I find it REALLY hard to stick to. For one thing, I really DON'T like the taste...I can handle the milk chocolate ones, but only if they're VERY cold. This brings up the problem of getting bored with the food. I tried a couple of the bars a few years ago and they were NASTY--very dry and bitter. Have they gotten better? Also, it gives me heartburn! :( The final problem is, it doesn't fill me up at all...then when I finally do get to the "real food" part I overdo it. Any advice for how to get on the plan and actually stick with it?? I think it would probably work if I could just stay on track...

shyangel 05-27-2005 10:33 AM

I started the Slim Fast plan again by introducing the shakes and some of the bars. I definitely like the plan better now that they encourage eating an extra 150 calories at breakfast and lunch. I think this is important because a shake alone is NOT enough. It also lets you feel like you've really eaten. I have cereal for breakfast so I don't have two shakes a day - helps with the boredom. I tried the chocolate chip granola meal bars and liked them. I'm still looking for the muffin bars.

If the plan does nothing else for me, at least I don't have to waste a lot of time thinking about what to eat for lunch. :)

rosettastone - how do you survive on so little food? It doesn't even seem like you eat 1,000 calories a day. I'm not counting the wine (don't know how many cals in wine). If I eat that little I get really hungry and sometimes get low blood sugar issues. Does it just take time to get used to less food?

KaitlynsMommy04 05-27-2005 11:30 AM

Hi all :D

FatChristy~I hated writing that~The program has changed a lot in the past couple of years. I don't know if you saw my post in this thread talking about the changes. Check it out, I'm just talking about how they've added food to the plan.

Shyangel~I found the Muffin bars in Target and Shop Rite. Hopefully you have access to one of these stores. The Banana Nut Muffin bar is awesome!

Rosettastone~I agree with shyangel. It sounds like you might not be eating enough food daily. Try to add some veggies during the day or have the Slim Fast Snack Bars. Eating too little won't take the weight off either.

I encourage everyone to check out the Slim Fast website. It tells you basically exactly what you should do. It can tell you your optimum calorie intake for your weight and height. You can log your food, water, and exercise daily. It's a great tool.

Again, I'm not going to lie, the weight doesn't fall off like people say it does on Atkins...BUT IT COMES OFF!!! Also, supposedly, the slower it comes off the better. I find that once in a while I'm hungry but in general...I feel satisfied. I eat around 1500 calories a day and try (I stress try) to walk 30 minutes a day. Between the two Slim Fast Combination Meals (a Slim Fast product & 150 calories by adding what you'd like to eat as long as its on track) the sensible dinner and 2 snacks I am rarely looking for something else to eat. I am in my 7th week and I truly think my stomach has shrunk. What I used to eat to fill me up is too much now.

I've lost 10 pounds so far. Of course I'd like it to be more. I'd like to lose 10 pounds a month but it's not going to always be that simple. I lost 6 pounds the first week and than stayed the same for 2 weeks. Then I lost 1 pound. Then I lost another 3. This week I stayed the same. But overall, it's still 10 pounds lost! If it takes me longer than I had planned to reach my goal, that's fine. It's better than carrying the weight around and not losing like I have for 15 or so years!

Hopefully I answered some questions. Keep up the good work. WE CAN DO THIS! :cb:

Hi Ladies..
IM doing slim fast.. pretty much..
watching carbs kinda too.
i been losing like 5 pounds a month. Very slow.. yes i know thats the way things should go. .but now it seems to stop.. i gained a pound...
I did start working out..

I was drinking 1 shake breakfast..
1 bar snack
and then regualr lunch and dinner, thinking about starting 2 shakes a day..
just until vacation.

Trying to make my vacation goal of now 8 pounds more. cause i gained a pound back.. Vacation is in 5 weeks.. do you think i could lose 8 pounds in 5 weeks if i started 2 shakes on this tuesday? 30 days 8 lbs?

Thanks for reading?

shyangel 05-27-2005 11:41 AM

Karey - I'll have to check at different Target stores. The first one didn't have the muffin bars and only one type of snack bar. Yesterday I had a meal bar as a snack (I knew dinner would be really late) and I'm sure it's just too much. If you can add a little more exercise and some with a slightly higher intensity (power walk, elliptical machine, aeorbics, dance, etc.) I bet you'll lose weight faster. I know food alone doesn't do it for me at all.

Since we have some interest in a Slim Fast support group, where do you think the best location would be?

ameg - Can you provide a little more info? The impact of changing to two shakes will depend on what your 'normal' lunch is, how much you workout and what your current weight is. 8 pounds in 5 weeks is definitely possible.

Friday 05-31-2005 08:38 AM

I started back on slim fast today..
I need to drop 8 pounds b4 vacation.. which is in 4 weeks 2 days!
whoo whoo...

im doing 2 shakes a day. .and 2 snacks.. and a light dinner..
Light dinner will be anything from. a Weight watchers dinner or
a bowl of soup...NO bread..
I still have at least 40 more pounds to lose. but my mini vacation goal is 8 more pounds that will bring me to a minus loss of 23 pounds since March.

hows everyone doing?
and im drinking a LOT of water, like a gallon a day..
And keeping calories not over 1200...
Would love to hear everyone stories..

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All,

I am new to this site. I thought I would reply to the slimfast diet. I started the plan about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I love it! I am using the Optima shakes and bars. I have lost 6 1/2 lbs so far. My goal is to lose a total of 75. I had always been thin growing up and then when I meet my boyfriend (now husband) I had started gaining weight. Then last year I got pregant and had my baby in September. I had gained 50 pounds during pregnacy but lost 30 right away. I got into a bad slump then one day I looked into the mirror and said out loud "I AM FAT!" From then on I started dieting and walking. This was back in March. I slipped into another bad slump until a few weeks ago. So I went out and bought a treadmill and some slimfast. I walk everyday and sometimes even twice a day. My husband thinks I should be taking a day for my muscles to recover so I plan on doing that now. So my goal is to have lost 50 pounds by my daughter's first birthday- 9/14/05 and then the remaing 25 by Christmas. I also have another goal- once I lose the weight I am going to try for another baby. So along with that and just wanting to like myself again I know I can do it. Even though it will take some time. So Good luck to everyone on the slimfast diet. I hope it works for all of us.

Wendy

AUGUST427 06-02-2005 02:08 PM

I plan to get everything I need this weekend and start on the SF diet Monday....boy, how many times have I "started on Monday"? But, it too would like to know of a forum to support the SF dieters. I already work out most mornings (4-5 days), but I have the WORST eating habits. So, hopefully SF will help me to get it in order.

Idrial 06-08-2005 12:11 AM

Hi,
I just joined tonight after finding this site from a google search. I started slimfast recently and love it. I'm using the optima plan. I bought some of the new breakfast bar today and will start using those tomorrow.

I'd lost to 161.5 but had to start taking prednisone for arthritis and gained 5 pounds but I'm confident that I will lose that as soon as my body adjusts.

I hope to see more sf support and to be part of the group!
Idrial

shyangel 06-08-2005 09:21 AM

Hi Everyone,

Wendy - it really sound like Slim Fast is working for you. If you are walking for your exercise I wouldn't worry about taking a day out for your muscles, unless you are power walking and actually getting sore. It doesn't mean you can't change up your routine a little and maybe walk a little less or a different route one day, but walking everyday is good for you. Keep it up. Days off are usually recommended for weightlifting and/or more intense aerobic activity (running, biking, etc.).

ameg - how are you doing with your goal?

Anyone else making any progress on Slim Fast or have any tips?

I have been drinking a shake a day and sometimes a meal bar. I still can't find any muffin bars or more than one kind of snack bar. I don't like eating the meal bars as 'snacks'. I don't think I've lost any weight yet - although I'm not really doing much else so I don't blame Slim Fast - but it makes eating a little easier/convenient.

Idrial 06-08-2005 10:56 AM

I've lost 11 so far.
I tried the iced lemon breakfast bar this morning (optima) and it's delicious!
It's really hot and steamy here and this was a light but filling breakfast. I took a 45 minute walk and feel great.
Idrial

shyangel 06-10-2005 11:03 AM

I lost 2 pounds but that puts me back to 206 so really no lose. I'm out of Optima bars so I have to get to the store. I'm hoping to find a different store that has more variety of bars.

The weather is a lot better here too so I've been outside in my garden. I love the outdoors. I'm hoping the extra activity will help with weight loss too.

New to the group

HI! I am sort of new to the group and 3fc's in general. I checked in here about a year ago and am back because instead of losing, I have gained. Not that I am making excuses but I moved houses and have had a big falling out with my best friend in the last several months and this has given me the permission I needed in order to stuff my face with comfort food for 4 months straight. I stopped going to the gym, felt like a slug, and just gained and gained. I am now ready to work hard to get it all off and thought I would start with slimfast. I know how to eat healthy and have been a heathy dieter before and and motivated to get back into it.
I have been working out (at Curves) and doing slimfast shakes and other liquids just to get me going. I am in DAY 3 and have lost 6 pounds! I am not really hungry and already have a lot of energy from the workouts.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself to this group and say that it is really great that there are other slimfast dieters out there!!

sapphire9 06-10-2005 03:00 PM

Hi, all. I kind of lost track of this thread. I've been off the plan but will go back on on Monday. I am very sedentary right now so I don't need a lot of calories to get by. Sometimes I had vegs to the lunch of a Slim Fast shake to give me something to chew on. I don't really care for the bars. At night with my Lean Cuisine dinner I have some Kavli rye crackers to add bulk to my diet. Sometimes I have a wedge or two of Laughing Cow cheese. The apple I have for a snack about 5 p.m. really fills me up so I'm not hungry for several hours. I tend to eat late so I don't do any grazing before bed. My big problem is the weekends. I can't seem to stay on track. Also, I have started trying to walk again (huffing and puffing lol) so I might add some calories if I keep that up.

bellasmom 06-12-2005 11:21 AM

weekend diet mishaps

I usually have a hader time on the weekends too. My husband travels a lot for work and my daughter and I miss him. So when he comes home, its Party Central. We "celebrate" and go out to eat or I cook big UNHEALTHY meals. Also, My girlfriends are very much into the martini thing and lunching every week. It is hard to say no when I want to do those things too. I have been dieting for 2 months now (just a week with slimfast) and I am finding that I see my friends much less often and I have banned going out to eat. I still make the big dinners but with calories and fat content in mind. Now...what I do with my time to keep me occupied (not thinking about food): I make a weekend trip to the library, I go to the park with my 3 yr old, I spend a few hours listening to music on my ipod dancing my my hubbie or little girl, I walk around at the mall (replacing a food addiction for a shoe addiction - I celebrate each 10 pounds with something FOR ME), I go to the movies, and I have been scarpbooking (or learning how to), and I have been really into this game we have for the Xbox (Dance revolution)- I love to dance so this is a great way to burn calories (when Curves is closed on Sundays) and I really LOVE doing it. What does everyone else do to keep occupied now that food doesnt take as much time in your lives? I love new ideas and trying new things. Maybe we can share ideas?.........

Ferret 06-12-2005 02:55 PM

Hello, like a couple of you I'm new here and loving it so far...i just happened across the site...I'm also involved in a graphics forum so between the two i hope i keep myself busy...so I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys...so far I've lost about 40 lbs since the beginning of the year, but i know I'm about 80 lbs below my top weight i've been at...i gotta keep remembering that ;) I get irritated with myself so easily...

anyways back to slim fast lol...i've used it off and on and have had moderate success but i am looking right now as we speak on the site to see the new changes...maybe i'll go back ;)

hootiekay 06-12-2005 07:14 PM

slim fast dieter

I have dabbled a little with the slim fast plan. The shakes are pretty good but find they dont last very long :( . The slim fast optima snack bars are delicious. The peanut butter crunch tastes like a butterfinger. I havent tried the breakfast bars yet. Have you tried any of them. Would be glad to hear your success with this plan. My name is Sharon. Good luck to you

shyangel 06-13-2005 08:59 AM

Hi Everyone,

I finally found the muffin bars. I'll try one today. I hope they are good because I bought 3 boxes (one of each flavor the store had).

Laurie - I agree that weekends can be very difficult. It sounds like you keep yourself busy though. I love to do yard work and gardening. There's always something to do and a variety so I never get bored out there. I am almost done planting all of my veggies for the year. I'm a little late finishing but hopefully I'll reap the rewards in a couple of months.

Ferret - Wow, you've made a lot of progress. You mention starting Slim Fast but how did you lose your weight so far?

Sharon - When you say that the shakes don't last long, do you mean that you get hungry soon afterwards? Are you eating something with the shakes (see the new Slim Fast website) and your snacks? I have the same problem if I eat only the shake. I make sure I have fruit and other small snacks, salads or sandwiches around to supplement them.

My problem at this point is staying away from chocolate (my down fall) and not eating too large of a dinner. I guess I need to stop keeping chocolate in my house.

I think we should move this thread to a permanent location for Slim Fast users. Does anyone have a recommendation of what area we should go to? Support Groups or maybe in the formal diets area?

bellasmom 06-13-2005 01:33 PM

well, I am feeling weird today. I own my own business and that is going really good. We had a huge order today from a customer that is a weekly orderer (they took 3 times their normal amount of product). So I am all psyched about that. I maintained over the weekend (even lost a pound), so I am very happy about that. I dont know why I feel out of sorts. I know its soon to be my "time of the month" so maybe that is it. I dont know. I feel emotional and I dont have a really good reason. I stayed up late last night reading a novel and it had this character in it who had cancer. She was finding out if she has hodgkins or non-hodgkins and went on and on about how the "non" kind was like a death sentence...."might as well plan the funeral now"....My mom is in remission from the "non" kind and so I was very sad about that. I was thinking that I know its a book but the author could be a little more sensitive about her writing. It made me think of my mom and hope that she doesnt get sick again. Maybe that is why I am upset today. I really dont know...
I am going to work out in an hour and hope I come back with a little better attitude. I dont want to emotional eat and ruin my diet.
How do you all handle "bad" days? When the urge to fill the void with some cheesy pasta dish or mounds of chocolate seem very appealing? When you have the ready reason (EXCUSE) of the "time of the month" or issues at home?
OK, I will stop feeling sorry for myself and go to the gym.

shyangel 06-14-2005 10:03 AM

Laurie - how are you feeling today? I know it's not easy, but try to stay busy so you don't eat. If you eat you will just feel worse. Maybe you could have a list of things you like to do (e.g. read a fun book, go for a walk, rent a movie, craft, etc.) and pick one of those to when you don't feel 'emotional right'. I just lost my mother to cancer in March so I probably have some idea of what you're feeling. Why were you reading this book? The book combined with TOM could be making you emotional. Congratulations on trying to figure out your feelings though and not just pushing them aside and going directly for the food. Did you feel better after the gym?

noelleamy 06-14-2005 06:35 PM

Hi Everyone-can I join you? I am also doing shakes as a meal replacement-just not slimfast. I have just been so sick of cooking lately I thought I would go this route. I did weight watchers some time ago and got down from 288 lbs. But I have just been sitting at this weight forever.

I am doing two protien shakes a day with a nice, normal sized meal for dinner. My shakes are protien powder, soy milk, and shake powder with a cup of fruit either in them or on the side (the fruit helps cuz I am chewing something). Anyway, I really like them.

I am also having either a small side salad or a protien bar as a snack mid afternoon. It seems to be working pretty good! I am on day three, I weigh myself once a week. I started at 236.5. Anyway, I just wanted to find a group who is doing shakes also! So, can I stick around?

Here is what I had today:
Coffee shake w/ a banana
Cookies n cream shake
Chicken on lettuce no dressing but some parmesean
1 bowl of beef stew, home made
2 pieces of bread w/ spray butter
3 squares hershey chocolate

Hi Amy. You are very welcome to join the group. Your shakes sound very good. Do you exercise at all?

I lost a pound! I'm not feeling very well today so I'm going home early but wanted to say hello. How is everyone else doing?

Today I had cereal with almonds and blueberries for breakfast and then I just had a muffin bar. No exercising today because of cold. :(

Sandy00 06-17-2005 06:18 PM

Hi all

I have been drinking Slim Fast for almost over a year and I have had great success. I am disappointed, because Slim Fast had a drop in sales and they eliminated their soups and pasta, that is what I was eating mostly. They had an adequate amount of FIBER and it makes you feel full and it also helps digestion and that was really a plus for me. I ate Slim Fast everyday, that is how I lost over 40 lbs. So, now I have had to do other things, I have been looking for soups and other products with more FIBER in them and that is not easy :dizzy: . So counting calories, exercising :ebike: and eating healthy :hungry: has worked for me.

Sandy

shyangel 06-20-2005 09:35 AM

Sandy - do you eat or drink any of the Slim Fast products still?

Highest fiber cereal around (14 g) is Fiber One. They have flakes now or the original 'sticks'. Not bad tasting and the fiber does really make a difference. Figs are also really high in fiber.

I was doing really well last week with my Slim Fast. I had to go out of town for Father's Day and it ruined things with eating. I have to start all over again. It's hard for me to eat right when I'm not home. I'm not bringing my shakes with me.

Cathay 06-26-2005 07:20 PM

Slim fast club???!!!!!

Hello,

My name is Cathay, I live in Quebec City, Canada. I start slimfast optima plan tomorrow and feel quite excited about it, considering the good comments about the news products. I have bought, for my first week, cookie dough bar, raison bar and chocolate shake.

Now we can eat a good quantity of "normal" food, I guess it's going to be easier to stick on the plan.

It would be very interesting and good for motivation to have our own SlimFast club here on the website. How can we do that????
