  • Hi, I'm 54 and still trying to get it right! I'm tired of being "just a little plump". And my BP and cholesterol are starting to climb. I need to loose weight and keep it off! And I want to be able to run and play with my grandchildren! Any one else out there with the same problem?
  • I'm in the same sinking boat. Just signed up yesterday and I'm starting on sugar busters today. It worked in the past and I took off 31 pounds. I need to do it again. I'm older than you - 66, but want to get to 140 lbs. Maybe we can do it together.
  • Oh yes. I am 54 also, with bp and cholesterol problems. I am more than 'just a little plump' though.
I need to loose at least 40 pounds, 50 would be great.
I find I do better with a group to set challenges, do you. If so maybe we can help each other along this journey.
I have 7 grandchildren who love to come up to visit on spring breaks, etc. It is hard to keep up with them.Like you, I know it would be so much better with all the extra weight gone.

    Good luck to you. Barbara
  • Hi
Hi, glad to see that I'm not alone! There are still a few of us grndma's out there still making the effort to stay slim and fit. What do you do for exercise? I find I can't just diet alone. If I don't exercise I can't manage to loose the weight. Have you tried any of the recipes here? What kind of diet are you following. I have heard of sugar busters but i'm not too familuar with it. I just watch the calories. If I were to follow a strict diet I think I would do WW. I just think it's healthy. If you want to e-mail me my address is [email protected] I hope we can keep each other on tract!
  • i'm not a grandma yet, but i just wanted to stop in and say hello. wish you the best of success in your wl journey!!
  • Slim,

Hi, I'm new to the site and have found it very helpful. I am 52 and have 3 grandkids. I am plump too and would like to be able shed some pounds and have energy to keep up with the g-kids. I have joined the April Walking group and I am walking on a regular basis. You're not alone. I think we have a lot in common!
  • I',m glad to hear from you. I am walking for exercise too. It would, will, be nice to walk outside but it's still too cold up here. I work part time and baby sit 2 days a week for my 2 grandkids, age 2 and 5. Keeps me pretty busy.
  • Good morning ladies. It's nice to be here with you all. Hope we all have a great journey together and reach our goals.
I walk for exercise and use the steps. Using the treadmill this week, not cold here but we are having one of those rainy spells.
I am on a low-fat diet, doc. recomended, eating lots of raw veggies and of course, no sweets - sweets are my weakness. And the water, lots of water.
I haven't tried any of the recipes here, I will check them out - don't know my way around here so good yet.
My main goal is to loose 40 to 50 pounds, but I would love to loose 25 of this by July 6, my 55 bd.
Hope you will share any advice, tips, etc.
Looking forward to readibg all your post.
  • I am just watching the calories too, and try to eat low fat. Lots of fruit and vegetables and "good" carbs. Carbs seem to be a dirty word lately but they are used by the body for fuel! Besides, they taste good! I believe everything in moderation! I walk for exercise (outside as soon as it warms up) and I lift hand weights too. I will occasionally get a tape to work out to to break it up a little. I love the ty-bo tapes but I can't do much kicking (I have a bad back). Oh the joys of getting older! I do great during the day but by 8 oclock i'm raiding the refrigerator and cubbard looking for a snack! And that one just leads to more! I'm beginning to see some rsults for all my hard work, and it feels great! Nothing inspires you like success!
How are all of you doing?
  • Hi I am a grandmother of 3 girls too.I am 47 and on the South Beach Diet now.It has really helped me change my way of eating without the cravings and hunger pangs.I walk when I can or go to Curves.Curves takes off the inches, definitely and it doesn't even feel like a workout,30 minutes!I am down 21 lbs ,22.5 inches,2 pant sizes since Jan.1,2005.Slow and sure.It takes alot of patience but I set a goal of 2 lbs a week minimum so I don't get discouraged.
  • hi
Wow, you are doing great! That is an awsome weight loss. You're right, that does keep you inspired. The South Beach diet emphises the good carbs and those are the ones I ry to eat anyway. I love brown rice (it tasts nutty) and whole wheat bread. Sure is working for you.

My grandchildren are a boy 5 and a girl 2. I love totake them to the park, but then they xpect me to play with them. I want to be around long enough to see them grow up!

The last time I went to the Dr. my BP was elevated and he wanted to put me on medication. I told him to give me 3 months to bring it down on my own. So far i'm doing good. I don't want to get started on meds unless I have too. Same with cholesterol! If I can keep them down with diet and exercise i'm sure going to try!
  • Morning ladies
Hope you all had a great week-end and are ready to get back online .
Slim you are very wise to not accept the bp meds. I have been on one since 1992 and the doc. added plavix in 2001. Hopefully with the right eating habits and exercise I will come off them some day.

Pat how is the sugar busters working for you. Let us hear.
Silas, awsome, two pants sizes sounds super great!

I haven't tried any of the diets, except the low fat and just not eating, because of the meds. I take. Trying hard to lose at least 2 pounds a week.

Well, just wanted to pop in and say hi to everyone, see how you all are doing.

    Barbara
  • I'm 44 and the g'mother to 2.5 (new one is due any day now) - I hate being this large - I don't want to be known as a 'plump' granny.

Good luck to everyone on their journay
  • Welcome kim. Looks like you got off to a very start. I'm with you - don't want to be plump granny. And I also am in Georgia - Eatonton, in the Lake Sinclaire area. Are you familar with it?
I am having a hard time trying to figure out where I should post here.

Have a good day and lots of success on your journey.
    Barbara
  • Hi Barbara, yes I know where it is. I frequent the 4-H camp there. My girls are in 4-H and my older daughter was also.

We also had a cabin on Lake Sinclair when I was a young girl - I miss that place.

Success on your journey also. (((HUGS)))
