Question about the board...

I'm new and wondering what type of weight loss strategy most people are using here. Anyone want to share what has worked for them? Thanks in advance!!

I use portion control and exercise.

My husband and I follow the Lightweigh. In a nutshell. You eat only when hungry, and I mean stomach growl hungry, you eat only a fist size of food because that is the size of your stomach when it is shrunk to it's normal size. You stop when full. You eat slowly and take small bites. You leave your last bite for your Guardian Angel which will help you attain peace with food. My dog thinks that the Guardian Angel idea is just great, the only problem is that she eats and does not gain weight. Anyway hope this helps. GOd BLess.

I use calorie counting and exercise :) It's worked for me in the past, so i'm pretty sure it'll work again.

I'm also using calorie counting and exercise. Some people don't care for counting calories but I like it because it teaches you proper portions and food values. Either coming on or going away 3500 cals. is a pound

Ditto ...

This is my philosophy exactly!

I go to slimming world a UK diet group. Mostly though I just try to be sensible and go a bit mad at the weekends.

Hi EE25!

Welcome to the boards. I've only been here a week or two myself. As far as nutrition, I use the principles of Sugar Busters, a book that's available at your local bookstore. The basic premise is to limit your intake of starchy, high-glycemic carbs, eat whole foods (not overly proccessed), whole grain breads, lots of veggies, some low-glycemic fruits, lean meats, etc. I also watch my portions, eat 5-6 small meals a day, and count calories (at least at the beginning, to get a true picture of how much you're consuming.) A couple of good sites for doing this are http://www.fitday.com and http://in2nutrition.com/discovery2/ I'm also trying to do cardio and weight training 3 times a week to boost metabolism, burn calories and gain muscle (which also increases your metabolism.) Do you have a plan you're following? What are your goals? Best of luck to you on your journey! :D

Heya!
I calorie count and exercise too. It makes you think hard about what you eat since you have to tally it all up at the end of the day (or as I go along) I use fitday which is quite good although I find it a bit American. I've done tae bo and similar exercise dvds and when I'm at home I use a rebounder. I manage about 3-5 times a week totalling about 3-4 hours. I've lost 17lb in 13 weeks which is good since I didn't start off that heavy (161lb) and I have had probably about 7 days which were really bad. AT first I was doing about 1200 calories a day but I got a bit fed up and now am more around the 1600 mark but the weight is still coming off. I hit a plateau for a while and then it started up again.
Good luck

Dill

A Broad Abroad-what kind of dog is that in your picture?

a broad abroad 07-11-2004 02:46 AM

HI praytherosary - my dog's a genuine heinz 57 mix ! He's a mutt but we think the predominant breed is German Short-Haired Pointer. He's about 38 pounds and knee high. He's also my diet buddy!!! I take him for a walk everyday and he eats the egg yolks, meat fat or recipes I didn't care for!

He's a beautiful dog. He kind of reminded me of my rat terrier, but she is a small dog with long legs and weighs in at an all time high of 13 pounds. She has a long snout like your dog but your dog is much heavier and taller. My dog loves when we go walking, well we walk, she runs, we go walking at 4:30 am at our church parking lot which is about a half a mile from our home, we have a nice neighborhood, but too much traffic and the dog loves to chase cars, we put her on a long rope leash but you have to reel her in like a fish every time a car passes so she doesn't get hit, so the church is much better. Anyway have a gread evening. God Bless.
