Hi! A friend of mine who is dieting recommended this site to me because I can't seem to keep my diet going.
I lost 10 lbs, but have gained 2 back. My goal is at least 100 lbs, but I am trying to think in increments to not scare myself.
I lost 30 lbs last year or the year before, but then I got hurt and gained it all back.
I need exercises to start with that won't kill me since I am so out of shape, so any tips would be great.
Thanks!

Hi WonderJenny! It's nice to meet you, welcome.

I think you'll find a lot of good advice here that people share about SUSTAINABLE diets, working in small steps, and the gradual process of changing your lifestyle.

As far as exercising goes, I don't think you need to do anything elaborate at this point--I would focus on things that simply get your heart rate up. Really good cardio early on is long brisk walks. Set goals about how far/fast you go until they become easy, then set new goals. That way you can literally and figuratively go at your own pace.

I hope you find encouragement and support here!

Hi WonderJenny!

I second the walking suggestion.

What did you do last time you lost 30 pounds?

I am not sure about your particular situation, so ignore the following as appropriate.

Here are a couple of things I did last year when I started to take charge of my health:

1. I got a pedometer and tried to get 10,000 steps in a day. Some days I went over, and some under, but it was good motivation to move more.

2. I followed a structured eating plan based on the diabetic exchange list, even though I am not diabetic. Before that, I had been used to grazing all day on whatever I wanted, which led to obesity and poor choices.

Later, I reduced my carbs as my blood sugar levels adjusted and I learned to sit with hunger, realizing that the next meal was coming soon enough and that I wasn't going to pass out.

Wish you all the best. You can do it again!

To lose 30 lbs, I used an ipad food tracking app, and I did exercising to youtube videos for exercise.
I really hate walking for the most part.

Welcome, WonderJenny -
Not a fan of walking, huh? How about dancing?
There are some great cardio dance videos out there. They're pretty tiring, but you could just aim to get 15 minutes done to start and add on from there. Just an idea.

Best wishes with your weight loss journey!

Hey! Welcome to the forum. I joined a while ago but just signed back in and I'm glad to see it's still an active forum with people signing up! For exercises that are reasonably easy, do you feel comfortable going out for walks?

I don't live in Atlanta, but from looking up the weather it looks mild (7 degrees C today). You could download an audiobook from the library (if that's available) or put on some music or a podcast, and just go for a long walk. You might start with 30 min and eventually build up.

Walking is really great fat-burning exercise, but it's really good for everything else too. When I once asked a dermatologist what he'd recommend as a remedy for premature for aging/aging skin (I was going a project on this) his response was long walks with loved ones!

Good luck! Share your progress, I'd love to follow.
