Default Hi everybody!

This is my 2nd attempt at losing weight, after a rather unsuccessful 2 weeks in 2013 where I lost 5lbs and promptly gave up!

After losing 25lbs in 10 weeks, I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and Graves disease in January this year and have only recently been given the ok to start exercising again. Unfortunately, the medication I've been on has really slowed down my metabolism and I'm back up to 175 again (my previous high was 185). If anyone has tips on how to lose weight with hyperthyroidism, it would be great if you could let me know

I'm hoping this website will give me the motivation I need to get back down to 130 - I can't even remember being this weight! At the moment, I'm logging my caloric intake on MyFitnessPal, which is working well for me. My weakness comes when I'm eating out with friends, and even if there is a healthy option available, I have a long long list of justifications that I make to myself about why I DESERVE this meal, even though I really haven't done anything!

If anyone would be able to recommend me a time frame in which I could lose the weight, I'd be very grateful...having and endpoint in sight makes it seem all the more worthwhile!

Hi wemakesparksfly! Welcome to the forum. I have not had to deal with hyperthyroidism nor Graves, but I'm sure with all the people on the forum, there are some that can help you along.

There is lots of motivation here. Just reading the daily posts from the members does that for me. There are also challenge threads you can join. My advice is to try the 5 lb or 2% challenges. Try to bite off small chunks at a time - pun intended!

Good luck on your weight loss journey. The final advice - keep posting, gain or lose. Even if you are up 2 lbs - others will help motivate you to get you back on track.

Thanks so much for the advice katiam247! I'm thinking of trying to lose 5lbs by christmas...that may be slightly ambitious considering that christmas food is my favourite, but I may as well push myself
