Hi, new and ready to lose!
Hi everyone,
I have posted in a few threads now, but thought I'd make the standard introduction post as well. I'm a 34 year old woman who is looking to shed at least 80 pounds. I have given up all sodas for two weeks now, and for the last week I have been using the LoseIt app to track calories, steps, and exercise. I am walking everyday, usually about 10-15 minutes at a time, a few times per day. Every other day, I am doing about 30 minutes of water aerobics. This is more exercise than I have had in years. It's only been a week of this but I feel better already. I definitely have more energy and my pants are loose as well. Good start! I am definitely looking for buddies in this lifestyle change. No one I know is trying to lose weight, and while I do have some friends/family that are really athletic, they are all way above me, haha. Anyone that wants to check in here or by email or a messaging app, I'm down. I could use the accountability and encouragement! Just bought a scale, my weight this morning was 220, and I am 5'7". I feel I must have lost at least five pounds since I started, since I have lost at least an inch and maybe two from my waist, but I can't be sure since I just got the scale last night. Thanks for reading and for any replies, and good luck to all of you! :) |
LesGetFit you sound really energetic and definitely ready to loose some weight and get fit. Giving up soda is really a smart move and certainly the exercise to maintain at least some of it for the rest of your life.
I am far older than you are but at 223 close to your weight. I understand the help support gives. I'll check with you a bit in hopes someone younger comes in also. I love to garden, just as my name says. We live in subdivision that is 1/2 lawn grass and the other half in shrubs and flowers. Plenty of vegetation to keep us busy. I retired 7 years ago and keeping up with planting, harvesting, weeding helps me keep stronger and more flexible. We can walk in the neighborhood that is safe. I used to walk after supper dishes winter and summer. It was a great routine. Now, when it is icy and cold I'm unable to because of Asthma. Still, lucky to be able to do as much as I do. What type food are you eating for health? Is your job at home or away from the house? May you continue your enthusiasm, it is contagious. |
At this point, I am eating mostly the same things I always ate, just a lot less of it. I have cut out white bread, and replaced it with a 100% whole wheat bread. I am also trying to eat more veggies and fruit. I am eating mostly nuts, chicken, and turkey for protein. I never eat breakfast, so soon I will try to make myself eat an egg with whole grain toast every morning.
The only really unhealthy thing I am still having is 1-2 iced coffees per day, sweetened with a standard simple syrup. They are homemade and have half the calories of the ones I used to buy at the coffeehouse. And two weeks ago, I was still having the iced coffee everyday, plus several sodas as well. So it's an improvement. I am lucky enough at this time to be working from home, so it has definitely made this a good time to start this journey. Funny that you would say I sound energetic, as I have always been so lazy and felt like I have no energy. After one week of exercise I feel so much better. Definitely a good sign! |
Oh, and I also love to garden and have asthma, haha. So we may have a lot more in common! :)
