Motivated newbie

  • Hi all, little introduction, I've been dieting on and off since I was in my teens, but to no avail.

I went from a healthy competitive swimmer to an overweight adult after an accident that meant surgery left me unable to swim or exercise for a year. Puberty quickly came and with that came Poly Cystic Ovary syndrome (PCOS) and insulin resistance.

I am now suffering with an embarrassing and debilitating skin condition.. Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and am looking to lose weight to help my body heal as best I can.

I also have hypermobility and joint pain.

Hoping this forum can motivate me and help me to motivate others

    Thank you.

  • Girl! I get you. Not on some fronts, but I as well suffer With HS, and it's one of my main motivators to get the chunk off!

I can tell you this, I threw it into remission for a while, because I had went full out vegetarian! I've only had a couple flares since then, and I've relapsed into my poor eating habits, and put BACK on ten pounds. I'm just over it.

Lets get it, shall we!? feel free to PM me any time!
  • Hello and welcome to the forum! I also have problems with health. I almost can't do sport(( I have problems with joints(( I do hope you can find support and help and motivation here! Would be glad to make friends and help each other;-) Wish you best of luck here! You made the right decision to come here. I am sure you will like this forum a lot;-)
  • Welcome and Keep it up... We are going to make it
  • Pickle, welcome! Glad you joined us. You do have a lot going on. If you haven't already, check out the Dieting with Obstacles section, lots of issues that make life hard are shared & perhaps you'll find some useful help there.

The Forum is wonderful & so many great people here. Good luck to you!

  • Holy Cow. There's an actual diagnostic *name* for this?! Hidradenitis suppurativa. You have just changed my life. No kidding. (The wait to see a dermatologist here is extensive, and of course you would have to disclose your issue to be diagnosed, and I already know it's weight related/induced so I've never seen a professional due to sheer embarassment.)

That said: HI, P1ckle! I'm new here too, and am hoping to build a solid support, encouragement and accountability network here - this has to work! I am also dealing with PCOS, as well as Acanthosis Nigricans (though my blood sugar is just fine - so far). All of those things just seem to make the whole process seem more difficult. You can do this, and I'm here to help!
