Hey all. Good to see so many different perspectives and variety of information on the site. I registered as a newbie at the end of June this year. My motivation in joining was for support. I have daily battles in the home that are proving to be the most challenging. The biggest being my boyfriend. He is supportive of whatever I need to do so there is no blame being thrown. The problem is his habits. I'm struggling with the fact that he likes to eat dinner before bed (about 10 pm) and as much as I fight doing it, I find myself also waiting till he eats before I will eat also. For this reason I have been struggling with the same 5 lbs going up and down while trying to stay strong and stick to what I am learning is working for me for about the last month.
I'm ready for this to change permanently. I walk at least 4x a week (usually more) and mix it up between the treadmill and the dog. If I do the treadmill I focus on incline walking for 20-30 mins and if it's the dog we do about 2.3 miles round trip. I have already noticed a big difference in my knee and hip soreness which is due to the extra weight and am much stronger and energetic even still carrying the extra weight. I watch my calories and drink water almost exclusively, so I'm getting in plenty in that area. On good days when I control the late night eating I usually lose about 1 lb/day, on the not so good days I will gain 1 to 1.5 lbs/day.
The new plan is to really work my support system and stay focused on the next day. Focusing on the next day seems to be my best line of defense against turning the late night meals away. The new challenge is making and sticking my own eating schedule. Thanks for listening and all support is sincerely appreciated.
I am a new member, I also joined for support, that sense of community goes a long way! You mentioned you eat dinner late, before going to bed, if you must eat dinner to accompany your boyfriend, can't you eat some veggies or salads so it wont affect your weight loss?

Yes, this support system is doing much for my cause. I do try to stick to veggies or even low fat cottage cheese when I eat that late. My willpower doesn't always win over. One thing that is helping and I know doesn't work for everyone, is that I weigh everyday. I think that has kept me in that up and down 5 lb zone or I may have gained more. Talking about the challenge (and not just with my boyfriend) seems to be making it more of a physical issue and not just a mental one. Thank you for the response, it increases my determination to get past this!!
