Welcome aboard! I'm glad you're going to do this the healthy way. You'll read lots of information how to go about this and some of it will probably be conflicting. People will often tell you that all you have to do is move more and eat less, but anyone who struggles with their weight knows that it's simply not that simple.
I can only offer my own advice which may or may not work for you, but as you go through your journey, hopefully you'll find what works best with your life style.
For me, I restrict my caloric intake (eating between 1200-1500 calories a day) and I only snack once a day (a protein snack usually like an egg, string cheese, raw salt-free nuts, etc.). Besides that, I eat 3 meals a day and avoid sugar and flour. Once I stopped the sugar and flour, I realized that I could be a lot more in control of my eating because I was finally able to admit to myself that I can't eat those foods in moderation and even though I do eat some fruit, I can't eat dried fruit in moderation, as an example.
You might want to start by keeping a food log for a week and just jotting down exactly every food/caloric drink you consume. Once you get it in black and white, you might come to realize that you can alter your way of eating (WOE) and find good results that you can live with for the rest of your life.
You can also post a typical day and get feedback from others here. I've found people to be very generous and helpful here for the vast majority of time, so don't be shy!
Again, I welcome you and wish you all the best....it's not about motivation...it's about commitment.
