Default I have to do this

Hi!

I'm happy to have found this place and all of you. Happy New Year to all of you, and may all of you who are celebrating Christmas have a wonderful and blessed week.

I am a one year breast cancer thriver and am now twenty pounds heavier than last year. ugh I need to lose 30 pounds SOON as being this weight IN ADDITION to chemo has taxed my liver somewhat. My total weight loss goal is 50 to 60 pounds.

I am a mother and grandmother, and am in my mid fifties.

Welcome! You can do it! Have you chosen a specific way of eating or diet plan?

Welcome and good luck on your journey!

There's been some research on the effects of low carbohydrate diets on cancer cells, so I thought you might be interested in this: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0614115037.htm

Thank you, Val and Bunny!

I am going to be doing Atkins, and am still thinking about fasting once a week.

My husband has read a lot about tumor growth and insulin, and is convinced this study is correct.

Good luck with both the Atkins and the fasting! I am a big believer in low carb, although I do low carb, low fat. I also think that fasting, and/or intermittent fasting is great. Have a successful journey.

That sounds great! I also believe in the health aspects of intermittent fasting. You can reap some rewards even with just shorter fasting periods in case a whole day of fasting would feel too uncomfortable.

Please keep us posted on how you're doing!

My husband is now a two year prostate cancer survivor. Though never heavy at all, he is now 15 lbs leaner (and very slim), and swears by intermittent fasting with a good exercise program. THe body of literature on how intermittent fasting benefits 'normal' cells and hurts cancer cells is growing. In fact, some of the most interesting results are just BEFORE chemo, when a short fast puts normal cells into hiatis (better able to 'hunker down') while making cancer cells better at taking in the chemo - a win/win situation. (Read this in the NY times I believe)

My husband now has never felt better. You can do it too! Congratulations on reaching the 1 year milestone. Just lose your weight slowly and steadily. Better for your liver and you're more likely to keep that weight off.
