Default Nearing the halfway mark

Hi everyone, just a quick intro here: I started my diet 1 July 2013, have lost about 16lbs so far. But nearing the halfway mark, I find my progress slowing down by the day, which is discouraging. I'm afraid of falling off the wagon (again) so decided to join 3FC for support. Looking forward to losing weight with everyone!

Hey, I'm just starting this week! That's so awesome you are down 16 lbs since July 1. I started working out on Monday and eating pretty good (lots of room for improvement there..I'm consuming about 1500cal/day), but I haven't lost 1 pound! every day, I weigh, and nothing. Talk about discouraged. and I've gained so much weight, I thought it would come off quickly, at least in the beginning. Ugh. I'm soooo down about it.

Hi Gemini1978, sorry to hear you're off to a slow start. Just to share, I only weighed myself at the start of my diet and at the end of the first month because I didn't want the numbers to mess with my progress. Lose too little, especially at the start, and you may lose the drive and motivation to continue. On the other hand, lose too much and you might start slacking off and end up gaining back the weight lost (this happened to me). Anyway, please do not give up and I'm sure the pounds will start coming off soon!

Welcome Chunkie and Gemini! Chunkie, you keep it up! You are doing great! You don't want to stop now! Trust me, check out my tickers! Gemini, I was in your exact same boat recently until I cut back on carbs. I used to think all calories were basically the same, but I'm learning that at least for some people (and I'm one of those people), it's not so. I've cut out breads, pastas, dairy, starchy veggies like potatoes and corn, and sweets. However, on Saturdays (a cheat day), I allow myself to eat anything I want. This keeps me going, and I've lost 11 lbs since mid-July. I don't count calories, I focus on carbs, but calorie-counting may work for you just fine. However, you might want to study it a bit more. Exercise is great, but it does not take the place of dieting as far as weight loss is concerned. It only supplements it. Make sure, if you are going to count calories to count them carefully! Good luck to you both!

Thank you both for the supportive words! I am determined to not give up! I am going to a Zumba class this morning. And maybe I shouldn't weigh every day. I just was hoping to see that what I was doing was working. But you know, if it
were working, I would likely be able to feel it in my clothes too. Anyway, you're right. I def need to be working on nutrition as my main focus and exercise as a secondary focus. Both are important, i know, but when it comes to weight loss, diet holds more weight. I may try to limit carbs--I've never done that.

Keep up the good work both of you! I need y'all to rub off on me:-)

Happy Saturday!

Thanks, Jacqui_D! I agree, I think dieting is more effective than exercise for weight loss.

You too, Gemini1978! Let's all stay focused and motivated!
