Default Newbie seeking support

Hi Everyone,

I am new here and need all the help I can get. I have been overweight for about 21 years now (probably considered obese at 278) and did the yoyo dieting in my twenties and early thirties. Since late thirties, I have progressively gained weight. I snack all the time and have a huge appetite. I need to lose about 120 pounds and don't even know where to begin. Over the last 3 years I have suffered with some depression, procrastination, and can't seem to stay focused.

Recently, I sustained a bad ankle injury which showcased just how huge I am. It has been a long recovery and I still can't walk 100% but I am ready for a change.

I must overcome this area in my life. I have ended up on this website a few times before during web searching and decided this time I would join. I'm tired of being weighed down and ready for a change. My family doesn't understand. and I don't have a clue where to begin. Open to all suggestions and support.

Welcome! Everyone has to start somewhere and you've taken the first step.

I lost my first 60 lbs by just cutting out all beverages with calories and fried foods, while focusing on portion control.

I plateaued at 205 for 3 months and then started a doctor-supervised diet called HMR. I would recommend attending a free orientation if you have a hospital or doctor's office nearby that offers it. I lost the last 50 lbs over a period of 5-6 months. It's a strict diet, but you lose weight so fast, it's motivating to stick with it.

I think the moral of my story is that most diets work, you just gotta figure out what works best for you

Welcome and nice to meet you You are in the right place for support and you can do this!

I am very early in my weight loss goals. I was very scared to even try to make diet adjustments because I assumed I would fail. Eventually I decided I had, had it, and it was time to give it a try. I'm almost embarrassed to say what teensy changes I made at first, but however tiny of a step, it was a step in the right direction and it kept me motivated.

My first change was to only eat foods with better dietary merit. Basically cut out fast food. I still ate as much as I wanted of any other types of foods, just not really bad empty type calories. I also doubled my water intake which was uber hard. That's literally all I did to get started. Later I decided to try eating slightly less. And later still, switching to baked chips. And later still, cutting way down on soda. And I have kept challenging myself from there.

Good luck to you and please keep us posted!
