It sounds like you've got a great start on the exercise, which is AWESOME!!! I personally am not a big fan of gyms, so I also walk and use an elliptical when I visit my parents house. Every little bit counts! Any exercise is better than no exercise!
As far as diets go, there are soooooo many choices!! I use Weight Watchers, but there is also calorie counting, portion control, vegan, vegetarian, south beach...the list can go on and on! I would recommend looking through several of the forums here to see if there might be one that better fits your lifestyle. The trick is not to change too much right away, as that can lead to "rebelling" and binging.
