Default Hello from NZ - Wondering if calorie counting is right for me...

Hi I am wondering if Calorie counting would be right for me
And is there any easy way to do this or online program that would work
I am seriously bad at doing things on paper..

I am not new to trying to lose weight but am to the web site and I am looking for a weight loss program that will work for me and be easy to stick to

one of my biggest problems is I have 2 children and a husband who can eat every thing or anything they like.. I have never been able to do that as even as a child I was the fat kid.

I have had success with the 6 week body makeover but that was pre kids
I need something a little easier to do with the children as making my own meals for the week is fine.. but I also need to feed the husband and children too so I have to cook daily as they wont eat anything pre- made.. and there is hardly any left overs, at least it means less to snack on I guess..

Any advice or ideas would be appreciated - I want to loose 100 pounds all up and my short term goal would be 21 pounds by Easter - so about 3 months at most or 7 pounds a month - and yes I have plenty to loose as I weigh about 324 pounds - or 147 kg so I don't think I am being unrealistic, or I wonder is my goal not high enough?

Welcome!!

I agree with Mozzy, use myfitnesspal.com. It's so easy and has thousands and thousands of foods in it. I love it. And nothing touches my lips before it gets logged (so trust me, it's THAT fast and easy!). The app. will also help you set calorie counts to meet your goal. And you can get to the app. on your phone or on your regular computer/laptop, it's really convenient.

I think your goal of 21lbs by Easter is an excellent goal. Just making some simple changes to your diet will help you immensely in the beginning. Once I found out how many calories were in my drinks for the day, that was the first thing I changed! No way I am giving up my calories for a glass of Coke, a glass of grape juice, or an alcoholic drink! My calories are for FOOD only now lol.

I slowly cut out junk food, replacing it with healthier foods. Then I started adding in exercise, seriously only doing 10 minutes a day as I was so wiped out. Slowly I kept adding and now do between 45mins to an hour a day. Don't try to make all of your changes at once as it can be very overwhelming and we don't want that!

The best thing I did was join 3FC. I come here when I am bored and wanting to eat. I read the success stories and mini goals, I join in challenges and read the daily threads. Now, that doesn't mean that I don't eat, it just means that maybe I don't have to stuff my face every single time I get the urge!

I am happy you joined us here, I hope you love it as much as we all do!

thank you fo your advise and welcomes and best wisher - I think I will leave the calorie counts for now and go with the change the drinks and cut the junk food out of the diet then look at it a little later down the track - so far so good since joining lost about 5 pounds - I do around an hours exercise pretty much most days in a week and have done since before joining so that is not a big issue for me - adding in weight training might be an option though

Hi! I am also new here, as this is my very first post! I am in N.Z too! I'm really hoping that this site will help me be more accountable with what I am eating/drinking. My goals this week is to have water as my only drink, and to watch portion sizes. First day going good so far!
