Default New, and need to lose 100 lbs

Hey everyone

I've been wanting to lose weight for a long time now. The success stories on here are incredible. I have a deadline of Oct. 2013. I want to be around 100 pounds lighter by then. I have heard people that have lost that amount in that same time. Does anyone have any advice?

I joined a gym not too long ago... but there are so many good looking people there... I feel intimidated. I'm shy anyway. Does anyone know how to get over this? starting weight is approx 250 btw. and 23 years old.

Welcome and good luck!

I don't want to be a downer or negative, but are you sure that 100 lbs in 9.5 months is a realistic weight loss? That's well more than 2 lbs/week, which is a hard rate to maintain for a long period and even harder to maintain as a person's weight decreases.

That doesn't mean you can't lose a big chunk by then, though--and those of us here will be rooting for you all the way!

Just wanted to wish you good luck! I have a significant amount to lose too and I am trying to just do 20 lbs at a time so it doesn't seem too overwhelming!

I've lost over 100. You can do it but set a realistic goal. October is VERY AGGRESSIVE. Pick a healthy plan that you can stick with for the rest of your life. Read the success stories here....but also read the stories from people who didn't choose a plan they couldn't keep going.

Few words of advice:

1) Exercise is really important. Try something you'll enjoy.

2) Eat frequently through out the day. Smaller meals and planned snacks will help keep you from giving in and going wild.

3) PLAN, PLAN, PLAN...Make sure you have a plan for what you're going to eat during the day. No plan for me usually means a trip to McD's.

Cheering you on to goal!

Hi and welcome, good luck on your journey. I too do not mean to be a downer but 100 in 9 months isn't an easy goal to make...maybe you should re-think it.

I'm aiming for 100 by 2014 and even if I don't make it by then I'll be proud of what I did accomplish.

You can do it, but I think your goal should be more realistic. 100 lbs in 9 months is drastic. What are you planning go eat?
