New...A little overwhelmed

  • Ok...here goes.
Somehow I've lived through the whole internet without participating in a forum like this. I'm still not sure how to get the most out of this...but an introduction seemed like a good start.

I'm probably pretty average here. Just turned 39. Need to lose 30/40 lbs (I'm more concerned with inches). normal to maybe slightly chubby kid who always thought she was fatter than she really was. Started the yo-yoing in my early 20s. Have cycled through a variety of eating/exercise plans ranging from rational and healthy to borderline disordered. A couple of years ago said "bleep" the whole business...read a lot of intuitive eating and fat acceptance books and blogs (which I still think are great. But...)....had to buy a lot of bigger and bigger clothes.

Recently my perspective has changed. I've been thinking of weight like my eczema or asthma. It's hard and it's not fair, but eczema is just something I'll have to manage my whole life. And I do a really good job of it - mostly. Thinking of weight like that suddenly made it seem possible, and take a lot of the cultural/emotional weirdness off of it. So - I'm here. I'm just counting calories. But hoping for some help sticking with it.
