Default Oh look, another newbie!

Alrighty, here goes. My name's Samantha but feel free to just call me Harlot
I recently turned 29. I've had issues with my weight since I was around 12 years old. At the time I was a dancer and into cheerleading so obviously body image was a big thing. I can remember writing diary entries about how much I hated how I looked, and it makes me sad since at the time I was maybe 5'1" and weighed around 120 pounds. In high school I was around 150 and thought I was such an elephant...now I would give anything to be that number!

Last year I joined a gym and started to focus more on what I ate. I dropped about 15 pounds right off the start but was forced to give up the gym due to some physical issues. I'm only now getting back to the point where I can start trying to work out again and thankfully I was able to keep most of the 15 pounds off. Not all of it, but some and it's the little things right?

This year I got into modeling. I always wanted to try it but was never comfortable with my body to actually do it. Finally I just decided you know what, I'm pretty and so what if I'm not some tiny little thing, I'm going to do it. And it's been fun! Of course I would love to be smaller, so I am going to continue to try and lose weight. I want to look good but I also want to FEEL good, both physically and emotionally. I want to be healthy just as much as I want to look into the mirror and like what I see.

Hoping that this forum will help me get where I want to be. My long term goal is to be around 150 pounds, but for short term I just really, really want to be under 200. I'm hoping to take advantage of some Christmas sales by purchasing a juicer, start getting more fruits and veggies into me. I don't eat red meat or pork, and very little seafood. I know fish is great for you but it's just not something I like. My biggest hurdle is cutting out processed junk, and my 1-a-day glass of Cherry Coke Zero. I don't drink coffee so that's my version of it and it's just so bad for you, I need to get rid of it. I'm trying my hand at brewing my own citrus green tea rather than buying the gallons of Lipton diet green tea, and again, it's kind of a challenge. The pre-made diet one is just so good but the homemade is much better for me. It's all about adjustments, that's what I keep telling myself haha

So that's that. Thanks for reading and I hope everyone reaches their goals, both big or small.

I know how you feel about past weights. I used to think I was hideous at 175. What I would give to be THAT again!!

Good luck and welcome, even though I just joined myself.

Hi Harlot,

I am Lisa Joshua. I understand how you feel because I was in your shoes but, guess what, I manage to come out of the fear and start looking at weight loss in another prospect. You can check out my blog weight-lossgossips.com[/url] for more details on my experience. I understand that you do not consume red meat but you can take protein supplements as a substitute. Do carry weights and not fear them as they will help you burn fats. To be honest, I am new to blogging therefore, I have only two post which includes details on why we gain weight after our high school.

Heya Harlot, love the nickname !
Your story sounds great, a little tragic of course with the weight gain but all in all it has it's up and it's downs. Meaning you can always get back up because you've done it before. You sound very well motivated, and like you said its all about adjustments. Gotta tell myself that too.. heh.
Brewing you own tea sounds awesome, you should share!!

Goodluck love! I myself have to lose 50+ pounds *fingers crossed*

Thank you so much everyone!

I've been told that I look at this from a good perspective. When I was going to the gym last year I was able to have a free session with a trainer and during that session I learned how to do the most effective situps I've ever done in my life. No joke, my stomach muscles were sore for about three days and after a few weeks I saw a significant change in my waist. But anyways, the trainer I was working with said that I had a really positive outlook on things and praised me for my eating habits. As I mentioned before I have struggled for many years and for awhile I wasn't doing things the right way. I fell into a really bad pattern of restriction and even purging. Part of my struggle now is to not fall back into such habits so I make it a point to get three square meals a day [breakfast, lunch and dinner] and two snacks in between so basically I'm eating five small meals a day. What my challenges are is making sure those meals are all healthy, not just grabbing junk. I work retail so it can be a little tough especially when my store has a market area. The temptation can be strong...I intend to be strongER.

Thanks for the suggestion on protein supplements. I've actually never thought of that lol. My green tea experiment didn't work out so well my first try. It was pretty disgusting so I need to work on that one.

Hi everyone, I decided to join this forum because I enjoy talking to people who are going through the same weightloss stuggles as I am. I go to meetings every week as well but I need all the help I can get. lol I've been overweight my whole life but I've always been very active. I trained a lot for kayaking for years and I was always involved in various sports. I was always big but I was really muscular though. I was about 170 then but in excellent shape. After I finished paddling, I gradually stopped doing activities and not eating great, so of course I started gaining weight. I started Weight Watchers a couple years ago and lost 20lbs but then went back to my bad habbits and gained back 25. It's been off and on since then. I've stayed very active for the last couple years, so that's good I guess. I also eat pretty well except for way too many sweets, which is kind of hindering my weight loss. I also tend to binge eat when I'm stressed or feeling low, which is a huge problem at the moment. I guess that's what I need support with. I was doing really well back in the spring. I didn't lose much weight, but I was working out and running a lot, so I think I was losing fat/gaining muscle. I signed up for a 5km and did my best time (27mins). Normally I'd be upset with not gaining weight after working so hard but I was fine with it as I felt great and figured I was doing something right. Then I started slacking a bit again. I haven't lost much since then but only gained 1.5lbs over months, so I guess that's a good thing. Anyway, if you made it through all that, thanks for reading. I look forward to the support, learning new things and meeting new people. Don't mind the spelling/grammar. It's late here and I'm not paying a lot of attention to it at the moment. lol

Welcome! I'm sorta new myself. Well re-new. Just starting to get more involved. I have also just turned 29. I have 10 pounds to lose. About 12 times. XD Sounds easier that way. Have a look around and go to the goal picture forum for some amazing inspiration.
