Smile Newbie in Need of Encouragement and Support

Hi all,

I'm Daisy from Wales, I'm starting my diet today hopefully go better and last longer than the last one. I'm currently 238lbs - 17stone. Heaviest I've ever been, I'm 21 and I already struggle just walking around town.

Also my best friend has just got engaged, so a year from now I'll be bridesmaid and I don't want to be the fat bridesmaid again like I was at my brother's wedding.

My goal is to lose 12lbs in the next 6 weeks. Which is completely do-able.

At the end of December I'm moving in with my partner so hopefully if I'm almost a stone lighter, I might brave starting to go running with him.

So that's me, hello all you lovely people,

Daisy

Welcome, Daisy! Lovely name!! You'll definitely find the encouragement and support you need here! I joined this site my first week of my latest weightloss venture, and this is easily the longest I've ever stuck with it. 12lbs. in 6 weeks is definitely doable--do you have a plan in place, food and exercise wise? Also, check out the challenges threads. We have several challenges going on with predetermined weigh-ins and it's definitely held me accountable. Having to check in and weigh in regularly has helped me stay on track and temper some of my binging Good luck and I hope to see you around the threads!

I'm a new bees also. I started IP a few weeks ago, I'm starting my 4th week today. The food is really good, but I'm gagging on all of the veggies. FOUR CUPS A DAY I haven't lost the weight I thought I would, maybe its the veggie thing. Any suggestions on how I can get these things down?I would appreciate the help.

I'm loving this forum already, everyone is so nice

Lakilaulea: Thanks! As it happens no I don't really have a diet plan or anything like that, I was looking online to see if there was a sensible diet I haven't tried yet when I came across this website. Until I decide on one specifically I'll probably just calorie count. I was looking at doing Slimming World - joining a class for the extra support - but when i checked the fees online I realised I've got no chance of affording it.

Exercise is pretty much out of the question at the moment, walking is already quite a struggle but I will work up to exercise. Luckily I have a very supportive partner who would also like to lose a few lbs and is happy to exercise with me

Lulu64 - I don't have any experience with IP, but there's an IP section in this forum that has a bunch of really knowledgeable folks currently on the program. Veggies is definitely something I had to get used to myself, so I feel your pain LOL

Daisy - You know, this is the first time I'm actually not following any diet. I've tried soooo many in the past, and for me personally, none of them worked (obviously). I just decided one day to make better choices food-wise, and surprisingly, it's actually been working LOL I eat a ton more fresh fruits and veggies than I used to and although I don't count calories, I make a conscious effort to make healthy choices. My biggest thing is the exercise. It's definitely a great thing to have a workout partner. And even if you can only walk for now, that's perfectly fine. Do you have a pedometer by chance? If not, you can find them really cheap in drugstores or online. I highly recommend them. That way, you can really keep track of your progress instead of guessing. Maybe set mini-goals like 'complete XX amount of steps per day' or 'walk XX miles a week.' You'll build up speed and stamina in no time!

Rhonda Marie - I found this website that has two avatars side by side, and you can plug in your current and goal weight and it displays them side by side. I had to copy/save them separately and merge them together with PowerPoint. It's cool 'cause you can even tailor it to look like you----my before avatar is my spitting image, except my thighs rub a lot more than it suggests LOL http://www.modelmydiet.com/women.html

Lakilaulea: I know what you mean, I seem to have tried all the diets under the sun, few working and even when they did I never stuck to them.
I am just trying to make healthier choices - trying to always bring lunch from home so I don't end up going for a pasty or huge filled baguette. I love cooking and vegetables luckily so eating healthily isn't too much of a problem, its the extras - cakes, chocolate, crisps etc. Also portion sizes. I hate to admit it but I love to eat until I want to throw up, so those are the two things I'm going to concentrate on - no bingeing and less sugary things.

Me and my partner went on a detox a few weeks back - nothing too drastic - it cut out caffeine, sugar, dairy, wheat and meat. So it was supposed to be a week of fish, veggies, seeds, nuts, olive oil, fruit etc etc. No limit to how much you could eat, I quite enjoyed it at first but then the lack of caffeine kicked my boyfriend for six, and although he's normally the most lovely person you can imagine, he became grumpy and extremely snappy (not to mention the headaches etc) and for me lack of sugar made me immensely depressed and weepy - until he couldn't take me crying any longer and bought me coffee and chocolate - horrible day. BUT. It didn't half show me how much I rely on my sugar hits. So cutting out sugar will be a definite goal for me, not completely, coffee without sugar - yuk - but a lot less sugar.

Pedometer! I am loving that idea, I'll have to have a look on my way back from work tonight

Oh my gosh... The thing that hurt the worst giving up was CAKE. I loooooves me some cake!! Moist yellow cake with fudge frosting? YES PLEASE!! I love chocolate and ice cream and candies.... But cake.... I knew I had a serious problem when I was literally eating A WHOLE CAKE every other day. I had to give up my vices one by one... Cake the first week, then candy, then ice cream, then soda.... I haven't completely given up chocolate, though. I actually have some candy that's been sitting in my cupboard for almost a month. Before, that candy wouldn't have lasted 30 minutes in my house. I keep it there so when I feel a craving coming on, I'll have a piece. Just enough to satisfy the craving. I think one thing that caused me to fail so much before is that I'd get these cravings and then just let them fester for days before I lost total control and devoured an entire pint of ice cream in one sitting or whatever. And I'm totally with you about the eating until I feel sick thing. I hated that feeling, but I needed that to know I was done eating. I'm so glad I don't feel like I need to feel bloated anymore There's a subforum here about self control and binging. I like to go there every now and again 'cause it makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one going through it. You should check them out sometime. Awesome inspiring girls there. Good luck with the walking! See?? This journey is getting fun already!!

OMG Cake! I do love my cake! That's what I'm craving big time right now but I've nothing in the house thank goodness, otherwise I'd be stuffing my face.

I've already checked out the binging section, this whole forum looks great

Hi Daisy. Welcome to the club. I just joined the website about a month ago and have found it helpful. A lot of encouraging people here and a lot of success stories, which helps inspire me to stay on track so hopefully one day I will have a huge success story when I finally reach my goal weight.

I completely understand about being the fat bridesmaid. It's no fun at all.

Good luck with your weight loss!
