Depressed and overweight!

  • Hi there! I have been looking up a few things lately, and I keep coming upon this site, so I figured I would join. I have gained 40 lbs. in the last year, and it is very disheartening. I am on medications for bipolar and major depression and I think these have contributed to the weight gain. I won't lie though, I do eat junk, and I have a hard time making myself exercise. And thus the circle goes on. I look forward to 'talking' to you guys, getting some advice, and definitely some support.
  • Hi Magnolia39! to 3FC, and best of luck on your journey
  • Well start slow by cutting out the junk... the best way I've found to easily cut out junk food is to have good food ready BEFORE you are hungry.

I try to keep boiled eggs on hand all the time.... if I feel like snacking... they are right there.
  • Welcome! You're taking a big step in the right direction and that's awesome for you!! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your posts as you work towards your goals!
  • I feel your pain. I often self-soothe with food. About a year ago, I started taking anti-depressants and started gaining weight as a side effect. I talked to my DR and they adjusted my dosage and added a drug that helped with self control. Perhaps if you bring up the issues with your doctor, they can help mitigate the weight-gaining side effects Good luck and know that you aren't alone!
  • Welcome. Congrats on getting started!
  • I gained a lot of weight when I started medication for bipolar disorder and major depression as well, I gained about 50 pounds and then another 20, just because I couldn't do anything about it! Well, just wanna wish you luck and say that you aren't alone!
