Wink Hello! My name is Fibrfighter and I am overweight.

I am trying to lose 49 pounds. My greatest challenge (besides chocolate and cheese!) is trying to lose weight without heavy exercise. I have fibromyalgia and I can do light exercise and stretches, but I can not maintain a heavy exercise routine. I am concentrating on good food choices and portion control using the Weight Watchers older point system (Turn Around). I was very successful with WW in 2001, but eventually I stopped paying attention. Then a back injury reduced my activity followed by my fibromyalgia problems in 2006. I spend a great deal of time on the computer, so it seemed to be a great place to get support.

Hi Fibrofighter,

I also have fibro and an assortment of other health issues. I've had to make changes very slowly, because any drastic change to activity level or diet (or sleep, or stress, or weather - or just about any change at all) tends to trigger a pain or brainfog flare.

It's hard to stay motivated when you don't see results and just have to trust that they are or will be happening. To keep going, I've had to take weight loss out of the "goal" category, and put it into the "reward" catagory. Weight loss isn't my goal, it's a happy side effect of accomplishing my "real" goals of moving more and eating more volume (high fiber/water foods) while eating fewer calories.

You may enjoy the fibromyalgia thread or some of the other Dieting with Obstacles threads.

welcome, glad to have you join us. I suggest you look for a Challenge or Support group to join; small check-in groups make it easier to connect, get involved, and be accountable. We have groups centering around specific diets, themes, or age groups, find one that inspires you and just post to join!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I did check out the dieting with obstacles area and did a post.

kaplods - I like the way you think. "Reward" is more motivating than "Goal"!

Welcome!
I used WW in the past and had moderate success. I was thinking of re-joining again as it seems the most logical to me.

Can you do yoga or pilates, modified for what you can do? Also would AquaFit be ok for you? I know a few people who have had great success with AquaFit as it has a low impact thanks to the water.
