New and I accidently lost 12 pounds
Hi all,
I've been lurking here for a few days and finally registered to join in the "fun." First I want to say how impressed I am with so many people's success.....and I consider ANY loss a success, not just those determined and awesome souls who have met their goal. All of you here who are pressing onward in this battle are my inspiration!! Seeing those tickers is impressive and amazing! And the encouragement is awesome.
My story: I was thin and fit (126 lbs) until I hit 35 and had my first child. It helped that I had an active job. That was 16 years ago. I hovered at 205 for a few years, then discovered a great diet called "divorce and stress" that helped me lose a bit, and with some effort, got down to 158 and stayed there for a few years. Then with a new marriage, eating out a lot (late in the evening) and a new very sedentary job, I have been at 235 to 238 for years! I've wanted to lose so badly, but haven't had the willpower.
On New Years Eve, I ended up in the hospital and the doctors suspicion was gallstones. After an ultrasound, I found out my gallbladder was full of gallstones. I've been a VERY unhealthy vegetarian for years......lots of cheese, cookies, chips, cake, any high fat junk food you can think of. That gallstone attack was so painful, I resolved NOT to have another one, and I don't really want to have my gallbladder out if I can prevent it. So.....I did a juice cleanse diet, then went on a high fiber, low fat diet. In 3 1/2 weeks, I lost 10 pounds without even trying. I got excited about that and last week joined Curves and started on CHIP (Coronary Heart Improvement Program). I have high cholesterol from my crappy high fat diet, but the program I just started encourages excercise, lots of water and fiber, and low fat and sugar, so the cholestrol should drop too. I've lost a couple more pounds and am now motivated to stay with it until I reach my goal of around 138, maybe less.
So although I was initially motivated by health, it has turned into a weight loss plan that I'm very excited about. I'm staying with the CHIP plan because it is a complete health plan/lifestyle and I'm getting lots of good new recipes from them. Last night, I ordered a Gazelle Edge, and last week I bought Nordic walking poles. I'm ready to do it! In one month I went from 238 to 226 without exercise, so I'm anxious to see what the addition of rotating Curves, Gazelle, and Nordic walking can do.
I've experienced many of the same problems you all have with being too big for airline, roller coaster or concert hall seats, and this is the year it will change! I'm embarrassed to see old friends or work acquaintances that I knew 17+ years ago. And, in 17 months, my oldest graduates from high school, and I plan to be thin for that event. As well as enjoy my first summer in the sun and water being thin again in 2013.
Thank you, everyone, for your examples, motivation, honesty, humor, persistance and determination! So happy to have found this site!
