Unhappy My weight is killing me

Hi All,

I have found this forum in a desperate attempt to get my weight under control before it kills me.

I am now at over 280 pounds and I don't know how to stop. I have developed type 2 diabeties, am now on heart medication, have plantar fascitis and am starting to have problems with my joints.

I am at my wits end. I lose a few pounds and then regain it plus more. I can't seem to exercise without debilitating pain, and I just want to eat all the time.

Where to go from here. I need to stop. What is wrong with me that I just can't stop? I have fought drug addiction and won, I have fought depression and win every day. Why can't I beat this?

First of all you have made the right choice by coming here. There are lots of like minded people who have a wealth of advice and experience to offer you.
I was 298lbs when I started my journey. I like you was addicted to food, and was terribly frightened of my weight killing me.It was what actually spurred me into action and made me DO THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL ! I researched and made a plan that I thought would suit me, my life style and taste. I took each ten pounds as a goal, and I just kept going. Even when it was tough I didn't give up. I wanted it to be the last time I would lose weight. It took me 14 months, and a lot of sweat and tears, but I am so glad I did it.
You will be too. Just put one foot in front of the other and try. When the going gets tough, come here and talk about your feelings. Weight loss is very much to do with conquering mental obstacles, and having the strength to achieve.
I wish you every success and know, with the right mindset that it can be done

, Paperdolleze. There is lots of information and support here so please hang around and post often.

Yes, you can beat this "addiction" too. There are many, many chicks in here who have done so and will share their knowledge.

Paperdoll, you must do this . your health is at stake. Your doctor can give you a diet for diabetics. As for exercise do what you can, try walking a little at a time and increase as you go along. Look under Dieting With Obstacles and click on Diabetes Support, you might get some good information there. Good luck.

Hi, I'm new here too. I hope you find the support to help you reach your goals. Just wanted to give u my .02 cents. I was 220 lbs, 5'3" developed PF after taking a jazzercise class in 1999. Three years later, while working at a job that required a lot of standing I was diagnosed with arthritis in both knees. I didn't have much treatment for these conditions other than ice compresses, lidoderm patches and being sedentary. But in 2007, at the age of 47, I joined a gym and learned that my body was stronger than I thought. I learned that exercise helped me strengthen the muscles around my knees so I could do a Step class, squats, lunges, burpees and now I do a light jog in my neighborhood for up to 40 minutes. Also learned many things I can't do--like jump rope or jumping jacks. I've tried many times but always get injured.

I found wearing good sneakers was key to exercising with PF. I buy Brooks and recently started buying Skechers (Shape UPs for walking and Tone ups for exercise) which have been a Godsend. However, I started a second job that again requires standing and the PF was very painful. My heel got very tender and sore--even though I was allowed to wear my Skechers. I had to do cold water soaks after every shift. A co-worker mentioned she "cured" her PF with a night splint/brace used to hold her foot in a flexed position during sleep. I ordered one and after the first night, I was able to get out of bed with no tenderness/pain. After a few nights of wearing the split, I was able to do an 8 hour standing shift with very little pain. So my long story is really short... It is possible to exercise even with barriers, just gotta try different exercises and find the ones that work for ones body.

P.S. I had to give up my gym memberships so now I'm trying to figure out exercises I can do from home. HTH, Take good care.
